Thank you Neal Brown

he's lucky to have any type of coaching job..that lawsuit at AZ was only dismissed because it wasn't filed within the required time period
It was dismissed from court because it was a very bad attempt to extort money and nothing more. There was no case. Your butthurt for Rich Rod is obvious....

I don't really think about him at all..but my opinion is that he has a better chance of coaching at Marshall than he does at WVU...

Also, Nick Saban is a complete snake..every recruiting class has been either #1 or top 3 for over ten years and he does this

“We can go ahead and say it now. (Zach) Frazier had a heavy, heavy offer from Alabama this offseason, but he decided to stay at West Virginia.”- Tony Caridi

that is a tampering violation..players can't be approached until after they enter the portal..I thought that former CIA employee the NCAA hired was supposed to start enforcing this.it doesn't appear that he's accomplished very much

Let me know when teams actually follow the NCAA rules.

Army, Navy, and Air Force do..that may be it..which begs the question..when are they going to do something?

make the penalty so severe that teams wouldn't dream of doing anything like that...give'em the SMU treatment..not elegible for bowls or league championships for 5 years..reduce scholarships to 60 etc

The silly rule is not allowing a team to be bowl eligible because they moved up from FCS to FBS and no matter the record they have to wait a year.

Personally I think the NCAA is a corrupt organization and needs dismantled. Time to start over with something new. If that's a commissioner of college sports then so be it. But that would take a lot of man power to over see all the college teams.

no kidding..even when they enforce the rules it's a total screw up..according to the NCAA there was no national champion for 2004..when USC was stripped of the title does 13-0 Auburn get to claim it? hell to the no

The NCAA is out of hand for sure. They have been damaging to pretty much all of the sports. I hope someone does something about it.

Are you surprised? At this point, there’s just too much money involved and available. Fairness, if there ever was any, is gone. It’s about winning. Nothing less. Integrity, morals do not matter now. We all need to accept this tough reality.

Gun season starts Monday. Nice try to make excuses though. This is a game that would have sold out pre Brown. It was a perfect afternoon for football!! Gorgeous, chilly but not cold day. This is the best record WVU has had under Brown and there were 20k empty seats at the last home game of the season and a game where it may be the last time people get to see Don Nehlen like that. This should have been a sellout. Not even close. WVU football is becomming irrelevant under Brown. Not even VGABRU could get his realfan self to see Nehlen one last time and support these awesome seniors we have this year. People just dont show up like they used to under Brown.

In the final home game of the 2002 season, the stands were very similar to yesterday with a metric shit ton of empty seats. It was the final home game for WVU's all time leading rusher (record still stands today) Avon Cobourne. It was a beautiful day. We were playing rival Boston College and were having a good season, ending up 9-4. Was Coach Nehlen to blame for the empty seats?
Average home attendance:

1991- 48,669
1992- 49,280
1994- (following an undefeated 1993)- 51,720
2001- 48,323
2002- 52,413
2003- 52,205
2013- 52,910
2015- 54,826
2023- 51,156

I was unaware Brown has been with the program since 1991. This years attendance is within hundreds of a year following an undefeated season. This has much less to do with Brown and more about our "fans."

Mountaineer Field has occasionally hosted larger crowds than its listed capacity of 60,000, the current attendance record was set on November 20, 1993 when 70,222 fans packed the stadium to watch the #9 ranked Mountaineers defeat #4 Miami.

Attendance has been dropping in all sports across the nation. Job market in WV as well as population is on a downward trend. These also speak to why the crowds have been smaller and ticket sales have been less. Why would anyone buy season tickets or one game ticket when they can sit on their couch or recliner and watch the game from the warmth of their own home. Putting every game on TV has taken a lot away from college attendance.

It matters who you play at home.

By Bob Hertzel:
Taken overall, it was hardly disastrous for West Virginia, ranking 33rd in the nation in 5-year average attendance of 44,032, a figure drastically lowered by the COVID year of 2020, but that affected all schools.

WVU over the last five years has played at just 73.4% of its stadium capacity. Of the 14 teams that will make up the “new Big 12” competing this year before Texas and Oklahoma leave for the SEC, that is lower than any schools other than Kansas and Houston.

The Mountaineers have gone from an average of 58,158 five years ago in 2018 to 55,907 to the COVID year of 6,653 per game to 51,584 in 2021 and just 47,658 last year.

The 47,658 is the lowest home attendance other than in the COVID year since 2001 when Rich Rodriguez’s team averaged 48,323 per game.

last season’s largest crowd was 52,188 for the home opener against Kansas. By the time they got to the season’s final game at home against Kansas State the attendance was 37,055.

Since 2002, WVU has drawn at least one crowd of 60,000 every year other than 2013 when the biggest crowd was 58,570 and last year when only 51,288 came to the top game.

Baker warns not to read too much into such numbers but notes they can’t be brushed aside, either.

Mountaineer fans have always been very fickle to say it mildly. Many are fair weather fans only showing up when things are good. If we start winning, more and more will show up. When we are winning and have a team and players getting national attention, even more will show up and claim they are the greatest fans ever and never turn their backs. Just blatant lies. Have many family members and friends that are that way for over 40 years. I give them hell constantly for their actions.

You dont sound like a very fun person to be a fan with lol. Every fan base is like that and it will never change. Kleenex.com can help you out....

In 2022, total attendance rose for the third time in the last four years to 37,237,555. Not surprisingly, the top 50 crowds from 2022 were posted exclusively in Big 12, SEC and Big Ten stadiums. Those crowds were isolated to only seven stadiums: Michigan, Penn State, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Texas, LSU and Alabama.

WVU will be 5th out 16 in attendance in the new Big 12

2004 WVU went 8-4. Home games were:
59,100
60,300
56,600
52,900
52,100
58,100
We lost 5000+ or so fans after we lost to VT on the road that year. The last game against a ranked Boston College team. I guess winning matters.

2005
54,600 showed up for Wofford
57,200 for East Carolina
60,193 for VT
59,800 for Louisville
52,800 for Uconn
52,900 for the dreaded Spitt game

Looks to me like when WVU is better and has better coaching they can easily sell 10,000+ more tickets than they do under Brown.

Listening to Nehlen's interview the day before he was honored was an eye opener...he said when offered the WVU job Bo Schembechler told him...don't take it Don, just don't..hang around here for awhile and I'll get you a good job..I don't think you can win there

Well, he definitely proved you can win here. I’m thankful he took the job. He paved the road of success that Rodriguez was able to work from.

20 years ago is your comparison. Why didn't you go back to 1980 as well.

What was the cost of season tickets and one ticket game price? In 2007 - 2009 the cost was...
By Mike Casazza

2016
Season ticket prices are the same for a third straight season - $325 (for seven games) with five $45 tickets and two $50 tickets and an average price of $46.43.

Two years ago, the average ticket was $46.67, but WVU only had six home games and a season ticket cost $280.

In addition to the price, a seat in every color-coded section other than green requires a gift to the Mountaineer Athletic Club - $375 for red, $200 for gold and $100 for orange.

If people want to stay in their 2008 seats, if they want to add to what they've ordered in the past, they have to make a gift.

Wells knows people aren't entirely happy with the idea or the choice of words.

In 2023 Blue Zone. Annual MAC Gift per seat minimum: $500. Season Ticket Cost: $365 ; Red Zone. Annual MAC Gift per seat minimum: $425 Season

The most recent expansion actually reduced the seating capacity by 3,500

Renovated 2004, 2007, 2016
Expanded 1985, 1986

Looks like Don Nehlen dominates the attendance...

3rd best and your assessment of fans have never been so off. Could be because you're too young to understand the fight before 2001.
