Pens -- FEB 2020

Pens defense (Ruhwedel and whoever else) was totally MIA in front of the net on the Hagelin goal......and MAN, do I hate when cement-head 43 is involved in the scoring.

Yeah, THAT was pretty nice......undresses Carlson, then puts it in a spot where there wasn't much room.

Over...the one that got away.... what drives me nuts is the start of that extra attacker, Washington has the puck stranded in deep. Do we go get them??? NO!!! Gsus man

Ok that sucks. I didn’t see anyway GMJR sits idle after three straight losses. We desperately need a solid puck moving D-man and a bottom six forward who can finish. @torontoeers and I have Miles Wood and Erik Gustafsson on our wish list. And please say no to Wayne Simmonds!

I don’t think this loss is by any means on Murr but I hope Jarry gets the next Caps game. I think his puck handling skills will help us get it out a lot faster which could lead to more chances at the other end.

He looked AHL on the Wilson goal
Disagree, he was coming with speed and made the good move. Either way this is a different game if he stops at least one more. I am a bit concerned with the netminding from BOTH our guys over the last few really...if the team doesnt want to play D then they have to pick up the slack. Neither has like they were a few weeks to a month or 2 ago....

You got it bro...fits our needs nicely imo...although it puzzles me why many Hawks fans want Gustafsson gone? His numbers look decent this year and off the charts last year as we discussed...maybe there is something I am missing?

Pens defense isn't exactly a solid rock outfit to begin with; but without Dumoulin and Marino......who had improved to be a solid 2nd pairing guy.....this unit's weaknesses have been WAY magnified.

I'm wondering if Letang is legitimately beginning to wear down physically; doesn't have the old wheels anymore (no scoop), and he's back refusing to shoot the puck. Pettersson maybe had THE worst game of the group today, and neither Ruhwedel (who obviously Isn't part of their top 6) nor JJ were much better.

They need Dumo and Marino back in the absolute WORST way.....

I’m guessing Dumo is a couple weeks away and Marino maybe a week. I think getting a D-man is imperative. I think Gus would be perfect for this team. And if we get a bottom six forward we need one who can not only snipe the puck but isn’t afraid of working for those dirty goals.

I get the impression Hawks fans are praying they might fleece someone for Gustafsson.

With that 60 point season last year.....which I think most feel was an accident......he's probably going find SOMEONE willing to pay him Pettersson-level money ($4 million/season) this summer. And I don't think they can afford another $4 million guy with Keith, Seabrook, and Mattaa all on the roster making that much already.

Dumo and Marino are BOTH on this road trip (as is Tricky Nicky). Nobody is predicting anything in terms of any/all of them getting back on the ice anytime soon, but this would seen to be at least a somewhat positive indicator.

Then again, maybe all three are making the trip simply to get out of the cold for a week.

Dumo just started skating last week so I’d be shocked if he returned this week. Marino wouldn’t surprise me. The sooner the better for both.

I am beginning to wonder on that Pettersson contract a bit...he is by no means horrible but as I say it's his lack of presence with any sort of shot that is glaring to me, and if the others arent gonna let it rip and instead play pass the puck giveaway ...somebody has to shoot it? In saying that....it's likely Marino and Dumo in that department normally...along with Tanger....

what has happened to Schultz? He defines isn’t back to where he was pre-injury

Back to the goalies for a minute....Jarry HAD IT for awhile, Murray HAD IT for awhile...now neither has IT over the last week or 2. One of em better find it again soon or they go nowhere fast no matter how awful things are defensively. Is it this back and forth rotation Sully is utilizing and thus neither of them can get in a groove? Or is it simply the lack of play in front of them magnifying the situation? Concerning....

Kovalchuck to the Craps...interesting...however why am I unconcerned? LA booted his ass for a reason...a short stint in Montreal really tells nothing imo....

From what I can tell, they loved him in Montreal.....not sure exactly why the Craps wanted him; but hey, it's their call. Maybe Kuznetsov needs someone to tuck him in every night now that 8 is focused exclusively on passing guys ahead of him on the GF list.

Bogosian to Tampa......
This one I understand a bit more as a depth move. He's no better than what they currently have imo, however it's probably a smart move if you've got cap space and don't have to give anything up other than cash. Didn't see the terms of the deal...I wonder how much playing time he actually gets down the stretch or in playoffs? I guess that depends on who's injured...

If THIS is where we are goin somebody kidnap GMJR before it's too late! We've got plenty of vets who've won Cups, the LAST thing we need is some senior citizen that needs to slather on a tub of Bengay to hit the ice....gonna blow a gasket if this happens...

Let me also add Granlund and Smith from the Preds to the guys I’d be pleased to get. Not sure if the Preds are selling though. The one guys @torontoeers and I discussed numerous times is Miles Wood from NJ.

I think what GMJR is trying to do is recreate the vet leading the bottom six much like Cullen did for us. Problem is the old guys that are being discussed are running on empty while Cullen was still on his game.

Pageau to the Isles for a 1st, 2nd and a conditional 3rd which will never happen but wow! These prices are high! The Sens now own 9 of the top 90 someodd picks in this years draft???

Marleau for a 3rd? Namestikov went for a 4th! We just got slower and it cost us. This chump was nowhere in last years playoffs...Thanks GMJR you dumbass.F sakes. :chairshot:

I'd heard a couple weeks ago that Marleau could still skate; maybe that's not the case. But what this does clearly prove is that GMJR is not at all happy with his forwards; FYI, PM is 10/10/20 in 58 games this season.

Seems clear he's only in Pittsburgh until they clean out their lockers after this season; whether any pure-rental 40 year old is worth a #3, well.......meanwhile, here's PHN's initial assessment:

What Marleau brings to the Penguins table are speed, versatility, and leadership. His hands may have expired, but his feet have not. The Penguins are currently without third line LW Zach Aston-Reese, who is still listed as week to week. The Penguins could also use an upgrade at the fourth-line center.
