Pens -- JAN 2020

Schultz will not play tonight, while Simon is in......and it's Jarry in the cage (with Elliott expected for the Cryers).

Guess they finally decided there's no reason to force Schultzie into the lineup with a week+ off after tonight.

Any word on who is in the cage tonight? Not for us, I dont care who it is there but them....I'm assuming Hart is still injured and hopefully we see Mr. Elliott...Edit, I now see CM's post.

Hey t, just saw your guy Dallandrea picked up last week's 1st Star in the OHL:.....while your other guy (Chisholm from the Petes) got 2nd star.

AND on Saturday night our Petes beat Dellandrea's Firebirds 2 donut! Happy for both these lads however...
Not sure if you saw or not but we traded Niagara for their Captain WJHC game winning goal scorer Thomas. They are serious about winning the O this year. Ottawa will be the hurdle. Going Feb 1st vs those sad sack DeGenerates.

Gord Miller is on NBCSN ? How'd you guys get so lucky down there?!? He has done TSN and WJHC broadcasts for years up here...Him and Cuthbert ...quit stealing our guys! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Of course Gord has probably done it for years on NBC and I am under a Canuck rock...

Not sure why this Mleszko bitch is rooting so blatantly for the Cryers; but I'm personally getting sick of her emphasizing everything the Pens are doing wrong and (most) everything the Cryers are doing right. But she's a NY/MSG babe, and shouldn't be rooting so much for the Cryers.

She must hate the Pens more than I realize.....

When she said in the first 'Malkin tried to get the puck away from THE FLYER' ? Well ...she was dead to me at that point...terrible.

And the iron...

Do these Cryer clowns remind you of anything last year? The bloody Isles in a lot of ways...and here I was trying to forget that debacle...

Definitely forcing the Pens to skate through their fence.....can't really get much going tonight. Plus, I don't think their energy level is very high tonight.

Get the hell to the beach fast, guys......and don't even start thinking about hockey again until maybe a week from today.

Appears as though most everyone associated with the roster is (quietly) blaming last night's performance on being worn out......while Sully is acting exactly as you'd expect the Head Coach to act.

I begrudgingly give the Cryers credit...they created the wall and our guys attempted to pass through it all night long rather than get dirty. I suppose that is how a tired team might act....

Wanted to ask some of you baseballheads on here your thoughts on Walker finally making it to the HOF? Obviously people up here are ecstatic being only the 2nd Canadian to be inducted...
I could definitely see the Coors field arguments against it but then in listening to Bichette on an interview he made a pretty good point about it being a disadvantage for Rockies hitters on the road as they would hardly ever see a breaking ball, or slider, at home ,that the thin air would allow little movement on the baseball. Then when they went on the road after 10 days or so they'd have to re-adjust which could take awhile.
Anyway, IMO there are not many more complete players over the years. From what I remember his ability to take extra bases was off the charts. Bichette also mentioned he'd never seen a player take 2nd to 3rd while much of the way watching the RF with both eyes. Said he figured it was related to how Larry was also a hockey player when younger. Kinda makes sense to me.
Most of my memories were of him with Montreal as we would often get those games too, and not too many from National League out West.
I suppose lack of postseason success would have been the other knock against him...I liked that he was wearing his stylish Sponge Bob shirt when he got the call too.
Anyway thanks for listening lol. A good link on his metrics worked out by some stat geeks.

Short answer to your question is that I myself would NOT have viewed him as an HOF-quality player, though I'm hardly an authority on his career. As much as anything, I recall him as a more-or-less perennial All-Star; and I guess that DOES count for something.

My personal opinion aside, I essentially don't care if he did or didn't make it.

Next question...who will waste their time watching this All-Star game? Or perhaps some of you enjoy it...
I will say I enjoy the skills competition quite a bit, and will be watching that on Friday eve. In saying that I am hopeful they don't go all Jagr vet overboard like they did previous , which made me about barf...
The game itself is useless imo, bunch of guys skating around playing a bad version of pond hockey ,even with the recent changes. The only one worse would be the Pro Bowl imo. They need to either drop it (they won't) or make it worthwhile in some capacity. I know they are trying but not trying hard enough....

If I'm watching the tube.....and my wife didn't want to watch anything else....I'll likely turn/leave it on IF the Metro is playing. If they're not involved, probably not (or I'll turn it off).

Seems to me the buildup to the game is really the bigger story anymore. I'm not sure there's THAT much widespread interest in the Skills; though I admit I'd turn that on IF the same two conditions I mention above were in place.

Game itself, IMO, is marginally better now that they've gone to 3 on 3.....but it's really not compelling enough for me to make a special point to watch. Doesn't help that top players (like 8) continue to invent reasons not to show up......like Sid has done so many years previously.

Oh ya...8...did they refute him wearing his straw hat and shades again? No matter who says he's changed over the years (bullshit obviously imo), it's always about him, or Russia or some crap like that, yet wow imagine that, it's still all about him. Stay at home and play video games Alex I really don't care....

I see Matthews dropped this year......trying to figure out who in STL gives a shit he's showing up for everything so long as it doesn't include putting on skates.....and how long will it be before McJesus figures he's too good for the game.

I'd say you have to win a Conn Smythe first; but I honestly don't recall Matthews having won one yet.

He seems to have been able to play and score right up until their last game and his bs appearance without suiting up to allow him to play right away after all-star without suspension, then what gives? Oh ya 'work on a wrist issue'... lol my ass!

Guess Toronto had to sew-up new fangled kid-gloves specifically for the local hero, I guess because the Leaves apparently convinced the League they can't afford to have kid out of the lineup for any reason other than blatant injury.

Meanwhile, like they said on NHLN this afternoon.....and I haven't listened much, because its all-St Louis-all-the-time on there today.......8 would be playing this weekend if the game were in Washington (and the same would likely be true about Matthews if was north of the border).

Watching past highlights of the skills...hardest shot, and I remember it well in game action with both The Craps and The Leaves, Dearborn Michigan's own Al Iafrate. Was that stick wood at 105 mph? If so he would absolutely waste Weber or Chara with the flex on these sticks now...honourable mention Inverness NS Al MacInnis....
One guy I'll be watching in other competitions is Scheifele tonight...he is a talent imo.
