Only someone ignorant about football would say that the #1 reason WVU made a run at the Big 12 title for the first time was Will Grier. After all, 55 points against Oklahoma is more than Alabama could manage. Can we all agree that WVU is nothing more than an average-to-below-average team without Grier at QB. Next year with the same depth chart is downright terrifying.
But the Orlando fiasco also was due to NOT throwing the ball to Sills, as Grier did for 2 seasons, even with Sills was open. It was almost as if Allison was told to only throw to 2019 players.
If Sills were targeted more, WVU would have won the bowl game.
If Grier were there to throw to Sills, WVU would have won by 3 or 4 touchdowns.
Since Dana didn't even return to Morgantown with the team, maybe his mind was on the Houston job. Since Dana wouldn't hold up Shane Lyons for more money despite his career record at WVU, maybe not throwing to Sills was Dana's way of getting even with Shane? Who knows?
But the original theme, that Grier made WVU an excellent team this season, is true. That's no debating that. He did every bit as well as Geno and Pat did for WVU. And against Big 12 competition, too.
