WVU Release WVU Women's Basketball - West Virginia Up to No. 24 in AP Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Jan. 1, 2024) – The West Virginia University women's basketball team checked in at No. 24 in the Associated Press (AP) Poll, announced Monday.



The ranking is the second straight week WVU has appeared in the poll. The Mountaineers have opened the season with a perfect 12-0 start. West Virginia finished its non-conference slate with a perfect 11-0 mark and collected its first Big 12 win, 85-60, over Kansas on Saturday, Dec. 30, in Lawrence, Kansas.

WVU (12-0, 1-0 Big 12) received 106 points this week to rank 24th in the poll and is one of five Big 12 Conference teams featured in the latest rankings.



Baylor (12-0) is No. 6 with 689 points while Texas (13-1) comes in at No. 10 with 589 points. Kansas State (13-1) is just behind at No. 11 with 519 points and TCU (14-0) came in at No. 23 with 120 points.

No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 NC State, No. 4 Iowa and No. 5 Colorado made up this week's top five.

West Virginia hosts Cincinnati on Wednesday, Jan. 3, for the first of two straight Big 12 matchups at the WVU Coliseum this week.
