Allow me to open the FWIW File for this week; Jimmy Murphy.....who pens the Boston piece of this National Hockey Now subscription service, for which Kingerski's Pittsburgh Hockey Now is part......is talking about the Pens and Ryan Getzlaf.

Murphy says that Bob Murray has no intention of putting RG on the market unless he request trade.......and, speaking for myself, I've never heard a single word ever to imply that he wants out of his $8 million+/season contract in Anaheim (either before or after it expires this season). From everything I know about RG, he went full-bore California years ago. Besides, he's got a full NMC.

But HNN is claiming that Burkie is likely one of the only guys for which RG might actually consider waiving his NMC; and they're therefore wondering why RG wouldn't consider agreeing to a short-term stint with the Pens......again, playing for the guy with whom he won a Cup.

There's obviously an awful lot of empty space between this discussion.......I don't think it's even fair to call it a "report"......and reality. And nobody is theorizing what the deal geometry would look like, particularly since the Pens don't have much to offer to begin with. And besides, how much could the Ducks actually demand in return for a UFA at RG's salary.

But hey, coming off those two blah losses yesterday, we need something to perk up our attitudes a bit, right ??

At least they took care of business fairly comfortably last night.....and with the weak lineup......now they need to do it again tonight (and how about that for a brilliant assessment)

At least it only took you one paragraph.

That was one wacky game on SAT......guess we could have predicted the meltdown after their performance on Thursday. But considering the sheer number of goals scored by both teams, I was shocked that essentially none (that I can remember, at least) were the result of a major f-up/misplay by either of the goaltenders.

Nobody asked me, but I'm honestly not sure Hexy will do anything at the deadline......insufficient assets to add any kind of difference maker, and I myself don't see the point of adding a near-the-bottom of the roster rental essentially solely to make a move.

That is, unless someone ends up being way more interested in Pettersson than I'd probably be.

dam entertaining game so far.

lets see if the pens can finish this one off.

It’s crazy but the pens scored a quick PP without Crosby on the ice. right now with Sid in full turnover mode, I’m not sure Sully shouldnt try more of that.

Nice win last night......wondering if we might look back on APR 8 as a key night in the playoff race. But tonight's game is almost equally important; Bruins are now advantaged in the standings (only 4 behind with 3 in hand), obviously giving every win increased importance.

Plus they need to start doing something better against NJ.....I think they're 1-1-1 thus far, with the remaining 5 games coming up in the next 2 weeks. Was hoping the Devils might come into tonight bleeding in the aftermath of the big trade, but they whacked the Sabres pretty good in that 3rd period last night.

I feel like they can't be satisifed with less than a sweep this weekend.

Early media thoughts on Carter (and subject to change because none have talked to anyone associated with the team as yet):

Rob Rossi -- McCann 3rd line C with Carter at RW
Josh Yohe -- Carter 3rd line C with Zucker and Rodrigues
Sean Gentille -- McCann 3rd line C with Carter presumably at RW
Dave Molinari -- Blueger at 3rd line C with Carter presumably at RW

Is Carter more like Guerin in 2009 or Iginla in 2013 ??

Gentille -- Guerin, and not close
Rossi -- Guerin
Yohe -- Guerin, but probably not as much as the others

Doesn't sound like too many are fond of the idea of Carter playing center; the theory being that if he can't play C with the Kings (he's played RW all season), he probably can't do it with the Pens (at least full time)l.

I wonder why they are not considering keeping mccann, rodriguez and zucker together?

Reading between the lines, I don't think these scribes are especially enamored with Zucker.....considering him (currently) to be at best a 3rd liner on paper, while McCann is (currently) playing like a strong 2nd liner. But like I said initially, these are nothing more than educated guesses on their part (and I don't think any of them would bet their life on their guesses).

Been listening to NHLN Radio today, and most (though not all) of their talking heads seem surprisingly positive about Carter. Then again, my recollection is they were equally positive about Brassard on trade day, as well.

Just read on Sportsnet.com that Vrana wasn't happy in Washington; according to Steven Whymo, he didn't ask for a trade.....but Brian McLellan was quoted as having said he was "frustrated". From what I can tell, Vrana for Mantha was pretty close to a statistical wash (though they're obviously much different players).

Not sure how Mantha felt in Detroit; he was wrapping up Year 1 of a 4-year deal with the Dead Wings; I assume he's happier now than he was when he went to bed last night. And something tells me that Yzerman is probably happier with the sprinter in his lineup than the tight end.

is carter going to rock 77? been a long time since that number has been in play for the pens
