Heard today on NHLN that Sergei Gonchar reportedly hit for $1 million on the (I think) Powerball lottery.

Glad to see you back Toronto. I was up in the Yukon territory in mid June. Went to Mt Logan, White Horse. Pretty country up that way but you end up being the main course. F'n mosquitos I tell you.
Awesome and thanks...has been on my list last few years and gotta do it soon! Mt. Logan eh? Cool....I bet June it was daylight close to 24 hrs! This year has been MURDER for skeeters around here too...freakin welts all over my body...

Good to have you back, t.......you've been missed !!!!

Meanwhile, nice to see Guerin get his shot; if Fenton was as big a f***stick as he's been described in the media, then BG is as good a choice to smooth things over as they could probably find.

Hey t, be sure give us your local take on this dumbass Mitch Marner saga......which is almost (but not quite) as stoopid as last off-season's Nylander cluster f***.

Meanwhile, he can't possibly be serious about going to Switzerland......can he ?? :flushed:

I spent time in the Yukon territory and Alaska from June 13th to July 1st. It never got dark in the areas I was in. The sun did set for 2 hours but we always stayed in civil twlight. You would never have known it had set. On june 21st I was north of the artic circle and saw the sun circle the sky. It was cool the sun started setting and just stoped when it hit the horizon. About and hour later you could see it rising again. Denali and Logan are worth it. The only issues up in that neck of the woods is services are limited. Roads are a bit shoddy as well and then the skitters attack in numbers. Besides that its nice country up that way I enjoyed it.

Oh It's pure gold for this guy lol...the local faithful have gone from hope, to anger with the young man, to despair, to many now CLAIMING they could care less. Lol ya right!
This kid has been doing it since junior days with Daddy Marner at the helm pulling the strings. If you thought the Lindros fam was whacked , these ones give em a run for the money.
Daddy is effectively his agent, and is described as cantankerous at best. He wants 11.5 mil over a shorter term 5 years so he can cash in sooner down the road. Problem (no problem of mine) is the Leaves have the Matthews contract expiring then as well. Thus they offered him in the range of 8 years.
First off this wee little fella is a bloody winger! Who in their right mind pays that kinda cake for a winger of little experience? Who did jack squat when it mattered in the playoffs? Secondly we are talking about weasel Harry Potter as GM here. The locals all view him as some magician...lol really? You pointed to Nylander and that is a prime example of his 'prowess ' no matter what he/Leaves/Marner does its an entire cluster****, which is awesome IMO. If they have learned their lesson (doubtful) the Leaves stand pat...my bet says little Mitch does go to Zurich, and we see the Nylander saga all over again, till the Leaves cave and either capitulate or trade him as they are middling in the standings come Jan/Feb...GOOD TIMES! [cheers]

For all the Marner discussion on NHLN Radio this summer, I don't recall hearing his Dad was the problem......though I admittedly found it easy to tune out most anytime their talk turned to Marner. But that makes sense, given the fact he's seems (from a distance) to be largely viewed as the obedient GTA kid who needs to play his whole career at home......and he responds by proving to be almost as intractable as they come.

Speaking of parents, I have to admit it surprising that Troy Crosby.....who (along with Trina) has always been pretty visible publicly around his son (though maybe less so now that the Pens aren't winning Cups anymore)......never was more involved in Sid's past contract negotiations. Of course, it seems like the team was pretty proactive with Sid in terms of his two major contracts; and unlike the Marners, maybe Troy and Trina simply liked Pat Brisson and never felt they could do/add anything PB couldn't do.

Additionally, the summer of 2019 is obviously a far different environment that it was in (I think) 2013 when Sid signed his current deal. Speaking of Sid, I don't think it's commonly known that.....while his cap number actually remained steady (versus his previous deal) at $8.7 million when he signed this 12 year contract.....it was structured as follows:
  • 2013/14 -- $12 million
  • 2014/15 -- $12 million
  • 2015/16 -- $12 million
  • 2016/17 -- $10.9 million
  • 2017/18 -- $10.9 million
  • 2018/19 -- $10.0 million
  • 2019/20 -- $9.0 million
  • 2020/21 -- $9.6 million
  • 2021/22 -- $9.0 million
  • 2022/23 -- $3.0 million
  • 2023/24 -- $3.0 million
  • 2024/25 -- $3.0 million
  • 2025/26 -- UFA

Brief update on a couple of the goings on in this neck of the woods this summer fellas...

My buddy at work spent the day golfing and drinking with Sully at a course down the road from here (where was my invite lol)...said he was really approachable , did not talk hockey but would engage that way if asked no problem and was a total laugh riot to hang with over MANY brews. The Kessel scenario was broached and all Sully would say is , PK was NOT a big dressing room kinda guy, which over time took its toll on the chemistry...

Also our Newfoudland Dog rescue here in Ontario has a new volunteer family. Christina and Matt Murray! When I saw the group welcome/ intro email I bout shit myself ...I told the admins I would do my level best to avoid being fanboy lol...
To be honest this gives us a huge jump in exposure which is awesome. She jumped right in...and has actually been pretty busy in helping with all the various tasks associated with volunteering. Hopefully I'll get to link up with them in the future on a dog transport or something, although I would think that won't be till next spring with training camp imminent.

That's all for now...drop the puck!

what a bunch of garbage.

https://triblive.com/sports/penguin...s-letang-remain-among-games-elite-defensemen/

The last time the Pittsburgh Penguins gathered in their locker room at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry, defenseman Kris Letang supplied the fireworks.

In the wake of a couple of high-profile mistakes that cost his team goals in a first-round playoff loss to the New York Islanders a few days earlier, Letang emphatically bristled at the idea that he needed to do some soul searching.

“I don’t think the (answer) is to change my whole game,” Letang said. “I am not going to (allow) three plays in my whole year (change) the type of game I play, you know?”

So is that good news or bad news for the Penguins?

Looking at the big picture, it’s very good.

Letang is coming off one of the finest seasons in his 13-year NHL career. His 16 goals tied a career high. His 56 points were the second-best total of his career. Most impressively, he finished as a plus-13 despite being on the ice for 11 shorthanded goals against and nine empty-net goals the Penguins allowed.

If Letang turns in the exact same regular season performance that he did a year ago, the Penguins will take that and smile all the way to the playoffs.

The Penguins reportedly explored the idea of trading Letang in what would have been a seismic roster shake-up in the offseason. They didn’t move him, of course, perhaps discovering a truth that the numbers from last season illustrate pretty well.

Letang is an indispensible part of the team’s attack. When he was on the ice at five on five, the Penguins outscored their opponents, 78-49. When he wasn’t, they outscored foes only 104-101.

Where would they be if he fundamentally changed his game?

THE QUESTION

Where will Letang finish in the Norris Trophy voting?

MULTIPLE CHOICE

A. Top five

Letang has the kind of profile that attracts Norris voters. First, he has eye-catching offensive numbers. Last year, he finished fifth among NHL defensemen in goals and eighth in points. Second, he has name value. Letang has been a key cog for a championship-level team for more than a decade. Finally, there’s a good chance he’ll be on the ice for considerably more goals for than goals against, which is, after all, the name of the game.

B. Top 10

Whether it’s because he missed some games to injury or was overshadowed by other candidates, Letang has only finished in the top five in Norris voting twice in his career. He’s finished between sixth and ninth four times, including a sixth-place showing last year. It’s not reasonable to ask Letang to have a better year at age 32 than he did at age 31, and status quo should get him in the back end of the top 10.

C. Outside the top 10

The discussion about Letang changing his game can easily be dismissed as talk-radio fodder that isn’t an actual concern in the real world. Letang’s injury history, on the other hand, is something the Penguins can legitimately worry about. He’s got a surgically repaired neck and a history of concussions. He plays an aggressive style, sticking his nose into physical situations on a regular basis. He was limited to 65 games last season. It’s hard for him to keep his games-played total high enough to receive many awards votes.

THE PREDICTION

B. Top 10

Letang is a multi-faceted player. Yes, in an effort to make plays, he probably makes more mistakes with the puck than the average defender. Yes, he’s prone to injuries at this stage in his career. Most importantly, he’s a dynamic skater and puck mover who drives his team’s offensive attack as well as any defenseman in the league. Add it up and top 10 sounds about right.

Have you ever heard of this person? She makes some predictions some which I hate to say I would'nt be all that surprised if she was right.

No...and her first el predicto has the hackles on back of neck engaged! Lol

Oddly though I find her a bit hot...not sure why....keeping the booze away from her would be a must imo. Could end up extremely annoying after a bottle or two of that vino...

This Kahun kid....has me intrigued...in looking at the stats first full season there is significant promise there. With his speed are we looking at a younger Hags with some good hands? @WVRON I know you and I both liked the jam that Hags brought in his year one and two, it was his stone hands that had me face palming...what is you guys take? Being out west last year has little sight/seen info on him for me. Maybe @ColoradoMountaineer has seen him a bit more as well....

If you are referring to the guy from Chicago then i think he is promsing. He is a 2 way center with smarts. I think there is upside there. He will be detailed in the defensive end something the pens need.

She stated that the preds would'nt make the playoffs and I hate to say I would'nt be surprised if she is right. She stated that the Avs would have the best record in the west. As much as I hate the Avs they have arguably the best 1st line in hockey a solid 4th line and made some off season additions that I think will improve them. Im not sure they will have the best record in the west But i would'nt bet against it either. The pens prediction is interesting I would'nt bet against Crosby and company but the last 2 playoffs the D has been shoddy. I am wondering if the Pens and Caps performance in last years playoffs are a signal of a changing of the guard in the East.

Shit.......nothing worse in the universe than dealing with someone on the phone who (for all intents and purposes) doesn't give two shits about you personally OR your problem of THEIR doing.

And that's just it...I was willing to let it slide last year but honestly AGAIN? When are we going to attend a game together anyway...Pens or Eers...it needs to happen. So long as I am clear of PPG lol. I should look and see at the schedule vs those Columbus asshats...

Maybe the Blojax.......Pens will continue to be a comparatively tough ticket in Columbus, but still possible if they're down this year as much as folks believe (though i don't think I agree). Meanwhile, I haven't been in Nationwide since their inaugural season; saw the Jax play (I think) the Ray Bourque Avalanche.
