Pens March.

No doubt 81 is gone this summer. Our only hope this post season, assuming we actually get there, is Murray gets hot as does our PP. Short of that we may not make it out of the first round.

these guys think they can just flip a switch and play playoff hockey... you got to be committed to it.

I did think that 3rd period last night was very well played and reminiscent of our play during the last two cup runs. But we have to be able to protect leads and close out games.

you can't expect to win when you play like that for one period.

The first of the very recent Cups I honestly thought in and around Feb /March the team could do something special. In fact many around here laughed at my suggesting that notion. The 2nd one shocked me quite a bit with the depleted D and other injuries...last year didn't have a very good feeling whatsoever, and they got deservedly beaten in the 2nd round. This year? I honestly think with the re-tooling the parts are there but they are WAY to inconsistent in pretty much every facet of the game, the mix doesn't seem right to me. This team has to score period to win, the goalkeeping and D are adequate , but not when it comes to 2-1 hockey games...gonna lose the majority of those ones. Not much time left to get hot, and playing some pretty good opposition down the stretch here...I guess we'll see...

Not to worry Ron...MM will now get ALL the blame. Although he had held an in all game. And his ****in mates did NOTHING!!!

Two entirely different issues, t.......no issue griping about their inability to score; one only has to look at the score sheet to see that. But the opposition doesn't even need to get off adecent.....let alone good......SOG to beat Murray in the last 2 minutes anymore. The guy is just absolutely out to lunch anymore with the horn (either regulation or OT) approaching.

Dude that was a seeing eye goal. It went through the smallest of space from a bad angle. Not gonna fault Murr on that one. Yea the two against Philly and against Carolina are his but not this one imo.

Dude, if ANY goaltender isn't held responsible for hugging the go******d post at rug cutting time......and especially in a situation like that where the shooter wasn't even trying to score (but rather was hoping for some kind of freak rebound)......then it's obvious we're just not watching the same game.

THIS is a good and healthy debate imo....look, It's no secret around here that I love the guy on the whole half based on the fact that he's my Thunder Bay Newf boy, and half the fact that on the whole he is a BIG body in net who is usually positionally sound with the best of em, but for that weak glove (although I think he has been working there and it has improved a bit), nobody can deny there is a Flower factor here dividing the fan base even still...I agree CM he has to lock it down late, it is a problem that way, although tonight on SO he got it done. From my eyes it is the in game he made numerous stellar saves to hang us in at 1 donut...for A LONG TIME. I am an apologist I admit to an extent all the same....he is my local boy, very charitable in his endeavours, particularly with the dogs. I have lots of time for him...also his saves for local kids in need campaign. Tonight a lot of kids got a really good lift up from #30.

Murray looking like Jacob DeGrom, playing out of his mind but receiving zero goal support. So he has to play perfect every night and get a shutout every game. If he doesn't, it's his fault despite offense being completely AWOL. Hate to break it to people but expecting a goalie to get a shutout every game in order for team to win is absurd in any year but especially this year when scoring is at an all-time high. Well except the Penguins, they couldn't score in a whore house. With or without Geno, scoring 1-2 goals per game is unacceptable for this team.

They are not scoring whatsoever and must in order to go a round or two....it's bizarre....on a side note mr. Netflix...Dirty John? I heard it was amazing but thought it just good imo. Worth watching but not the hype. Gimmie my next show of the recents?

Never seen Dirty John. Last Netflix show I watched was Secret City season 2 which came out few weeks ago. Not as good as 1st season but still decent. Australian espionage show. Anna Torv is lead actress, she was also in the "Fringe" if you ever seen that.

The Umbrella Academy was pretty cool, came out last month. It's worth watching. Season 2 of the OA comes out tonight at 3am. Been ****ing forever since 1st season. I may have to watch 1st season again just to remember what happened. No idea why it took long. Usually seasons are delayed on Netflix but not that long. If I'm not mistaken 1st season came out early December 2016. Here we are almost late March 2019 before 2nd season comes out.

Noted ...and noted...thank you sir...looking up both tomorrow.

What were your thoughts on the game? I mean, we are all adults here and often banter about, arguing /agreeing on so many factors, yet respecting each other....there is no judgement here whatsoever...we are legit on the same team in this circumstance...it would be nice to hear a voice rather than the links, we all know what happened ....just my opinion and maybe some will disagree. Such is life.

By my count 7 late goals allowed in final 3:05 of his last 13 games. Three times this week. At least 4 of those were incredibly week. Loving his play for 56 minutes but this shit must stop.

Somebody has to step up and score. The pens have allowed 2.0 regulation GPG against in last 13. That’s pretty damn stout. It isn’t as if they aren’t getting plenty of grade A chances. They are. Kessel no even strength goals in 24 now. Horney and Bjugstad not scoring much. 4th line no goals in 20 games. Simon 1 in 27. Rust 1 in 15. Cullen showed asgainst the Canes that his hands are shot. MCCann none in last 5 with some great chances. 81 just sucks right now and why he is on the 1st pp unit and taking SO tries is beyond my coaching level I suppose. As Phil Bourque said last night, you can’t miss the net when you have prime chances. Way too much of that.

I agree that he should have obviously been hugging the post but I’m not going to blast the guy for giving that one up when he made three or four really tough stops. I’ll put the fault for the blown lead on the lack of PP goals and the lack of scoring from our stars. Did Sid even take a shot last night? Still nothing from Horny or Phil although I thought Horny played a very solid game last night. Point is we need to score more to prevent these one goal leads late. I hope Murr keeps playing like he is and he’s keeping us in every game.

No shots for Sid. Can't understand why he didn't get the secondary assist on the Rust goal. He passed the puck to Letang who got the only assist.

Listen, I'm honestly not trying to underestimate in any way the overall quality of play MM is currently delivering.......and he's clearly giving them chances to win, even with this silly current scoring drought. But (IMO) these recent late GA's are absolute backbreakers, especially since essentially none of them have been the result of what we'd consider great chances/shots.

Regardless, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize this team is going nowhere without MM playing his absolute best; and again, on balance, he's doing that. As for the GF drought, everyone is (or should be) frustrated they're making stiffs like Pete Mrazek look like all-worlders; unfortunately, this is hardly the first time this team has gone through stretches like this. And like MM's late leakage problems, it obviously couldn't come at a worse time.

Meanwhile.....speaking of Sid.....there's no question he's defended differently when the opposition has Geno to worry about on the next change (and on the PP). But are you at all concerned that his recent lack of production might be because he's just flat running out of gas ?? I mean, he's been largely carrying this team since the New Year, and he's not a kid (no pun intended) anymore.

I'm really worried he just doesn't have all that much left in the tank......

I'm not overly worried, I think he picks his spots to step up over the years, trying to conserve that energy in a way? Dunno...what perplexes me over the years is how when Sid is out Geno does actually step it up a bit, but it hasn't really been the same when It's 180 degrees the other way? Maybe I am making a mountain out of a mole hill that way not sure...
Oh...and 'silly is being kind in describing this current goal drought.....my chosen adjective is MADDENING lol.

Despite all our concerns and worries with a win tonight the Pens will be one point out of first place. And we all know that if the Pens are on their game there’s not a team they couldn’t beat in a seven game series. I’m just hoping we can clinch a spot ASAP and perhaps give Sid a much needed rest as I agree he looks tired and his recent play is showing just that.

Isles are playing the Cryers right now, which means the Division may look very different 24 hours from now.. But the Pens biggest problem......aside finishing with more points.....remains the ROW, where they're currentlly tied with both the Isles and Canes but who both have games in hand (NYI 1 and CAR 2).

For now.....and assuming the Craps recover and win the Metro after all.....the Pens need to finish in a 2-way tie for 2nd, or in 3rd alone.

Couple more things coming into today that I noticed:
  • Khudobin in goal for DAL tonight (and not Ben Bishop)....no word yet on the Pens
  • Big Rig is reportedly a healthy scratch for DAL tonight
  • Pens are 3rd in the League with 11 OT losses this season (WAS has 8, NYI 7, CAR 7, COL 4)
  • Pens are 2-3 in shootouts this season (WAS is 4-1, NYI 4-5, CAR 2-2, COL 1-1)
  • Pens are #1 in the Metro in goal differential at +29 (WAS & NYI both +24, CAR +14, COL +5)

I’m not really concerned with wether we win the division or finish second or even third but more concerned with our first round matchup. Give me the Isles and I’m a happy man.
