No question is dumb but this may qualify….

So…WV increased its payout from the B12 when joining. This was money that we never had before…and I know wvu academic side is not re-imbursing the athletic scholarships like they used to prior to Gee. Can the increase not be used to help with coaches salaries, buyouts, etc? What about the increase in revenue from beer sales we heard about? I must assume that some went to pay lyons remaining salary? But could we not leverage other things to get loans possibly like the B12 has considered as well? Look at our own Gov with what he has done with the capital investment firms… Just trying to see where the money is going….there is an old saying (and I am old) where there is a will there is a way….we had a budget of 9-10 million and made it work. Why not now…why not us? The man needs to move along and we need a change. Jmo.

since we are at/rapidly approaching the point of no return, if Brown were to find a lower level job like a Southern Miss, is it probable Wren and Co. would knock down the payment due to WVU to buy him out so much that Brown could easily take a job like that?

I think the answer would be yes but just thinking through all the possible situations where our financial burden could be eased. Then again, Brown isn’t financially incentivized to proactively take a lower level job. But it may be his only option to stay at the HC level immediately.

The offensives injuries…

Why can’t we be the physical defense that knocks opposing players out of games?

We are -7 in turnover margin. Yes GG has thrown more INTs but the defense has been embarrassingly bad at takeaways for multiple seasons.

We have safeties playing that in week 7 still can’t figure out their basic zone assignments that my son in high school knows.

Our senior DL that is a multi-year starter can’t tackle when he has the QB dead in his grasp.

Why is our coordinator still employed at this point in the season? After his prior track record?

It’s like Wren and Brown have quit too. Why shouldn’t the fans?

Buy outs….

Buy outs are a gimmick that were brought into existence, by agents, to give an illusion of security.

A buy out is nothing more than a dividend on a coach, for agent. Think about it, if Neal was a perpetual 10 win guy, would $10MM stop a Blue Blood from getting him? The answer is, no. Similarly, is Neal worth another $10MM to WVU to get him out of the program? The answer is again, No!

Then, ask yourself this, would Neal have turned down an offer for $4MM per year if there was no buyout in his contract? If you tell me yes, I suggest the coach didn’t have the confidence he would succeed.

At the end of the day, we should not include buyout language in any contract. It’s nothing more than a dividend for an agent if the coach fails. Until WVU is considered a blue blood, there is no point in a buy out.

This is miserable.
