Pens -- NOV 2019

I've been watching Pens hockey since roughly 1972, and have seen them dress better teams than this one. But I don't think I've EVER seen them generate two comebacks in a row like I saw Monday night and tonight.

Was thinking similar....I started calling for a wholesale change in net to fire up just bout anything as I / we all did Monday...yet this time he stuck with him, good choice there it seems, ebbs and flows. The fire started and it caught on again...how frustrating is this team to watch yet again....the talent and the work ethic can hopefully be the right mix in these dog days coming up....we know the kids are hungry to play based on performance the two or three weeks prior...the vets decided to show, albeit at the last possible frame.....vexing.

Lots of talk in the post game of Sully moving Rusty to the second line with McCann and Geno, while Yuk was up with Sid and Jake. Obviously moving Rusty paid game-winning dividends, but even Yuk seemed more in the middle of the action, though he's just not cashing in.

One thing I myself thought; to my eye, Yuk looks/looked slow out there......and I'm now worried this uber up-tempo style does NOT work to his benefit. Maybe someone can tell me if he came to Pittsburgh with the reputation as a lackluster skater.

Meanwhile, I'm sort-of hoping he's just dealing with the same kind of transition issues as Kahun; and that once he finally gets off the snide, we'll see a MUCH better player.

Sully now calling Letang week-to-week

ADDITIONAL: Marino skated with Dumo in the top pairing last night, and I believe he did it again in practice this morning......no reason for now to believe he's going to be moved from that slot for the time being. I'm thinking he gets defensive cover from Dumo that he might otherwise not receive from others, and perhaps we'll start seeing him take some occasional chances with the puck.

He is slow...and imo has been for awhile. This guy's best days (briefly) were with Radulov on his wing as a Centre. Habs kept flip flopping him back to the wing because of lacklustre effort defensively. I think he also had a knee injury in there somewhere which has likely compounded his foot speed issues.
Now in saying that do I want him at C? HELL NO...in fact I truthfully think this entire experiment will end in a year or so. He was simply a means to an end with PK imo, and to my eyes there are several other wingers behind him on depth chart that will bring more jam consistently. It's early in his tenure with the Pens but the guy looks totally lost out there imo, which is about what I expected...

So, what's going to happen tonight versus the Black Hawks.......will they allow the Hawks to skate rings around them like they've done the last 3 seasons ??? Hope the Guins come out skating tonight......

they have seemed to own the pens in the sid/geno vs toews/kane era.

Friggin Malkin.....just throw it up the slot and create a scoring chance for the Hawks.

DK's post-game "assessment" on Sid's injury.......which they believe to be the result of a shot he took off the ankle (I myself thought he might have strained a groin when he fell backward awkwardly on the ice). While he was said to have left the locker room last night with a "slight" limp, he was not wearing any kind of boot or brace.

Regardless, something tells me it wouldn't be shocking if he might at least be held out of Tuesday's game at the NYR.

Sid isn't traveling to NY......and nobody is saying anything about him beyond tomorrow. No secret hockey teams are tight-lipped about injuries, but it seems everyone is really treating this one with kid gloves. Meanwhile, McCann moves up to center the top line; DK reporting tomorrow's lineup might look as follows......
  • McCann-Jake-Yuk
  • Geno- Simon-Rusty
  • Tricky-Kahun-Lafferty
  • Teddy-ZAR-Turbo
  • Dumo-Marino
  • Schultzie-Pettersson
  • JJ-Riikola
Note nobody is touching that 4th line. Currently, the top PP unit is Schulzie-Jake-Geno-Tricky-Yuk, and the 2nd unit is Pettersson-Riikola-McCann-Kahun-Simon :weary:

85 years old; comments Saturday night aside.....and he didn't all of a sudden become a jackass for the first time at 800PM EST Saturday night......it was (IMO) time for him to go a long time ago. Meanwhile, I'm trying to decide (under the circumstances) how big a day this is in Canada; initially, I'm thinking it's actually pretty darnned big.

Tomorrow, Grapes' supporters start coming out of the woodwork; that'll be interesting to watch. Looking forward to seeing how widespread the inevitable boycott of HNIC will be (among viewers who the advertisers probably don't give a shit about anyway).

Meanwhile, I'm wondering if Trump.....who tweets on all kinds of things he doesn't understand......will do so in favor of Grapes (even though he almost assuredly hasn't the foggiest clue who he is).

liberal bullsh*t.

fvcking shame
No...really it isn't. The decidedly liberal broadcast network he worked for generations as an employee gave him plenty of rope over the years. This time he went too far and hung himself with it...now whether or not it's cause he's halfway senile may be some of the story as well. I tuned that loon out 15 years ago anyway...

when the leader of canada can wear black face and these same rules don't apply to him, this is liberal bs.

I don't even see what cherry did that was so wrong, he was encouraging everyone to support the troops.

The people who tune in to coachs corner want to hear Hockey talk. He didn't use the right forum for the discussion.

I used to like grapes back in the 90's but his act got old. They need to replace him with someone who's going to talk Hockey and not the political BS. If I want to hear that crap I can tune into a cable news channel which I never do.
