The Big 12 has struggled on the national recruiting trail for a while now, but that could quickly change if Oklahoma is able to make a run in the College Football Playoff. Missouri’s recruits continue to be in recruiting purgatory and the Jacob Eason watch continues for Georgia fans.

1. The Big 12 has a national recruiting perception problem. With signing day around two months away, collectively the Big 12 has still yet to land a five-star recruit for the fifth straight class, and trails behind every other Power 5 conference in number of ESPN 300 commitments, and that number isn’t even close. (For those keeping track, as of Wednesday morning the Big 12 had 19 ESPN 300 commits, behind the ACC and the Pac-12 with 31, Big Ten with 38 and SEC with 74.)

However, with Oklahoma seemingly locked into the College Football Playoff, recruiters agree the Sooners have a real chance to change how the league is viewed by recruits, especially on the national stage. If OU is able to ride its streak all the way to the national championship, recruiters say national recruits -- the five-stars that have been missing from the league for a while now -- will be easier to persuade.

This is actually a good point Oklahoma winning the National Championship would elevate the perception of the Big12 even more. On top of that when Texas gets back to being a top team again the Big12 will be one of the best football conferences. Texas being "down" has hurt the Big12 from a national perspective. Hard to find a better football conference top to bottom with Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, TCU and Texas being nationally ranked plus teams like Texas Tech, Kansas State and WVU having constant success. I even expect Iowa State to elevate their program with Matt Campbell being hired as head coach. Kansas is the only program that needs to step it up. Despite what some people around here might think the Big12 is a very very good conference and extremely difficult for anyone not named Oklahoma and Texas to win. I hope Oklahoma blows the doors off everybody and wins the National Championship. Nothing but good news for the Big12 if so.

The dadgum Big 12 ain't got recruiting problems. The problem is that the number of great high school players available just doesn't satisfy the demand. I submit that the Big 12 gets their fair share of what's out there.

Plus the other conferences have more teams. When that is taken into consideration, there is little difference between the B12 and the ACC & Big 10. The PAC12 is a little better this year, and the SEC is significantly better than the other conferences. A few programs in each conference gets the bulk of the top recruits.

If you do the math, it's not as bad as your numbers show considering the number of team per conference...
top 300 recruits per team per conference. Still in last place, but the 19 verses 31 is not the way to measure it. Your point is still valid but we are much closer when viewed per team. Only the SEC is kicking everyone's butts.
Big 12 = 1.9 per team
ACC = 2.2 per team
Pac12 = 2.6 per team
Big10 = 2.7 per team
SEC = 5.3 per team

No matter what OU ultimately does.....and no question they historically are #1 or 2 most seasons in conference recruiting.....the Big XII simply needs Texas to find a way to re-enter the elite recruiting game.
