MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Dec. 25, 2023) – The West Virginia University women's basketball team checked in at No. 25 in the Associated Press (AP) Poll, announced Monday.
The ranking is the first for WVU since Nov. 23, 2021. The Mountaineers have opened the season with a perfect 11-0 start. West Virginia holds a perfect nonconference record in a season for just the sixth time in program history.
WVU (11-0, 0-0 Big 12) received 49 points this week to rank 25th in the poll and is one of five Big 12 Conference teams featured in the latest rankings.
Texas (12-0) received 745 points and sits at No. 5, while Baylor (11-0) is No. 10 with 607 points. Kansas State (12-1) is just behind at No. 11 with 500 points and TCU (13-0) came in at No. 23 with 73 points.
No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 NC State, No. 4 Iowa and No. 5 Texas made up this week's top five.
West Virginia officially opens the 2023-24 Big 12 campaign on Saturday, Dec. 30, when the team hits the road against Kansas. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
