NBA Finals ratings down badly. Pro sports crumbling

WVUAllen must be young. Dude who do you know who likes the NBA? It’s been a joke of a league for years. Nobody grown with kids watches that crap. Again pro sports will continue to dip. Bad attitude idiots, thugs, overpaid, overhyped, bad product.....social media also exposing the idiot pro athletes. The money will decline. It’s coming. Most I’ve talked to around USA agree pro sports are becoming a joke.

I'm twice your age. But continue with your ignorance.

It’s been a joke of a league for years.

.The only joke is you.

Nobody grown with kids watches that crap.

I know several adults who have kids, teenagers in fact, watch the pro sports together. Now carry on with your trolling.

Young people out grow young habits eventually. Most people who watch NBA at 18 years of age won’t watch NBA at 30-35 and up. The average NBA fan is young and African American. Other than that it’s a dead dog. Nobody else watches NBA except young African Americans. NBA has struggled ratings wise for most of last 20 years. Fact.

Grown men don’t follow NBA.

What about middle age and older African American men?

You think Asian Americans watch?

I know of a couple white fellas who sneak around and secretly watch too.

Fact is that NBA has struggled in ratings, attendance for last 20 years. Fact. Even the top 2 teams with the top players can’t grab huge ratings. It’s a dead dog. When Lethug James is old and gone soon the NBA won’t have any story lines. Even with him the NBA has stuggled ratings wise the last 20 years. Even with the top teams playing the NBA Finals ratings were down every game. Fact.

NBA has struggled ratings wise for last 20 years even with higher population in USA cities and overall. People are just not watching much. You won’t find an NBA conversation in America unless your in a African American barber shop. NBA fell 20 years ago. It’s a dead dog in 90% of America. Ask your self. Who do you know that cares or talks NBA nowadays?????? Hahaaaalol. Nobody!!!!!!!!!!

If it wasn’t Cleveland vs Golden State the ratings would be worse. The NBA had their biggest teams, top star players, story line and still had poor NBA finals ratings. That’s bad. Nobody likes NBA anymore.

Take NY, California out of the equation and the NBA has nothing. When Lethug leaves Cleveland the state of Ohio can be happy again cause they won’t have to watch or hear the childish, crap NBA. They can say thank you I no longer have to hear about this NBA nonsense. Ohio is all Ohio State regardless. College dominated Ohio.

I'm a father of 3, work 50 hours a week as a controller over a LARGE crane manufacturer, go to school for my MBA and I watch my Celtics when they are on. I'm not fitting your description at all.

I'm an 37 yr old black male w/ 2 kids and a wife. Behind all wvu sports, nba playoff basketball is my favorite sporting events to watch. I guess i kinda sorta don't fit 304s description either. Lol

He's a clown. Its funny that at one point he was stating that WVU needs to get away from white QB's. He's clinically insane I believe...

  • There goes your credibility. LeBron James, who has committed $50 million to ensure that Akron public schools graduates, regardless of their financial ability, will get a free University of Akron education as long as they keep up their grades and do good works in the community. Who every year provides 200 new bicycles for those who grew up in the projects, like him. "Lethug"? YOU are worse than a "lethug" for using that word about one of finest human beings in the NBA, on and off the court. Investigate before you make yourself look ignorant and hateful. All hail King James!!!!

I saw a poll recently that said kids' goals have changed. In my youth, kids wanted to be ball players, cops and firemen. The poll showed today they want to be singers, rock band members, actors, TV announcers and owners of businesses. Sports is down the list now.

Why the NBA has thrived as the NFL has declined

Today’s NBA is a professional-sports league on the rise. Its ratings on TNT are up 20 percent from last year. Its ratings on NBATV, the league’s cable channel, are up 20 percent. ESPN and ABC’s NBA ratings are up as well, and 17 out of 30 teams have seen improvements in their local markets. Taken in isolation, these numbers are impressive. Viewed in context, they’re breathtaking.

NBA rolls on. How? It’s a league that’s political, but it’s not defined by politics. Its stars can be controversial, but they’re not defined by controversy. It’s a league that’s learned to put the main thing — the game — front and center while respecting its players’ convictions and individuality.

NBA has embraced a “family” ethos within the league. The playerspublicly appreciate one another, and many have developed truly enjoyable social-media presences.

NBA’s appeal — its creative culture of fans and pundits — can be summed up in one show, TNT’s Inside the NBA. On some nights it’s arguably the funniest show on television.

That’s today’s NBA. That’s why it’s on the rise.

Here's how every NBA team makes it's money, visualized.

Bailey Brautigan and Nick DeSantis - Mar 21, 2016

New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers have a combined record of 72-95, but according to Forbes' latest team valuations, they have a combined worth of $5.7 billion and rank first and second respectively as the league’s most valuable teams. While on-court success can certainly increase a team’s value, the Knicks and Lakers prove that it’s not the only factor.

A team's total value is made up of four determining factors: Sport, Market, Arena and Brand.

Sport is the portion of a team's value attributable to revenue shared among all teams.

Market is the portion that comes from its city and market size (which determines the team's revenue per fan).

LOL this whole thread has gotten borrrrrrrring. Lets google some more facts and take it in another direction of "social commentary."

You can find a million articles also stating how bad the NBA ratings have been for last 20 years as well. A million articles stating how bad NBA ratings have been for last 20 years. The NBA Finals just had low ratings even with the 2 best teams and the best NBA players.

Cuyahuga Falls Eers c’mon man save it. Just hush about Lethug. Not to many grown men want to hear about your love for the NBA. Your the last fan left. Most grown men with a job don’t follow Lethug. Get over your self. Lethug wastes millions on clothes, groupies. Why not use some of that money to help poor kids more? He acts like he’s doing something with tax right offs. He’s a fraud like most wealthy people and entertainers. Guy will be on another team again next year. He ruined his legacy by losing so much on 10 different teams. Lethug and NBA is boring.

ESPN losing millions from bad TV deal with NBA. Going to get worse. Next TV deal will be much lower. It’s a disaster for ESPN.

Pro sports also needs to do something with the steroids, cheating. Too many illegal, banned performance enhancers being used by pro athletes. Lethug is also using a steroid form that will soon be banned. Many of these guys will fall without the steroid stuff. Lethug is doping.

Apr 11, 2018 - After hitting a record-low last season, ABC's NBA ratings returned to normal this year. Last weekend's Thunder-Rockets finale .

NBA regular season games averaged a 2.2 rating and 3.82 million viewers on ABC this year, up 16% in ratings and 17% in viewership from last year (1.9, 3.3M) but down a tick and 3% respectively from two years ago (2.3, 3.93M).

This season ranks as the second-most watched on ABC since 2012-13 (4.7M).

NBA Saturday Prime time averaged a 2.1 and 3.4 million (+15%) and the NBA Sunday Showcase averaged a 1.9 and 2.9 million (+23%).

While the NBA’s rising fortunes were the primary reason for the increase, ABC was also aided by a pair of scheduling changes. The network carried two fewer games this season than last, going dark on the first two weekends of the NCAA Tournament. In addition, it aired a third Christmas Day game this season.

NBA Finals ratings were not especially impressive in 2018, but the numbers were about as strong as one could expect given the sweep.

This year’s finals ranks as the lowest rated and least-watched since 2014, the last time the event did not pit Golden State against Cleveland (Spurs-Heat: 9.3, 15.5M).

It snapped a streak of three straight years in which the NBA Finals delivered its largest audience since 1998.

Of the 20 NBA Finals since 1998, this year’s series ranks 13th in ratings and eighth in viewership. With that said, it was the third-most watched NBA Finals through four games since 2001, behind last year (19.4M) and the first Warriors-Cavs matchup in 2015 (18.9M).

Compared to previous NBA Finals sweeps, this year’s series increased 61% in ratings and 90% in viewership from Spurs-Cavaliers in 2007 (6.2, 9.3M). That was the lowest rated and least-watched NBA Finals on record. Compared to Lakers-Nets on NBC in 2002, ratings fell 2% (from 10.0) but viewership increased 13% (from 15.7M).

Notably, this year marks the first time since 2009 that not a single basketball game — college or pro — attracted at least 19 million viewers.

NBA'S Television Ratings Are On A Huge Upswing.

With four distinctly compelling franchises — the Warriors, Rockets, Cavaliers, and Celtics — having either punched a ticket to the conference finals or on the verge of doing so — it’s reasonable to suggest that the best times are still to come for the NBA’s national and regional broadcast partners.

But times have already been pretty darn good this season.

The NBA’s television viewership during the regular season across its four national outlets — ESPN, TNT, ABC, and NBA TV — was up 8 percent from last season, per Nielsen data. That is a four-year high, with an average viewership per telecast of 1.28 million.

ABC, which carries games on Saturday nights and Sundays, had the biggest leap, up 17 percent. TNT saw a 13 percent increase. ESPN — which carried 87 games this season, its most yet — was up 4 percent, and NBA TV had a 1 percent uptick.

The local story is even more impressive. NBC Sports Boston, the regional cable network home of the Celtics, saw a 44 percent ratings increase this season over last, finishing with a 3.24, good for sixth overall in the NBA.

Game 3 of this year’s Finals brought in a total audience of 17.9 million sets of eyeballs watching on ABC on Wednesday night.

NBA Regular-Season Ratings Hit 4-Year High – Variety

The Stats say other wise pride304. I've looked for your so called drop on the internet and it's a no show. As stats show a drop but increased as the season went on. Even your so called age of the young are only ones watching. Stats show 18-49 year olds bring up the ratings.

Go back to your high school begging for WVU to recruit them all.

Perhaps 304 will shut his troll fingers.

Still can't understand your over the top passion for supporting a bunch of millionaires playing a kid's game in the big cities of the country. Save it for the Mountaineers. Pro sports are boring anymore anyway.

WVUallen your lost bud. The NBA has been dead for last 20 years. Nobody watches except you. Pro sports sucks. 40 of 50 states prefer college sports.

And this is true because you say it is true? I'm just asking because so far it seems like Allen is not just asking us to take his word for it and you are. I think the NBA is mostly garbage and uninteresting. I also think the same about most pop music, but I wont lie and say just because I think something is drivel that its therefore unpopular and uninteresting to a majority of people.

If 304 speaks it must be true...just ask him/she/it...
You forgot to put 'fact' at the end of your comment.

Of all the things to troll about this has to be one of the dumbest.

Good grief your trolling is worse than the Texas garbage that was here. Maybe that was you?

We get it you 304...you can't wait for all the pro leagues to die. We get it. now stfu about it.

This is a WVU board last time I checked.

Not supporting. Proving a point that pride304 has no clue what he is talking about.
