Pens Offseason/ rest of NHL playoffs

I just saw the schedule for the Finals. They don't start until next Monday. Why the hell do they wait so long to start them? If the Blues hold on to this lead, it will be 6 days between games.

they have been starting the finals after memorial day for awhile now, these two series just ended early.

plus the league wants to give their teams a chance to catch their breath before the most import series of their lives. and to heal up as well. no one wants to watch two mash units go at each other in the finals. I'm ok with the delay.

It seems they do it every game. I heard it first last week. Last night again the crowd was really into it. I don't know the reason for it, but I enjoy it.

I think they started it as a distraction to intense playoff hockey and you know how hockey people can be when they are winning... tradition started.

this is the one that is perplexing to me... wtf does this have to do with the blues???
I looked it up last week and it said something about the Sharks were playing in Philadelphia and some of their players were in a bar and people in the bar were yelling, "Play Gloria!" and they took that back to San Jose and it took off from there. Same concept as you said about Country Roads I suppose. Hopefully, my buddy "T" will be subjected to 4 renditions of that Laura Branigan classic!

as for this "team victory song" crap, it must just be western conference teams and this stuff. I remember a couple from the blackhawks runs... heck one was a remake of rap songs mixed together. thank god the pens didn't do this but If they did I'm sure it would be a styx song that was used...

I don't know I was wondering that myself. I heard them sing it the last game as well.
Okay, here's the deal: They were playing that song at a game in February and the PA system inadvertently cut off prematurely or somehow the song quit playing prematurely. Anyway the crowd was apparently really into it and continued singing the song even after play resumed. Thus, they decided to try it again the next game and it has just continued since. I love it!

Guys....

I watched some of the third...Matt Murray lights out good with the shutout apparently , McCann with the 3rd goal to seal the deal! Whats not to love lol. Of course @Irwineer2 will say he doesn't care but I know he's at least giving me the one finger salute (you know you are) which is satisfying :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

Oh, and bit of a scare with #30 in the third. Stretched out on a great save, and a bit of a head knock while at it. I pictured both a groin and concussion for the lad in one shot there...he bounced back up and so far as I know is ok....phew.

The avs 2018 home finale was against the Blues. The winner got the final playoff spot in the west that year. I was at the game and the blues put up one of the most gutless performances I had seen for a team with a playoff spot on the line. Over the summer they added Bozak and Oreilly and they had picked up maroon earlier in 2018. I like the moves they made by adding grit. When they started the season slow they got rid of HC Mike Yeo. That was probably the best move they made all year. He is one of the most worthless coachs I have ever seen. Berube added the toughness which fit their lineup. Under Mike Yeo they were soft every NHL team should black list him and send him to coach pee wees where he belongs.
I've been SCREAMING for Maroon in Black and Gold for about 3 years...not now though, the guy is gonna command big $$$ this offseason unless he takes the hometown discount. Guy is skilled, BIG, and not afraid to throw his weight around out there. A power forward that is highly effective... this guy was around 15 years ago in his prime, what does he have 35 goals? I find it quite satisfying that the Cryers drafted him and....nope! Lol.

I've been in STL since Monday night; and needless to say, it's an excited town. Everyone at my Company's HQ wore Blues colors yesterday; better than all the friggin' Cardinals red they spend so much time wearing the rest of the year.

Pretty full of themselves right now, and I'm not sure it isn't deserved. I wouldn't find it that hard to root against them if they weren't playing the B's......but since they are, I'll have no trouble whatsoever pulling for them.

I wanted the Preds to get him. He may not be the most skilled guy but he is the type of player that helps you win in the playoffs.

Um....YES DO THIS DEAL! I like Zucker, fairly consistent numbers and a decent two way player. 5.5 per for a consistent 20 g guy is ok with me. The slug Rask only has 2 years left at 4 mil I believe, and could be buried somewhere would think. Phil you like Minnesota, its nice and close to home. Great hot dogs and pizza up there I hear as well.

moving johnson would be a mistake. the teams needs real dmen, not more little guys.

It's a dump pure and simple that gets you a bit of O back...do you overvalue him like some others do? He checks outta dodge every 3-4 years...get him outta here and send the message. Jack is a servicable D man, no all star. There are others....

I want phil gone, but I don't like the return here. nor do i want to move johnson.

Everything I'm reading says Phat doesn't have Minnesota on his list of acceptable trade-to teams; so this entire discussion may be moot.

Now, something in the back of my mind.....though I know don't claim to know anything about the internals......tells me this is an issue which they can manage with him. Although to me, this much media coverage of a possible deal says it's really not likely to come about after all; just too much feedback from the local peanut galleries to make the GM's comfortable (in a situation where they usually work behind closed doors).

Meanwhile, this entire discussion for both teams still appears to be an addition-by-subtraction proposition.....which mandate the cap hits largely to offset.......so it's hard for me to imagine either side being all that pleased with the on-ice result of a Kessel/JJ for Zucker/Rask deal.

If you haven't been keeping up with the latest, it appears GMJR is looking to move Phat mostly for reasons of insurrection......he was said to have been going late at the casino the night before the Pens got eliminated, and the story out of Pens camp is that HCMS was evidently insane with resulting anger.

I'm deducing all the trade talk means Phat feels as though HE'S being made the personal scapegoat for the early elimination. For that reason, he supposedly has NO intention of making it easy for the Pens to deal him by going to Minnesota, and EVERY intention to force them to abide 100% to the terms of his modified NTC clause if they want bad enough to be rid of him.

What makes this a particularly interesting turn of events is he strikes me as the type who'd have NO problem whatever showing up next season with nobody on the team talking to him. Obviously, that's not going to happen; but by the time this all done, the Zucker/Rask deal may end up looking like a jackpot by comparison to the fleecing the Pens end up taking just to flush him (and which could easily include salary holdback).

One more thing; I'm getting the fairly distinct impression now that HCMS' status with Management is pretty strong/established, and he's NOT going to get sacrificed to patch up things with Phat....or Geno.....or Letang. This also leads me to believe, from a distance, that Sid is among Sully's more vocal supporters.

According to TSN Phil Is # 1 on the trade Block
https://www.tsn.ca/tsn-hockey-s-trade-bait-list-1.203546

From The Athletic, Michael Russo's Minneapolis-based perspective on Phat to the Wild:

Whatever your opinion is of Phil Kessel and whether or not it makes sense for the Wild to swap Jason Zucker for him in a trade package, it’s not a good sign that Kessel, at least as of now, is unwilling to waive his no-trade clause to come to the Wild and a market he’s so familiar with.

This has been reported by The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and confirmed by more than a half-dozen sources to The AthleticMinnesota and Pittsburgh.

According to several people close to Kessel, the veteran goal scorer has a couple of concerns about playing for the Wild, but the biggest by far is the fact he has examined the Wild’s recently blown-up roster and simply doesn’t think the team is close to contending for a Stanley Cup. Not even a recent telephone conversation with Fenton was able to change his mind, sources say.

Rask stops everything in the playoffs up to now, and then gives up one in on the Blues' first scoring chance of the series. Hoping this is a trend....

FWIW, Down Goes Brown rates the Pens playoff loss 3rd most disappointing this year behind #2 Tampa (not #1 because they're still pretty young) and #1 San Jose (based how close they came to making the Finals, how they went down against STL). I myself think he's doing Tampa a favor not putting them at a clear-cut #1; and frankly, I think the Pens are #2 over San Jose.

#3: Pittsburgh Penguins

It’s one thing to lose. Fifteen out of 16 playoff teams do it eventually every season, and the Penguins weren’t exactly heavy favorites to win it all. But to win a game? Yeah, most of us were expecting that.

And if we’re being honest, most of us were expecting them to win a round. Even without home ice, the Penguins felt like a solid pick to knock off the Islanders. After all, most of these guys have multiple Cup rings, and we’ve always been told that knowing how to win is what matters in the playoffs. Instead, the Penguins were swept aside by a team that never beats anybody in April.

Needless to say, it’s all Phil Kessel’s fault. But those four games were a severe wakeup call for an aging team that still thought it had a few runs left in it. Ah well. At least they’re still alive for

the worse part about watching the bruins for me is all the high numbers their players wear. smh...

Nice performance by the Blues last night.....obviously, they proved to the B's they're not going to turtle. I particularly loved the fact they kept on slamming the goal even though the stripes kept penalizing them......and they didn't care. Pretty ballsy for Berube to decide he isn't going to allow stripes dictate how he's coaching his team.

Oughta' be a fun Saturday night in STL; though, circumstances like that are where the Broons are renown for coming up with their best efforts.

Anyone watching this NBA final? The local boys here ( ya the city is off the charts electric) , vs the juggernauts? I watch it in passing, NBA bores me quite a bit, zero flow to the game...truthfully I hope the Raptors lose. They are owned by MLSE who imo the Leaves never properly addressed the 70's sex scandal raping of many young boys...ya look that $hit up, if you wanna get angry, and that total douchebag Drake acting the part of the IDIOT. GO WARRIORS....edit in saying that I do like Leonard quite a bit. He wants ZERO to do with Drake and simply goes out to do his job.

Isn't his list 8 teams by his contract parameters? PHUCK HIM! And PHUCK JR too...Philly trash.
He can submit the 8 teams he would be willing to go too. The process would be easy to manipulate on his part. He could list Boston and Toronto which are 2 teams that wouldn't want him. He could list teams up against the cap that can't afford him or teams that don't need what he brings. Ultimately I think he will get traded the reality will set in that he's no longer wanted.

Don't worry about the Raptors Toronto win or lose the day after the NBA finals end the raptors will be on the back page of the sports section in Toronto and the Mitch Marner contract discussions will be back on the front page.

https://triblive.com/sports/jeremy-...il-kessel-will-accept-trade-to-only-one-team/

in case any one needed to be told this...

the coyotes have nothing I'm interested in on their roster, perhaps the pens can pick up some picks in this deal and move forward in free agency.

The only way, I think, a deal with ARI can be made is if the Pens are willing to take back draft choices in exchange.....and I'm not at all convinced that's something Rutherford is willing to do.

Regardless.....and recognizing the Pens don't have much leverage......my own thoughts are something along the lines of Kessel and the #21 pick in exchange for the Yotes #1 & #2 (picks #14 & #45).

I'm not sure why rutherford wouldn't want some picks back in this situation other than he doesn't like whats available in the free agent market or thinks he will die before the picks make an impact at the nhl level.

My bet says they skimp out and we dont get #45. Regardless we take it all day and every day I even hold a million bucks to make it happen. He is DONE here over and out, his 3x past dictates it. Goodbye and thanks for the memories. You helped immensely and no longer do. All good.
