--Really interesting how the Big 12 elected to do this as every team in a 16-team league will play each other in a home-and-home at least once over a four year period. There has been a lot of debate on how it could be structured and what it would mean but this is about the best way imaginable when it comes to actually still feeling like a conference with teams playing each other in a reasonable amount of time instead of going seven or eight years without seeing a team.
--West Virginia does not have a protected rivalry game, which surprised by that the league did not force Cincinnati there given the proximity of the two. Still, the Mountaineers will get the Bearcats three times over those four seasons along with getting these teams three times in Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Kansas, Texas Tech and UCF. Truthfully, that's not perfect but getting Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Kansas are nice carryovers from the old Big 12, while UCF is a good road trip.
--Of the six teams West Virginia plays three times, they get two home games and one road game with Kansas, Iowa State and UCF and one home game and two road games with Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Cincinnati.
--Of the four newcomers, West Virginia won't host one next season but will travel to Arizona. The Mountaineers will get their first crack at hosting one in 2025 when Colorado and Utah comes to town but they also will head to Arizona State and BYU that season. That will be the longest travel year considering they also must go to Houston, UCF and Kansas.
--The Mountaineers get only one true back-to-back home and home with Utah at home in 2025 and then on the road in 2026 with the newcomers. As for total home-and-home from the teams only on the schedule twice, the Mountaineers head to Houston in 2025 then get them at home in 2026 and the reverse is true for TCU in those two years. So theoretically if you wanted to see Dana Holgorsen in Morgantown, he would need to stick around until 2026.
--The first time going to the new locations. Arizona in 2024, Arizona State and BYU in 2025, Utah in 2026 and Colorado in 2027.
--West Virginia will host seven home games for the first time since 2016 next season. The slate should be a good one with Penn State and Albany in the non-conference and then Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and UCF all coming to Morgantown. The road games will be Pittsburgh in non-conference and then Arizona, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Cincinnati.
--This schedule just looks as if it's going to breed parity with a lot of teams stacked up. Should be fun to navigate.
