Pens /Rangers....

Good points. I did not realize Daley was a -4. The pass he made on the 1st goal was very impressive.

A couple other interesting (or troubling) +\- tidbits; Kessel scores 2 goals and was STILL a - 2, which means he......as was apparently the case for both Bonino (who had 2 assists) and Hagelin......was on the ice (along with Trevor Daley) for all 4 Rangers goals. Conversely, Derrick Brassard was a +4.....and JT Miller a +3.....for the NYR.

Ya know what else is a bit strange about the stats you listed CM? These guys listed are the ones that have injected some speed and energy into the lineup since their appearance...along with some smart play (especially Daley)...downright bizarre imo...lets hope they can rip off a big W game 3. JZ has done an admirable job but we also need our #1 or even 2 back in the cage...I think we would see the boys playing with the Penguin swagger of the last few months if so...it's funny sometimes how teams tend to get off their game when they sub consciously (or maybe even knowing full well) know somebody else is between the pipes...

Shot my pre-game prediction all to hell!

I listened to the first period on the internet and missed periods 2 and 3 due to a family function. But if I had to guess, the loss could be pinned on turnovers in the neutral zone, not getting the puck deep, and silly east west passes... Interestingly Bourque was saying in the first period that Maata didn't look right and I saw on the highlights he mad a terrible play on the first or second ranger goal.

OM1 you are bang on there re: Maatta...myself and others in the stands were commenting on how his decision making was poor and he really looked a step behind all game....when the heat was on him deep in zone he seemed awfully panicked back there...maybe injury hangover still nagging at him? Not sure.....

Btw when I get a chance later, I've been meaning to give a review on my experiences with the fans from the center of the universe....unreal...

You are dead on OM. I flashed back to the Bylsma days with all the drop passes. And Maata seemed to have trouble pivoting and getting going. It's easy to see he's not near a 100%. If that's the case I'd sit him Tuesday night. I wish we'd sit Kunitz and Lovejoy too but I know that's not happening.

Re Saturday: So of course there are miserable , obnoxious, know it all SOB's all over the globe. Lord knows I can even be one myself some days ....Many Ranger fans have taken a liking to bring it to a new level however...

The lovely wife and I board the hotel shuttle to Consol and with other events on In town and several others on board I ask 'excuse me, but is this the shuttle going to Consol Energy Center?' Only to be interrupted by the jerk beside us 'It's the F'n Ranger game get it right!' To the amusement of the other Jackass NY fans on board...ok fine...then try and break some ice and chat hockey later I inquire 'So how do you guys feel about your new acquisition Staal thus far?' To which...'Nevermind WTF do you know about him'...more laughter ensues. At which point the wife gives me the tap on leg to say unequivocally 'Don't you dare' lol...She knows me well haha...for the record I watched that Staal fella (who is now a shell of his former prowess) in junior for 3 years playing up the road from my neck of the woods...but why bother chatting with a bunch of lug heads...

After goal #3 the one of the 3 jackasses in Blue a few rows up from us decides to stand up, turn around arms outstretched and say 'Now you can all F OFF!'...it was highly amusing watching him take the ejection walk followed by his other 2 pals minutes later. Not so amusing for the parents with children in the stands out for a special afternoon. There was also plenty of bumping and loudmouthing from fellas in Blue in the washrooms at intermission....
It is a playoff enviro and things can obviously get more intense (and obviously drunk), but honestly, these miserable self absorbed ingrates come into an opposing barn /city and act like this?!?
I thought Cryers fans were the worst filth out there....not anymore in my books. I've got plenty of Ranger hate on right now my friends....I would dearly love to see this Ranger squad waxed badly the next 3!!!

For the record Pens fans that I saw were remarkably restrained in dealing with the nonsense witnessed and I say well done...class in the face of arrogance!

Rant over...sorry....

Oh and yes...we had an AMAZING time regardless the result on Ice and actions of the miserable few...Kudos to the city of Pittsburgh and it's fine inhabitants....

LETS GO PENS!!!! Demolish the F'n Rangers....:boxing:

It's unfortunate you had to deal with a bunch of jackwagons like that.

Wacky experience for you on SAT, t.......of course, it's not against the law at least in Pittsburgh) for retards to buy playoff hockey tickets.

Regardless, glad you and the Missus at least had a pleasant time in the city, even if the game proved to be some distance less than satisfying. I honestly wish you had informed the scumbag(s) that you were watching Staals in person before they.....or anyone in the building that day.....or anyone in the Garden tomorrow night.....had even ever heard of the family. Oh, and also that you leave more knowledge of the game in the commode after you sit down than they've nursed in their pea brains over their entire pathetic lives.

Back to the series; I've finally reconciled that for as badly as the NYR were thought to have tattooed the Pens, the entire game came down to that miserable 5 minutes in the 2nd period. Of course, those count every bit as much as the other 55; but eliiminate them......which I honestly think can be done.....and that's an entirely different game.

As was widely reported in Saturday's aftermath, the Pens need to quit trying to beat that Rangers' defensive conga line at their own blue line (especially when they have the lead) and start dumping and chasing and.....with Hagelin and Kessel and Rust and Sheary......win the races to the puck versus the admittedly strong skating Rangers. And just as how Kreider and Klein (and that pain in the ass Fast) threw around their weight in Game 2, Horny and Kunitz (and maybe Bonino, Cullen, and Fehr.....or Big Geno, for that matter) need to park their asses in the Rangers crease and make King Henrik's life miserable.

If they start skating again and get Lundqvist pissed off.......and we all know he's as easy to PO as any goaltender in the business (and especially when he allows a cheapie)......this series can turn around toots sweet. BTW, my opinion doesn't mean anything, but I myself definitely think Zatkoff will start tomorrow night. Meanwhile, Pens website reported that Murray was back on the ice and practicing, though it doesn't sound as though his return to the lineup is being discussed at this time.

Finally, it sounds like Maatta will be scratched tomorrow night; Lord knows he played on Saturday like he was hurting. I'm sort of assuming......perhaps mistakenly.....that he was rushed back to the lineup after the previous injury. In any event, DK is reporting the D-pairings are expected to be Daley-Letang, Dumoulin-Lovejoy, and Cole-Schultz.

BTW, changing the subject for a second, did you happen to see Ryan White plant Brooks Orpik into the boards in tonight's Craps/Cryers game ?? Orpik was about as far down Queer Street as I've seen any NHL'er for awhile.....and it really wasn't even an exceptionally severe hit. Given his concussion history, I suspect there's a decent chance Orpik has played his last minutes of this year's playoffs.

Back in Michigan this week, and keeping fingers and toes crossed my hotel tomorrow night in Grand Rapids has NBCSN (as was the case when I was in suburban Detroit last THU night).

Indeed CM...give a lughead enough drink and it's no surprise the result 99% of the time. Also I suppose it's no surprise that NY sports fans have an awfully myopic view on things...we're all supposed to nod in agreement with them and play along apparently. They loosely reminded me of your average Toronto fan in some ways...the average Leaf fan or even Torontonian in general tends to find themselves at the center of the Canadian universe , although funny enough while winning jack squat sports wise...
Nah...I didn't play along with the fellas on the shuttle bus. Had I been with the boys rather than the wife things may have turned out a bit differently however...I also thought, this bus of 8 Rangers and 2 Penguins is gonna take a drastic turn in numbers once we pull up to Consol lol....

As to your points re dumping that puck deep and skating their Pens asses off I couldn't agree more! Let alone as you say getting under Lundqvist's skin...hoping Horney can be that pest and Kunitz can bang a little bit in there....I have had mixed feelings on #14's play of late. He needs to hit paydirt with a goal or 2 every so often and feel WVRON's frustration that way ....but I have been impressed with his willingness to battle and even drop the gloves more of late, they need more of that pushback up and down the lineup imo....the Rangers honestly don't scare me in the least. What scares me is the thought of this Pens team reverting to the team we saw in the first 1/2 of the season and beating themselves. I'm fairly confident we see a much more engaged team tomorrow eve at minimum....
Hoping you can beam in that NBCSN signal to Michigan again tomorrow eve!

And no I didn't see the hit on Orpik...I need to tune in to the highlights (perhaps lowlights in this case), and have a look see. ...pretty vicious eh?

Great stuff Toronto and Cool! I agree on all points. If our Pens get back to the style of play that got us here we'll be fine. I'd feel a lot more confident though with Flower or Murray in goal. Not that Zats played poorly but perhaps our guys are a bit tentative knowing he's in net. It does seem though Sully has pushed all of the right buttons and there's no reason to think we won't get back to our game tonight.

I worry not only that he has played his last minutes in the playoff (even though I abhor the Caps), but fear it may end his career because of his history. I mean he did not know what world he was in. It was painful to watch! I always liked Orpie when he was with the Pens.

Yikes man! I just pulled up the video...it looked to my eyes like White got just a bit too high on him at the last second there...truly hope he's ok...especially with the past concussion history. I imagine he didn't even know his own name for awhile after getting his bell rung like that...he will for certain be a huge loss for the Craps

According to my local Rogers radio feed...Sullivan- 'Matt Murray will be available tonight'....lets hope available turns to not just on the bench but between the pipes...although as you and the others say Zatkoff has given the Pens a chance the last 2...it has been a nice 'luxury' under the present circumstances to have a 3rd stringer with at least SOME NHL experience....

Let's Go Pens!!!

Yea I just saw that about Murray on the Pens site. Murray sounds like he doesn't think he's playing though.

Killing off the double minor is huge! Let's net one before the period ends.
Is this fun or what! Lol...they are at each other's throats!
Matt Murray looking real solid...nothing seems to phase this kid and he is calm and cool when they're trying to antagonize him. If I have one minor complaint, I'd like to see that puck feathered in a bit more behind Henrik so he is forced to play it rather than rifled around the boards...

Man I love playoff hockey...especially when your team is playing a pretty good road game thus far lol...keep on em and keep up the speed boys...

Well they just beat us at our own game there with that shorty....damn. Handcuffed him with a laser....

BTW CM I have the Rosen Micheletti feed again tonight...still fairly unbiased fair commentary but decidedly a higher tempo, I imagine because of. The home game...

Major score, not just because it tied up the game.......nor because the Pens finally connected (thanks, Kess) on a cross-icer for seemingly the first time in eons......but because it was in the last minute of the period. New ballgame, boys and girls.....meanwhile, can Murray possibly outplay the King the rest of the way ???

BTW, it wouldn't bother me a bit if somebody jammed a blade right dead into Chris Kreider's big yap.

My buddy's at the Jays /Orioles game in Baltimore tonight...he says 'look for me I'm right behind the plate!'....Torontoeers says ' Lol. Uh no...I love ya dude but MAYBE during the intermission...besides you're an ex Brooklynite with a Nash jersey so you can F off tonight!'

Murray was unbelievable!
A little somewhat personal side note for you fellas...they often kept referring to Murray as a Thunder Bay Ontario native on my NY feed...I spent every summer up there WAAAAY north lol, with my aunts/uncles and cousins as a youth. My mom used to suit me up and drive me down to the airport from Sarnia to Toronto. The Stewardesses would take good care of me on my flight on my own as just a young fella...anyway...I emailed my aunt tonight and said 'So who's it gonna be with you all? Matt Murray or the Staal brothers?!?'....To my pleasure she mentioned they were 'all watching and the Staal's have had their kick at the can...we're going Penguins all the way!' This from an assortment of Leaf/Jets and Wild fans....yep...The whole city is watching and pulling for our big lanky goalie...anyone else think that size reminds them of another BIG imposing Pens goalie from the past? Really hoping he has a long and productive career for the Pens...

Was glad Doc Emrick (on the NBCSN telecast, t) mentioned 3rd period scoring chances were 5-0 Pens.

That didn't surprise me at all; watching the 3rd period move along, it became clear the Rangers......who admittedly were skating like absolute MF'ers..... were having an equally terrible time getting pucks to net. Pens defense did a fabulous job keeping them on the perimeter and at the walls and away from the front of the net. And when they got the puck back to the point, their shots weren't getting through to the goal.

That was one of the best back-checking and defensive periods I've seen a Penguins team play ever. NYR finished with a measly 17 SOG (and only 4 in the 3rd) while the Pens had 31 SOG. Great win, and knocks the Rangers (and their sanctimonious backers) off their high horse; well, for a day, at least. One thing we now know for sure.....if we didn't know it before.....is that home ice means virtually nothing in this particular series.

And topping off the evening was the Dead Wings going down at home to Tampa. I've been stuck listening to Wings coverage over the past 2 days in my rental car with no XM, and I love seeing those equally (to NYR backers) sanctimonious f**** deal with an elimination game on Thursday.

Great Canadians, those folks.......and a great story !!!!!

Oh, and kudos to Conor Sheary and Brian Rust for skating like absolute MF'ers themselves.......and Trevor Daley and Olli Maatta for coming back like totally different players tonight compared to Saturday.

I can't wait for Game 4 on Thursday night. It should be a donnybrook! Now, let's go Pirates. Make it a Bucs and Pucks sweep!

Agree whole heartedly CM...they were blocking shots, and boxing em out perfectly! The Pens D looked stellar down the stretch and the Rangers D proved to have a bad odor that CAN be exploited! Proud of the effort I saw out of the whole team when it really mattered tonight...

Indeed all those you mentioned...happy to see Daley have a great game, after being stuck with a pretty borderline BS penalty earlier...sound decision making and skating on his part all night!

Also...one more thing...Kessel was FULLY engaged and firing away all night. Robbed on a pretty good shot glove side early, but kept coming at em...anyone think ole Phil has a bit of a fire under him now with a taste of the playoffs after years of drought in the Sahara up this way? Cause it looks that way to this guy!

I thought the same thing as I watched the game. I thought Daley had a very solid game.

After a very nondescript first half of the season, it seems like #81 has played much more inspired the past couple of months. I think the acquisition of Hagelin has helped his play also.

Indeed! And one other thing I've been thinkin...I don't think either Kessel or Letang were announced for the US or Canada for their respective World Cup rosters in September...I could be wrong on Kessel? But I'll be damned if #81 hasn't played himself onto one of the top 2 lines and Mr. Letang competing with Karlsson and Doughty for Norris trophy should make him a LOCK too imo...
