Empty campaign rhetoric or a solemn promise? Do you believe him, actually more importantly who opposes this? I'm sure every Trump hating Leftist, but none of them will admit here they do correct? No? OK, where are you?

Former President Donald J. Trump said on Saturday he would “obliterate the Deep State” if elected president and told supporters he is their “warrior” and “retribution.”

I agree he'll never "obliterate" them all, but I'd settle for 50%? 🤔

He can start with the NSA, FBI, IRS, and DHS....needs to clean house in all of 'em because they're all corrupt and rotten to the core.

Agreed...however a serious degrading of their corruption and unconstitutional control over our Republic is in order. Root out as many of them as possible, and reform or even shut down some of them. IRS and FBI need to be defunded, renamed and re-purposed IMO.

Lol, he’d get less 1/1000th of 1%

Maybe. The Swamp is virtually bottomless with tentacles & roots deeply embedded into almost everything. So while he'll never be able to "obliterate" them, he should still go after as many as he can get. He'll never run out of targets.

His saying this in his stump speeches will only align the entire IC against him to stop him. That is an extremely powerful group of people to piss off.

Aside from them, the election denying isn’t going to play at all with moderates. We lost GA of all places in the mid terms because of Trump. Kemp had no issues defeating tank Abrams, but yet, we lost to Ralph fvcking Warnock. It’s absurd. Oz lost to someone who hasn’t been seen in DC in 2 months because he’s been in a hospital.

You guys need to understand just how badly Trump fvcked up with your normal voter. Your hard headed optimism is going to cost us the White House with another failed run by him.

You obviously weren't watching the CPAC conference this past weekend if you suggest Trump is the reason those candidates lost in those two races? Whoever it is you think will carry the GOP message to the "moderates", that candidate won't win one State without a GOP base that's as firmly behind him as they are now behind Trump!

I'm also curious...who are the "normal" voters you speak of?

I've observed on here no GOP candidate "moderate" or otherwise can win the Republican party nomination without firm support from the base. Trump proved that political reality in 2016, as he took a small dedicated base of voters and carried their support past 15 other candidates and then parlayed that support into the White House. They haven't left him! Matter of fact, that base of supporters has grown since Trump was escorted from the WH to make room for his meticulously installed replacement.

This cycle, it will take an even greater amount of support for another GOP candidate than Trump currently has to keep him from the Republican nomination. If this past weekend's CPAC is any indication, there isn't another candidate on the Republican side who's going to beat him.

excerpt:
"as a practical matter, Trump won the Republican nomination in 2016 for a very simple reason: he built and kept a large minority of incredibly loyal supporters within the party, while the majority of Republican voters, who would have preferred another candidate, split their votes among too many alternatives. And today, Trump, battered as he might seem, is both a former president and a demigod even to many Republicans who were wary of him in his first run. Barring dramatic, unexpected events – which, in fairness, are always a possibility with Trump – he’ll go into next year’s primary contests as an even more broadly popular and respected figure than he was in 2016, when his favorability among Republicans seldom cracked 60%."

On top of his obvious popularity among GOP base voters, Trump's got a record to run on, and so far no one willing to challenge him has been willing to offer a better alternative set of policy objectives vs Trump's policy results.

again from above linked article:
"The fact that the candidates thus far seem unwilling to run against Trump’s actual record in office doesn’t help matters. According to Scott, the Trump administration produced “the most pro-worker, pro-family economy” of his lifetime – a sentiment that makes it hard to understand what the substantive argument against another Trump term is supposed to be. The obvious knock on him is that he was defeated in 2020 – but the conservative base isn’t going to want to hear that their preferences hurt the party, and many Republicans still don’t believe Trump really lost the election in the first place"

It's going to take one Hell of a GOP candidate to supplant Trump from his base. If such a candidate is out there, particularly if they're a so called "moderate" they haven't come forward yet if they ever will?

We lost because election laws were broken Nationwide. And they got away with it. Now, we may never see a fair election again. Blaming Trump is not the answer

The 40%-50% of voters that identify as moderates or registered independents. Trump will get the 30% block of the registered GOP.

CPAC is not an accurate representation of reality. It’s a pep rally. They’re not going to talk the negative. It’d be like a basketball coach talking flaws at a pep rally.

That may be true, but CPAC represents the base of the party. I say again, you can't win the general without first securing your base. Who is the "moderate" GOP candidate that carries the GOP base, and by definition defeats Trump?

Did you read the article I linked to earlier? If you did, how would you handle this?

from linked article in post # 10
"The need to compete with Trump for Trump’s voters has erased any meaningful differences between the supposedly staid establishment wing of the Republican party and Trump’s camp; those who hope to replace Trump on the ballot in the general election next year are doing all they can, whether they know it or not, to make themselves appear almost as radical and unappealing to the bulk of the general electorate – which, granted, may lose out again in the electoral college – as Trump himself does."

So as the GOP seeks to secure the WH by courting the "moderates" and independents, they will have to find a way to appeal to Trump's base. Who is that candidate?

DeSantis is the only one with a real shot.

As long as you guys fail to recognize we lose the White House with an 80 year old Trump running, it’s pointless to keep having these discussions. The candidate the left is most afraid of is DeSantis. They want Trump to run.

You’re seeing Trump’s camp whining about Fox giving DeSantis the treatment. Yes, Fox is, because the also recognize Trump is unelectable and winning is more important than being idealistic.

DeSantis will not beat Trump for the GOP nomination and he is NOT a "moderate".

I agree. All I will say to end this is as things stand today, this nomination is Trump's to lose. Until or unless a GOP candidate emerges who has a better agenda to run on and appeal to BOTH Trump's supporters as well as a broader cross section of independents and moderates, Trump will win the nomination and he will be head and shoulders above whoever the radical Left puts up to oppose him.

They're in even worse shape than the GOP! So we'll agree to disagree on this and see what happens in the primaries which will be well underway by this time in '24.

I will take him serious about draining the swamp when he starts talking about convention of the states. That will cost him the backing of Mitch McConnell and the rnc most every dirty rotten bastard in D.C.... that is the only way we defeat the globalist and the swamp

Democrats will be ou

T in full to vote Trump in the primaries.

I'd happily vote for him if he is the GOP nominee. However he hasn't announced yet he's running, and if he runs he won't win running against Trump's agenda, he'll win running on Trump's agenda.

That agenda is NOT "moderate" and he's NOT Trump. So who needs a substitute when Trump voters will have a choice of the genuine article? However we shall see?

Wasn't "Drain the Swamp" his promise the first time around? I would expect nothing different form a second term.

I believe that promise he made, and the attempts he made to carry it out are in part why he's so viscerally despised by the very swamp swelling deep state elites who ironically insist they do not exist!

In reality he will never "obliterate" them all, however I believe his second attempt to eliminate as much as he can of them is sincere. YOU believe him, which is precisely why you both oppose him and detest him.

What? You think I'm opposed to Trump because he is going to eliminate or limit the deep state?
I have been calling for the elimination of the FBI and CIA and every other federal department since I first found the off topic forum.

OK...good. You should enjoy Trump's next "at bat" with the swamp dwelling deep State! He won't hit home runs each time he's at the plate, but a .475 hitter is still a very dangerous slugger! 😜

id happy if he was able to end a single war or put in lower government spending than the year before just once tbh, but seeing as how last time he was in he signed the largest spending bill ever and more than doubled the US money supply during his term i doubt to see either of those happen

Keep the Faith @cam_blev the swamp wasn't built in a day and it may take 3 or four election cycles to shut it down.

Not going to happen
Elect a conservative (not just Republican—too many RINOs mucking up the works) House, Senate, and President and it might have a chance. Would be a great, and so necessary, change.

You decide for yourself if the names on this list are swamp creatures or not. If they are swamp creatures did Trump not have the power/will keep them out or wasn't smart enough to know they were corrupt?
Trump was betrayed from day one by a lot of swamp dwellers. We even have Mountaineer fans who hate Huggs! Go figure?

Loyalty is a fleeting thing. Trump is not beholden to the swamp, owes no favors to swamp dwellers, and is committed to draining the swamp even if everyone in it or around him is not!

Who are you supporting? It sure doesn't sound like it's Trump?

Good for you. Then stop bitching about Trump. Your guy 100% will NOT drain the swamp. Trump most likely at least will get another chance.

He definitely should have learned some lessons the hard way on who to trust.
