Wanted to ask some of you baseballheads on here your thoughts on Walker finally making it to the HOF? Obviously people up here are ecstatic being only the 2nd Canadian to be inducted...
I could definitely see the Coors field arguments against it but then in listening to Bichette on an interview he made a pretty good point about it being a disadvantage for Rockies hitters on the road as they would hardly ever see a breaking ball, or slider, at home ,that the thin air would allow little movement on the baseball. Then when they went on the road after 10 days or so they'd have to re-adjust which could take awhile.
Anyway, IMO there are not many more complete players over the years. From what I remember his ability to take extra bases was off the charts. Bichette also mentioned he'd never seen a player take 2nd to 3rd while much of the way watching the RF with both eyes. Said he figured it was related to how Larry was also a hockey player when younger. Kinda makes sense to me.
Most of my memories were of him with Montreal as we would often get those games too, and not too many from National League out West.
I suppose lack of postseason success would have been the other knock against him...I liked that he was wearing his stylish Sponge Bob shirt when he got the call too.
Anyway thanks for listening lol. A good link on his metrics worked out by some stat geeks.
