PENS 2021 Season!!

Sorry I missed all that last night........NOT

Wife and I went out for dinner, so I missed most of the first two periods and the beginning of the 3rd.....though I did get home in time for the collapse (so I'll l take the blame). Nothing for me to add that I haven't read earlier; can't say I'm dying to watch these guys on Friday.

Not so good to feel that way after a single game......

Who knows....however to your point of being sellers....
If they fall behind early out of the gate, I would think in this solely divisional play format it will be much harder than usual to make up ground on the leaders. Since in every game points will be awarded to those within the division.... the old saying 'a 4 point game' has real merit imo this year....
I think you just talked yourself into proving its easier than usual.

Already changing the subject for just a second.......gonna take me a little while to get used to the fact that Blojax news is irrelevant to us this season.......but here's the Sportnet piece on JL Dubois.

Sounds like Torts has had his fill of the kid already......not sure I necessarily blame him......but this still to me has all the indications of a kid who, among other things currently in play, just can't stand his coach. Frankly, I don't give a shit; but it will be interesting to see if this kid can replace Laine as the League's biggest soap opera.

Reporters league-wide (or Division-wide, I guess) will be all over Torts on this; wonder how long it'll take him to leave the dais (or else take a swing at one of them).

Come to think of it, I'm not sure I can watch Friday's game.......I've purchased Center Ice the last half dozen or so years, but decided not to do it this year (though I really didn't think about it much until last night). So, unless NHLN (or MSNBC) is picking up the broadcast.....or else I eventually change my mind about CI.......my ability to watch the Pens is cooked.

I didn't seem to have the Center Ice free preview on my cable last night. In doing a little online research, I see reference to a 7 night free preview (JAN 13-19, half the usual first 2 weeks of the season) which my cable didn't appear to be carrying last night. Meanwhile, here are the current Ci costs (cut and pasted from RCN Cable in NY website):

Regular Season:
$99.99 (4 installments of $25.00)
Through February 10, 2021
Price Drop 1:
$79.99 (4 installments of $20.00)
February 11, 2021 - March 9, 2021
Half Season:
$69.99 (4 installments of $17.50)
March 10, 2021 - April 6, 2021
Race to the Stanley Cup:
$34.99 (2 installments of $17.50)
April 7, 2021 - May 8, 2021

I did see Sid's goal on Wednesday night....and agree it was a pretty damned nice play; that is, knocking down the clearing pass out of the air and then backhanding the disc into the goal with one hand. But Kingerski called it an insane play, which I immediately thought to be an over-the-top description. I mean, I'm as much a Sid fan as anyone, but geez.....

It occurs that he referred to it in that manner simply because there was so little else positive to glean from the game. But I've never thought of Kingerski as that much a homer, which is why it seems to have rubbed me the wrong way in some regard. OTOH, maybe I'm just splitting hairs here; and Lord knows, I don't have that many hairs left on my melon to sacrifice.

Anyway, for those of you who saw the goal, would you classify it as an insane play ??

Insane no....one of Sid's top 10? I'd venture to say yes. What I was (once again) impressed with was the hand eye coordination, especially with these bats outta the air at such high speed...I'm not sure I've seen anyone better at it in hockey....ever.
Perhaps most impressive to me is that he can still do it, with the amount of times that brain has been jostled around inside his skull....

Top 10 ?? Well hell, you can't do a whole lot better than that. Considering all the plays Sid has made over the years, I'd think most anything good enough to make his Top 10 would meet most definitions of the word insane as they apply to normal players and fans.

Meanwhile, maybe Sid has just spoiled me more than I realize......and maybe I was just incapable of separating the game result from his raw ability the other night.

Reading Marino is back with Petts for tonight, Ceci is a scratch [banana] , in his place Rhuwedel. Matheson dumped down to 3rd pairing with him. I wholeheartedly support these changes. Let's hope they work....

Didn't take long for the bloom to come off Ceci's rose, eh ??

From the postgame comments I read......and while neither exactly set the world on fire......I got the sincere impression that Matheson (even with the mistakes he committed) was thought to have shown quite a bit more in Game #1 than the almost-nothing the Pens were thought to have gotten from Ceci.

As for the Marino-Pettersson pairing, I do hope Marino doesn't fall all over himself tonight as he did on Wednesday, which led to a GA. Man, when I saw that happen, the first thing that entered my mind was sophomore slump; hardly the ideal reaction for Game 1. Here's hoping it was just a bad step; but I don't immediately remember him wiping out even once like that last season.

As for tonight, I'm hoping that Jarry brings some great saves with him to the rink.......because I think the Pens are going to need them. Oh, and it'd be nice if Geno got on the bus and actually comes to the rink tonight.

Matheson you can tell does have offensive upside, he's a fluid skater, and a decent shot....of course he also has the label coming in of a turnover machine. I'll give him a fair shot early, at least more of one than Ceci.... hopefully he can learn to minimize those mistakes. Jarry needs a bounce back for certain, which he is entirely capable of. .....oh and Geno, ya.........................
I'll also have an eye trained on the Ottawa / Leaves matchup. Definitely pulling for Murr to have a good debut, especially vs those asshats....

Zero improvement from the team that collapsed last year and lost to a 24 seed in the playoffs.

jarry isn't ready for this.

how can this team not have any cap room? sid and geno's contracts are manageable at this point.

oh wait it the 8 million dollar jagoff on d.

Well we did just pick up an 'experiment' on D for what 6 years at 5 mil or so per? He's gonna be your new whipping boy....

Malkin invisible again. Move Rust up to Sid's line?
I would, but....ugh, I dunno...he seems to have the luck with Geno, of course as you mention he is completely invisible, until maybe he takes a bone nosed penalty. I like the fact they are at least in this game for now. The goalie change sent some kind of message.....

Also is this not our home game? Or am I mistaken. One thing I am seeing as well is on TV timeouts Sully is not ensuring our top line is out there after the break? Why?

Time to bench Matheson. Man do we need help on defense. Is Joseph ready?
He cant bench him, cause we have him for 6 years. An albatross.....but hey everyone told us we had to get rid of Horny cause he was declining and had two years left lol.....
I honestly think GMJR figures he has another Shultzie here, he hit the home run once, and thinks he can do it again....I was far more bullish on Shultzie than I am Matheson...

desmith needs to play sunday.

going to be a long year boys. no need to acquire this year, no way this team is close at the deadline.

2021 - GM JR has traded away 1, 3, 4 & 6 round picks. This year’s 1st owed to Wild for Zucker. Needs fired before he unloads 2022 & beyond picks.
