University president Gee channels his own hypocrisy with mask goof.

Assuming that you're finally telling the truth, then why are some parents still having to educate their kids at home?

No clue. But I know my kids HATE virtual because they say it's harder. I don't have to do much or anything really (just tech if problem with wifi or computer). My kid's teachers are on the computers (IN THEIR CLASSROOMS) helping them every second.

Oh, and if I was always backing the teacher unions, why have I stated in previous posts that I think the kids SHOULD BE IN SCHOOL?

So, now you tacitly admit that the teachers' unions oppose returning to the classroom, and that they're wrong for doing so? Now, you know why I bashed your...uhhhh...the teachers' unions. My whole point, which you never seemed to grasp, was that schools should offer in-classroom schooling PERIOD I did not have a problem with virtual learning also being offered, where possible, but parents of younger kids should be able to drop their kids off at school and go to work, if they need to do so.

Did you support the teachers and the Unions on strike over PEIA? This makes the 3rd year in a row that WV students have missed in-person learning days due to political reasons..

So, you admit that you lied about your kids having been granted permission to return to the classroom...interesting. Just talked to an insurance adjuster in Pennsylvania yesterday. She's a single mother of a third-grade girl, and required to teach her daughter three days/week because the school district allows a maximum of two days/week of in-class instruction. Why should the teachers in her school district make their full salaries?

That is the setup my kids have. Two days in school, 3 at home. The teachers have students each day, just split schedules and Monday everyone is virtual. They gave my 1st grader an IPAD, which just complicated everything...they aren't able to use it on their own so parents need to handle everything.

Our city district is a mess, no kids in school and from what I'm told the student participation is very low. These kids are screwed.

I wonder whether the Governor regrets having gone to bat repeatedly for the teachers, only to see them stab him in the back and endorse his opponent in the upcoming election.

typical democratic behavior. Just like the police unions, UMWA, and others that keep endorsing democrats when its always one of their own who fukks them over.

Hang in there, man. Things will start to change beginning on November 4, 2020. Politics will no longer affect (infect) every decision made in America...well, at least for three years or so.

Can you imagine how the grandparents that have to raise their grandchilds feel with all this technology and learning how to use iPads, etc? Must be a nightmare for those in your district and it is here for those in WV as well.

The teachers union was strongly against returning to school and in some places against virtual learning too, they literally wanted to not work at all.

They were planning a strike, because they thought most teachers and parents were against returning, but when it came time to enroll (with option to learn virtually) it was clear parents wanted to send their kids back.

It's only a couple weeks in and families who chose 100% virtual are starting to re-enroll their kids in real school. The local catholic schools are open 5 days a week and have a waiting list.

Wolf in PA was heavily indebted to teachers union and was trying to get schools to self-close. Which is why the guidelines kept changing and he tried to shutdown sports - that was for the teachers union.

It is hard right now. Two kids in elementary school on the hybrid schedule, a 1 year old and we just had a newborn. Homeschool isn't something that is sustainable for us.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on private school. I just don't want to bounce my kids around and under normal circumstances, we really like the school they attend.

We are on the hybrid schedule and I wish they handled virtual like your district is...ours just assigns work on google classroom and the parents do the work with the kids.

First, the governors and state boards of education make the decisions, not the unions. Call that defending, I don't care. But that's the fact. Now, are they influenced by the unions? Sure. Just like everything, politicians are influenced by lobbyists or unions or wealthy individuals. It's part of life/politics.

My kids' district was set to open up the first week of August, then the governor pushed it back to last week of August, then again to last week of September. But he's now said that he will not advise anymore postponements and will allow the local districts to determine startup day. My kids will not be in a hybrid system. They will go every day to school. From what I was told, about 40% of the district's parents signed their kids up for virtual, and 60% for in-person. The district board meeting last month released that data to the public when having to determine enrollment for "social distancing" in the classrooms and hallways and cafeteria.

Those teachers are now going to have to perform double duty: instruct during class time and the virtual stuff as well. The school board answered questions from the public and were asked what type of instruction would be allowed or not allowed for those signing up for virtual. The board said that it must reflect what it going on in the classroom in-person instruction, so no educational programs that you just slap on there.

I'm sorry to you and your better half. Although I'm not in your situation at all, you're the people for whom I am most concerned.

We know people in that situation and it is unfortunate. Also lots of parents who cant work from home so grandparents watch the kids, and it puts a lot of stress on them, which is unnecessary.

Dale Lee of the WVEA is basically wanting Gov. Justice to go full online until the “teachers and students” can be fully safe. For them being educators, you would think they would know the actual statistics of the virus and it’s super low tendency to even cause symptoms in healthy people, especially young children. But let’s ignore the data because it doesn’t fit our political agenda.

You have to remember that your situation is far different than most others outside of the State of Indiana. For all practical purposes, the teacher's union makes these decisions in West Virginia. Just to give you an example as to how much power the teacher's union wields here: Mitch Carmichael, who is the West Virginia State Senate President, opposed a teacher's strike, and, to the shock of almost everyone, just lost in the GOP primary to some no-named teacher.

For the love of God, I do NOT live in Indiana.

EDIT: I've posted before where I live. It's easy to find. I have lived in several states in my life. West Virginia was the longest.

Yeah the Unions rule WV education. The funny one is Richard Ojeda(D) of Logan County who tried to spearhead the whole supporting the Unions to strike due to PEIA while he was in the WV State Senate and use it to spring him up to the US Senate against Carol Miler (R) and then got blowed out in the election.

Loved seeing his meltdown once he lost that election and went to blaming everyone.

I still work in the public ed sector (unfortunately) and this is absolutely the case. Most teachers want schooling back to normal, even with the stupid masks, distancing, one-way hallways, etc.. They want all the kids back in the buildings with to intent to return to as much normalcy as possible. Those you see yapping on the news and to the papers are the building union reps, inevitably the worst teachers in every school - worst instructor, classroom manager, AND coworker. Building union reps are the HR managers of schools.

They're not afraid for themselves. They're certainly not afraid for the students. They simply want to do as little as possible to still "justify" their paycheck, which hasn't been late during the entire lockdown. They want to "teach" from their couches in their pajamas and post "assignments" on Teams that have auto-grading.

Do you all enjoy flying completely off topic, just to piss and moan at each other over every little damn thing?

My family knows him well and actively campaigned against him. He is batshit crazy and has daily meltdowns while streaming himself on Facebook. It’s quite a site to see when everyday he goes into conspiracy theories on how all of a Logan County is against him.

He tries to use his military background to advance his political aspirations, yet did nothing to help promote change for the VA. It wasn’t until president trump was elected that the Veterans were getting the help they needed.

Let me start by saying this: MASKS ARE STUPID AND DO NOTHING TO HELP!!!!!!

Ok, got that out of the way. How many on here are parents? Have you ever scolded your kid for dropping an 'F' bomb or other word that you had determined not allowed? Then turned around and dropped one yourself? Or you caught your child using tobacco, and after scolding them you go out and smoke/dip?

My point? We are ALL hypocrites and someone pointing out another person's hypocrisy is.....well......hypocrisy. [roll]

This is the dumbest f'n thing I've ever read on this board and thats nothing to brag about.

1. When you're a parent you have privilege for paying bills, providing food, clothes, etc to your kids. Its their responsibility to follow the rules regardless. Not sure how things ran in your socialist household, but in mine I make the rules and they haven't earned the right to break them.

2. Gee is NO students parents. The masks are rules of the university NOT his rules. He is applicable to them just as Fauci or anyone else is.

This is like saying well I'm allowed to lie under oath about getting head in the oval office but you aren't allowed to lie under oath cuz I'm the president....

Pratt drops the mic...on MountaineerWV's head. Well done, sir!

1. Were the students suspended for just not wearing a mask? Or for large gatherings?
2. Was Gee not wearing a mask? Yes. Was he with someone in close proximity? Photo didn't show.
3. Was Gee a hypocrite? Yes. We ALL are.

Sorry to disappoint.

Sorry that I wasn't the one that destroyed your argument (Pratt was), but you're obsessed with me because I exposed you as a shameless teacher's union steward.

You didn't respond to my question about why the students were suspended. Why was that?

Gee is currently disciplining students for not wearing a mask, harshly. So I dont see why he isnt accountable to the same standards.

This isnt a parent scolding a child - get real.

Did he discipline them for going against the gathering without safe distancing while partying rule or the no mask rule?

EDIT: Never mind saw your answer.

This is a great plan. My kids do M,T, Thr, F in class and weds at home. The teachers are available all day to answer Skype type questions
