I see where a bunch in a thread are saying they may drop their subscription...I get it

Because unlike in many years past and I've been on here for decades, a large percentage of you so called fans are simply batshit crazy to the max.
Very simply, if we would've played a different PA team other than #7 PSU on the road in front of 110000 things would be fine. Let's just say we played Temple for the opening game and won 45 -13, all you" far brown, he can't call plays cuz he sux," know nothing mf'ers would shut your piehole.
Did you notice like 7 of the top 10 did not play a Power 5 school? Did you also notice that Brown has had to face a rival in front of a sell out on the road the last 3 years. Do you see the competition most other P5 teams played? Our schedules look deliberately like they were set up for us to fail. at Maryland, at Pitt, at Penn State. A few years back Tennessee in Charlotte and a few more years back Alabama in Atlanta. We need warm up games like HOF coach Nehlen always played. Duquesne at least could've been first. It's the schedule dummies not play calling. You nits have been yelling about play calling starting with 13-9 and right on through Stew, Dana, Graham Harrell, Neil and whomever is next. We're running the same plays everybody else runs. The difference is not the X's and O's its the Jimmies and Joe's. Do you see Geno, Sills, Stedman, Tavon, Grier, Leddie, Kevin White, Pat White, Slaton ,Owen, Reynaud, and on and on running around out there? Do you know we were playing against a defense with 6-9 NFL draft picks. Do you think Donnie N. Would have HOF stats playing in the Big 12? Also notice who we get when big jobs come open.....like AD. Did we get Auburn or Purdue or Okie States AD come running at us, "pick me pick me?" No we got North Texas State. When basketball came open? Nope. And when football comes open again we'll get another up and comer like Neil Brown was and everybody loved the hire. Last question....when you take your taxes to your CPA or when you take your car to your mechanic or when you need your gall bladder out do you second guess your CPA, auto mechanic or surgeon? Well maybe some of you dummies do but most let the professionals who make a shit ton of money do their jobs. I do the same with my football coach. He makes $4 million, he knows waaaaayyy more than any of us about what to do. We all are novice know nothings. You hire a pro to do the job and you let him do it. He won't be fired during the season so stfu about that. And the next guy won't know anymore than he does just like the last 2 didnt. So can we all please just be fans and not wanna be coaches. Support the team and coach and I think they'll be surprisingly good in the next few years. Whew, that feels better. As always Let's Go Mountaineers!!!

WVSPORTS.COM Observations: West Virginia football at Penn State

–West Virginia hung around in this one running the football and playing some solid defense in some areas, but just didn’t have enough and didn’t create enough breaks to win this football game. It’s hard to win games against quality teams scoring 15 points and unable to make those big game changing plays at times. West Virginia was able to control the clock at times, average six yards per play on first down and move the ball, but couldn’t turn that into stringing drives together consistently. That was a talented football team, but there were definitely opportunities there for the Mountaineers and they just couldn’t capitalize on them. For the third straight season in a row, West Virginia has started on the road and lost against a power five opponent. Now, the challenge is going to be trying to show improvements moving forward. I don’t think anybody takes a ton of confidence out of this one but this team did fight although Penn State simply did big boy them in the second half. That’s how it goes from 14-7 to 38-15.

–West Virginia has now lost three of the first five games in Neal Brown season openers and while this team certainly fought at times there were some of the same frustrating issues. I’m not going to bury this team yet as the score came in right around where I thought it would in my prediction for this game (33-13, I believe) but this isn’t going to do anything to make things more comfortable for him. Looking around the Big 12 there are some teams that had disastrous week ones and while West Virginia certainly didn’t take any type of major step forward it did show they’re filling to fight on the road.

–West Virginia is now 9-49-2 against Penn State and last won in Beaver Stadium in 1954.

–On the plus side, West Virginia didn’t turn the ball over and had one procedure penalty (albeit a costly one wiping out a 15+ yard gain on illegal motion). They needed to not beat themselves to give themselves a chance in this one but they couldn’t make big plays in critical situations that was the true undoing. The Mountaineers were 4-14 on third down and 3-6 on fourth erasing some promising drives that ended up resulting in zero points. Those are major differences in this one.

–West Virginia struggled to throw the ball in this game. Take out the 37-yard completion to Devin Carter and the late drive the Mountaineers really couldn’t get anything going in the passing game. Redshirt junior Garrett Greene finished 16-27 for 162 yards but a lot of that came later. Now, yes, Greene was under pressure at times but he just simply misfired on some others, namely that fourth down throw early in the game to what could have been a huge gain to Traylon Ray. Truthfully Greene didn’t get a lot of help from his wide receivers either and while both Devin Carter and Kole Taylor had some big chunk plays at times there just wasn’t a consistent option that was getting open. I do think that there are definitely reasons to be excited about Greene but he needs to hit the layups.

--With that being said the Mountaineers need to get more play making out of their pass catchers. We've heard a lot about how the group was ready to take a leap and while you saw some flashes at times, it wasn't good enough albeit against a very good defense.

–Sophomore running back CJ Donaldson ran hard in this one and finished with 81 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. He was able to generate some nice gains in this one despite the limited role in the passing game. He runs the ball hard and is a load to tackle.

–West Virginia got better play than I expected out of the front seven, but the secondary struggled yet again. The two work in perfect harmony at times, but there weren’t even defenders in the same area on some of the touchdown tosses. Again, some of that is pressure not getting home or lack of it, but the Mountaineers simply didn’t get what they wanted out of that group. They also had chances to record a pair of interceptions and were unable to snag either of them. That group must play better because Penn State used a lot of rub routes and crossing patterns to get guys completely free.

–I didn’t expect that the longest run Penn State would have would be 14-yards and only have four runs that eclipsed 10-yards in total. But on the flip side of that, it was 9 (!) passing plays over 15+ yards including a 72-yard touchdown. I think it was a great test for the run defense though and the Mountaineers were up to the challenge for the most part. The Mountaineers did force only one three and out in this one and allowed touchdowns on 5-10 drives.

–On defense, senior linebacker Lee Kpogba was around the ball the entire game. He finished with 13 tackles and two tackles for loss but was able to get off blocks and make tackles in the hole. He definitely looked the part tonight and brought a lot of energy. Tray Lathan also had his moments with six tackles and a pair of quarterback hurries. That duo gave me some excitement moving forward.

–West Virginia had absolutely zero success with trick plays in this game outside the two point conversion. The Mountaineers went with one where it seemed the only people tricked were wearing white and gold with the wide receivers not even looking for the football and then on a fourth down late in the game there was a direct snap to Nicco Marchiol with Garrett Greee going in motion and the ball never left his hands as he was sacked. Both plays were head scratchers and the first one especially killed momentum as it led to a sack too. The second one somehow might have even been worse as it was essentially the last stand. Now, that two-point play reminiscent of the Kansas City Chiefs carousel play that scored this past season was interesting and worked. That’s the most important part of things.

–This game set the standard for most spectators ever at a game that West Virginia played in with 110,747 which created a major showcase for the program in the season opener. It was the fourth largest attendance in the history of Beaver Stadium.

–West Virginia was good when they got the red zone going 2-2 but the problem is it just didn’t happen enough. Penn State on the other hand was 4-5 and certainly looked the part.

–Thought Drew Allar was legit. He made a few poor decisions but moved well in the pocket, understood when and where to go with the football and flashed some serious arm talent. Penn State didn’t uncork him that much in this one but he made plays and West Virginia wanted to try to make him beat them which he did.

–Special teams all-around was solid. West Virginia had one bad punt from Straw but coverage was good in each phase and the punt coverage allowed just -2 yards. That is one overlooked area.

–Next up is Duquense and a chance to at least right the ship heading into the game against Pittsburgh. That game might be the biggest in Neal Brown’s tenure by far and not finding a way to win that game would be about as bad a start as you could imagine.

That other thread is gone but I agree with the guy that said the negativity here drains him.

This isn't a commentary on HCNB. Dislike him or want him gone if you like. But the relentless over the top negativity about it makes this place suck. I think it's partly a result of how things in society these days with social media and politics and everything being negative.

I want WVU to win but win or not, I like FOLLOWING WVU SPORTS! That means talking about the players and the games and the coaches and everything related. Information and analysis and opinion are all more interesting than endless complaining.

It's kinda like with a spouse. Do you want one that says interesting, insightful stuff or do you want one that is complaining incessantly?

There should be more analysis of actual game plays on here. What happened on a particular play. Maybe post a video of the play and say "It looks to me like X happened on this play. What do you think?" Then someone else notices something else and mentions it and it starts a whole discussion. Yadda yadda.

I don't know. There's gotta be something better than just endless complain. How about content? I read recently PFF grades for players in the PSU-WVU game. That was interesting. It about about how players actually performed instead of just "Brown sucks, fire him" over and over.

Working on a new song, just need help with the words.

I’ve been sellin’ my soul, rooting every damn day
Trusting the climb but seeing bullshi* play
So I can sit out here and waste my life away
Drag back home and drown my troubles away

It’s a damn shame what WVU’s gotten to
For people like Vernon and people like you
Wish I could just wake up and it not be true
But it is, oh, it is

Livin’ in the Neal world
With an old soul

(apologies. Out sick with covid and too much time on my hands today)
