Pens -- FEB 2020

Well, quite a few favours done for us around the league yesterday, pretty much every team we'd like to see lose did...hopefully the Pens get the 2 points today and keep chugging along...

Haven't seen much of the telecast thus far......but have they mentioned why Liam, Jones, and Bouch are in Nashville without the Preds being part of today's NBC doubleheader ?? I mean I realize Hockey Day in America applies as much to Nashville as anyplace else in the 50 states, but still......and particularly since all four teams in today's two games are from more serious hockey towns than Nashville can EVER dream to be.

Just saw that the 600pm game tonight on NBCSN, in fact, is the Blues at Nashville.....so never mind.:flushed:

Not sure how much I'd have bet you at noon today that Horndog would never again score an HT.......

Since I said he was slow and useless, he has been productive

Guy is down to the 4th line these days; so it's pretty clear others associated with the team feel the same way you do. And, it equally clear that Sully won't play anyone he doesn't want in the lineup (like, for example, Ryan Reaves) no matter how much GMJR gave up/paid for that individual in trade.

That said, the simple fact of the matter is that Horndog's bread and butter remains something absolutely no one else on the roster can (and will) do. That may not make him worth a fairly inflated $5 million+ for each of the next 3 full seasons; but there are times where I admittedly just love the singular shit this guy does to earn his salary.

Hey, did anyone watch the Stadium Series on Saturday night ?? I admit I didn't even know it was on......but all the horror stories about getting to and from Colorado Springs appear to have totally overshadowed the game.

From what I can tell from the League's response this afternoon, their thoughts (not surprisingly) are that if you had logistics trouble as a ticket holder, tough shit. All I know is the League was NEVER going to refund tix (as a fair number of the no shows have been demanding) in a zillion years.

what caused the SNAFU? They play football games there. You would think they could handle traffic

I honestly cant keep track of all these outdoor games now, so I honestly had no clue it was on either...
I heard it was the logistics all around was a mess, and the league is washing their hands of it blaming the operators etc...yep sounds like a Bettman move to me!

So, local radio here this AM has essentially gifted The Pens 4 points...think we will steamroll them. Not sure on that...their O is deadly good gotta keep them to the perimeter, if they get to the middle they will score. Minimize the penalties and turnovers vs these guys...and shoot early and often vs the shitsack Andersen. Five hole!

More than a few Leaves fans are even getting in on the self deprecation. Not falling for that rope a dope...get the 2 tonight and keep things rolling.

Here is the official postgame release from the USAF, which I believe was in charge of game logistics:

The following (updated) statement was emailed to The Denver Post after a request was made to comment on Saturday’s traffic jams, long concession/bathroom lines, parking issues and other problems associated with the NHL Stadium Series event at Falcon Stadium.

“Like at any AF event, we will study what went well and what didn’t. Some immediate thoughts here were (to) have more concessions vendors to hopefully create less long lines.

Multiple efforts were made by the NHL and Air Force Academy to warn attendees about potential traffic delays getting to the sold-out Stadium Series game yesterday. In addition to website and social media posts, and signage along the I-25 corridor in the week leading up to the game, the NHL alerted the more than 43,000 fans who had purchased tickets about the need to allow plenty of time in traveling to Falcon Stadium on game day. As well, in the week leading up to the game, the NHL through numerous media interviews reminded fans about the need to plan their travel based on anticipated delays.

To mitigate the anticipated traffic congestion, the Academy opened at 5:30 a.m. and eliminated vehicle ID checks at 12:30 p.m. – 5 1/2 hours before the game. We thank the many fans who took advantage of that window to arrive well in advance and enjoy the Fan Fest activities that started at 1 p.m. Because of this early planning, the vast majority of fans were able to get to the stadium prior to the puck drop and had an amazing experience at the game.

Unfortunately, several factors the day of the game came together to cause even greater than expected traffic delays. Unlike many large sports venues, all traffic into the two gates at the Air Force Academy comes from one interstate. In the hours leading up to the game, there were numerous road condition changes and unforeseen events including multiple lane closures in both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-25, emergency pothole repairs that forced further lane closures, and multiple vehicle accidents between Castle Rock and Monument. Despite our best efforts, all of these, added to the already challenging traffic conditions along the I-25 corridor, combined and unfortunately impacted some fans traveling to the game.

At the conclusion of the game, as we were routing traffic off base, there was a tragic incident at our North Gate that resulted in the death of one of our guests. Outbound traffic was immediately diverted to allow for emergency response crews and investigators to arrive on scene. While the details of that incident are still under investigation, we are devastated by the event and send the deepest condolences to his loved ones. We thank all of the crews who worked to clear traffic from the base despite only having one gate and we appreciate the patience and understanding of everyone impacted.

While we regret the unfortunate circumstances experienced by some fans, a near-capacity crowd was in their seats at the start of an exciting night of hockey. We appreciate the efforts of fans who planned ahead and arrived early and most were able to enjoy a fantastic evening with multiple flyovers and musical performances that highlighted the competitive spirit of the NHL, the history and culture of the Academy, and the milestone achievements of USA Hockey.

— Troy Garnhart, associate AD of communications, Air Force athletics.

When asked specifically about the ride-share program in which fans said was not available after the game, Garnhart wrote: “We have been told by security forces that ride shares were allowed at all times. So I don’t know if some made individual decisions not to pick up or what, but they were allowed in all evening.”

To my ears this actually does sound refreshingly honest, however imo warning fans for however long about likely delays ? Well gee thanks. Delays at the concession lines, washrooms and parking? That's on you the organizer's BOTH league and USAF.
I'm not sure about you guys but not sure it's feasible for all to take the entire damn day to get to the facility. Then again you wouldn't catch me dead at one of these events regardless. A whole lot of hoopla for nothing, if ya ask me....

Just caught the tail end of the 1st.....but saw the two goals on the DVR. Thought the first goal was fabulous; typical on-the-tape, back-across-the-grain pass from Sid, but I thought Rusty's set-and-release roof job over Andersen was world class. Glad to see his wrists are still feeling it, after a few games where he seemed to be a bit missing.

Sid does a pretty nice job corraling that off-the-ice flip pass from Horndog on the goal...... he DOES makes it easy sometimes, doesn't he ??

Earning that dough....I'm not sure I ever would have predicted these type numbers outta him. He's been a man possessed this year and thank goodness for that.

Vs one of the youngest and a very talented Offensive team? We looked light years faster tonight...credit to Tanev , and Kahun in that department. 3rd and 4th line jam, the Captain leading the way with Rusty. Solid effort by Jars and the D....Horney doing his thing. I feel bad not mentioning who I forgot...this was a solid team win. Gonna skip into work tomorrow....

I thought Teddy had another of his increasingly frequent "he was everywhere" nights.....,meanwhile, enjoy your day today, t.

Will be very curious to see what the Leafs bring tomorrow night. I'm assuming it'll be comparable to the buzzsaw the Guins ran into recently in Florida (after the Panthers got bitch-slapped the previous game by Vegas). But if the media reports are at all indicative of what's going on in their lockerroom......and that very well may not be the case.....the Leafs sure sound like a pretty fragile group right now.

Plus, the Leafs don't exactly have a Quenneville in their room jamming needles under their fingernails......

Good point on Blue.

Meanwhile , sound the alarms it's full on meltdown around here today lol... best quote I heard was actually from Jerkie Burkie in saying it's like they sent a bus around downtown Toronto , picked up the best hockey players they could find and threw em on the ice' :joy:...in saying that I'm not sure he'd really have anything positive to say about the current regime with the way he was drummed outta here...

No matter how the Leaves played last night however I give our lads full credit for the W. Drawing penalties, creating turnovers in the neutral zone, forecheck...when a team plays horribly, sometimes it's also the opposition playing their system incredibly well...this was imo both in action. I expect more pushback outta them on Thursday, but I think our crew with the way they've been playing can handle it....
Now let's go see who wants to chat around this town this morning shall we? Haven't found many chatty folks thus far lol....

One more thing, courtesy DK (though I'm sure this may well be covered in other media):

After last night's 3 PP goals......and 13 in their last 13 games.....Guins are up to 9th in the League on the PP. If you recall how little they were getting from the PP around the New Year......I'm pretty sure they'd dropped maybe into the low 20's leaguewide.....that's pretty decent.

And after last night's 4 for 4 on kills.....against the League's #4 PP.....they've killed 26 of their last 29 penalties (and are up to 7th on the PK).

Now that the good guys are in possession of 1st in Metro, if they can manage to hold onto it...I dunno bout you guys but I would rather the Isles get their act together so we ideally face the Cryers... I have no desire to face off against the Isles again first round. And we know why...

fvck the islanders. bring em on.
