Non-Pens question as we approach tonight's game versus the Cryers; a game for which I have absolutely no clue what the Guins will bring to the rink. BTW, no word yet from the morning skate about Geno or Schultz (or Murray, for that matter). I did read earlier this morning that Bjugstad was thought to be OK.

Anyway, late last week, I heard......not sure if it was on NHLN Radio or TV......someone say that Tom Wilson was (or is) 2019's version of Eric Lindros. Now I don't even think Craps fans think he's anywhere near that talented (nor even remotely in the same universe as a finisher); but I'm honestly not sure if it's all that absurd a comparison in terms of basic style....what do you guys think ???

they don't play the same position and I think wilson has a better chin... unless I missed where he was knocked out by a 5 foot 11 russian.

After the morning skate:
  • Murray in goal tonight versus Carter Hart
  • 1st PP unit will be Sid, Geno (expected to play), Horndog, Letang, and Pettersson
  • Kessel moved to the 2nd PP unit with Bjugstad, Jake, Riikola, and Maatta
  • Kessel will play on Geno's left side on the #2 line with Bjugstad
  • Third line is McCann between Simon and Pearson
  • Horndog is down to the 4th line with Cullen and G Wilson
  • No Schultize or ZAR tonight (both of whom have been practicing)
  • Stadium Series game back in Philly is in 12 days

I get the feeling that these guys worry way too much about who they are playing with and what pp unit they are on.

I bet kessel responds and plays even shittier than lately..

Pffft...who the hell said that lol? As you say not the finish in the least...Lindros did play BIG at start of career and in junior (that sum bitch destroyed my Petes, although he was fun to watch at times), but by NO means was he the outright dirtbag , headhunter Wilson is...insert Irwin's Wilson defense in 3, 2.....:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

raffl deserved it. he committed 3 uncalled penalties on malkin before geno beat him in the head with his stick.

geno will get 2 or 3 games. if that.

You know, arguing this particular issue reminds me of arguments between jackboots and snowflakes.

Raffi was being, well, Raffi......and legendary thin-skin Geno decides to respond in the manner he responded.....and it becomes the biggest story of the week in the NHL. From my POV, the League will do what the League does (if anything), and the entire situation simply goes down as more grist for the Cryers/Pens mill. Geno will now get the Crosby-treatment by Philly fans for the rest of his career, and in rerturn, likely turns into their biggest nightmare.

But it never ceases to amaze me how Penguins.....whether it's Geno whirly-birding Raffi, or Coke Nose kneeing Rat Marchand in the head.......find ways to turn League scum into sympathetic characters.

I don't think you need to label guys scum because they play physically or for a different team.

Interesting that Geno (on suspension) actually had a better game tonight than Kessel, who was almost amazingly invisible (15:37 TOI, -1, 1 shot).

That glove save on the McJesus' PS might have been MM's best ever.........
Been outta the loop for a few days...but did get home in time for the third Wed night after my Pete's gave up the game late in the Shwa with a dumbass penalty. That save? Evidently MM does or has found a glove? ...In saying that, just wtf happened this aft? 5 goals on 19 shots or somethin? Obviously this was a rather bad outing...the MM haters will be back in full swing today Lol, with a bit of shine off the recent rose....
Anyone watch it? Afternoon hockey drives me bonkers. It somehow just doesn't match with my psyche (I believe this is a Canuck thing really), and I have shit to do man!

@COOL MAN a few things...firstly this!
https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/juniors/ohl-announces-sanctions-niagara-icedogs/sn-amp/
Seems the league is finally coming down hard on these front runners...although Windsor was fined a larger amount a couple years back. League admin now just needs to take a trip down London way and hang around, outside the Bud Ice Gardens...won't be too hard for them to find enough circumstantial evidence on those cheaters...

At the Gens/Pete's on a snowy night Friday and it might a been 3/4 full tops. Capacity is 5500 and they announce 4900. I looked around and laughed real hard. Apparently they count like Pitt does for football.
Anyway...most fans were respectful, however I had to turn to the fella behind me and retort to 'this is their lughead always looking for a fight ' with 'YOU mean to say he wants to fight based on the fact that your dirtballs cheap shot with the best of em over the years?' With a wink...he took it well...
The Pete's have gotten MUCH BIGGER this year in order to combat the DeGen's ...it works to an extent but they MUST learn to play smarter. Too many bad penalties.
I was especially impressed however with finally seeing this kid here live.

He is BIG , imposing and skilled...prototypical power forward, and at 16 yo not afraid to go after the older 20 year olds physically...I want him as a Pen in the future big-time...
Also speedy little Nick Robertson outta Michigan (17 yo draft eligible this year)...keeping my eye on him. He is dynamite imo.

Didn't see ANY of yesterday's game, but noticed a couple interesting tidbits in the box score:

--Geno (2/1) and Kessel (0/2) combine for 5 points, and finish the game at a combined -4

--Matt Cullen batted 1.000 on faceoffs (11-0)
