Pens Season opener and Oct!

Amazing the difference.....at least for THIS team.....between a 2-2-0 record and 1-3-0.
For certain...I was impressed with the jam outta the young guys, Sid lead the way, Murr did enough to hang em in...after Tuesday night? Especially vs a red hot Ducks team. ..... still not sure how to read all of it, however I'm not ready to drive down and jump off the Star City bridge anymore, so that's a plus...get one of these two on Sat /Sun....

On this back to back...think they go with MM Saturday and Jarry on Sunday? Peg seemed to have Murray's number the other night...

Like most (I assume), I figured they'd go with Jarry against the Wild and MM on Sunday......but your point about MM's performance the other night versus the Jets does make one wonder about the goalie batting order. Not sure it really matters that much......

Meanwhile, I finally looked at last night's box score, and noticed Sid played 24:02 and Jake 25:42......those are insane minutes for those two (especially JG). Easy enough to understand why; but those two will be worn out by Thanksgiving if they don't at least get Tricky Nicky (and maybe Rusty) back sooner rather than later.

Even Letang played north of his typical TOI (28:42) which I found interesting, because his mistakes seemed down dramatically last night. Johnson was #6 among D-man in TOI (15:45); even Marino (16:05) and Pettersson (16:08).....who frankly has stunk thus far this season.....outplayed JJ.

But what's worse about Sid and Jake's TOI is they have three upcoming back-to-backs in less than 2 weeks: at MIN/at WPG (this weekend), DAL/VGK (10/18-19), and at FLA/at TBL (10/22-23). And I don't get the impression anyone is expecting Bjugstad back that soon.

That is off the charts for even Sid...speaking of your comment on Pettersson. I'll go on record and I'm sure I did last year that I dont get the fixation with some for this guy? Corsi blah blah etc , he looks to my eyes like a 5 or 6 D man. I've heard a few say he should be on the top pairing? I think that's nutz!

Anyway, 18 coming tomorrow for Thanksgiving which means I'll likely be run ragged during the I St game...when the older folks have departed by 7 thankfully I should have time to kick back and watch the Pens so long as I can keep the bro in laws off the baseball...f it, the outside TV by the fire is MINE. You jokers wanna watch baseball do so inside or at the intermissions lol...

Wild scored two in about 20 seconds on LONG shots essentially through screens......after getting it that close, the energy returned to the home team (and the building) and the Wild actually had a couple good chances right in front of MM to get it within one.

Happily, the Pens learned that Lafferty (unlike so few others on this team) is actually capable of hitting an open net from the defensive zone. I personally was just hoping to get 2 points from this short road trip; so anything they earn tonight in Winnipeg, in my estimation, is gravy (especially if Jarry is in the net).

One thing that helps is the fact the Jets also played yesterday (and had to go to OT to win), so it's not like they were sitting back waiting for the Pens to arrive in town. Meanwhile, I hope they learned a little something about the Jets last week and will be a little more competitive tonight.

Pens have been as resourceful through 2 periods tonight in Winnipeg as I've seen them in quite awhile.......

I realize that Winnipeg has the problems on defense, but I NEVER expected this kind of game in a zillion years.

Tonight was easily THE fastest, hardest working Penguins team I've seen since the last Cup year......borderline amazing turnaround from 10 days ago.

Can I say...there are significantly less penalties on us? Gee I wonder why....#71....
3 pretty good W's ...these guys look like a TEAM.

Good observation about Geno......plus the defense (Letang in particular) also seems to be playing a much simpler, far more straight-forward game and not trying to do too much.

Pens schedule for this week (all home):

  • WED -- COL (undefeated, but beginning a pretty tough 10 day road trip at WAS, at PIT, at FLA, at TBL, at STL, at VGK)
  • FRI -- DAL (1-4-1 coming out of the box, and at BUF and at CBJ before arriving in PIT)
  • SAT -- VGK (like the Pens 4-2-0 in their first 6, at NSH and at OTT before arriving in PIT)

Meanwhile.....just an FYI.......Phat is 0-1-1 (-2) after 4 games in Phoenix, and leads the team with 11 SHG; so at least he's pulling the trigger. Thus far......and it's obviously early.....Yotes still can't score (6 goals in 4 games; 2/3 of those in their win vs VGK).

can't wait for the annual fluery circle jerk on saturday. glad the nhl schedule gets it out of the way before football season ends this year.

fvck him.

Now McCann with an injury as well??? I don't know whether to be overjoyed at another potential farmhand or not, in terms of the effort at least ? Sooner or later this has to catch up to em... wouldn't ya think?

The McCann line was criticized (analytically) after both weekend games......and I mean, the entire line (including Horndog)......which causes me to wonder if McCann might have been playing hurt. Never a good time for half your top forwards to be hurt, especially with arguably the best team in the League right now coming in.

Was thinking tomorrow would tell us how legitimate this team really was/is.....
