Morning After Thoughts…

1) That’s the best team we’ll face all season with high draft picks on both sides of the ball and we competed (for the most part). Had some good stops on D and held their running game, which was supposed to be prolific, mostly in check. Gameplan was to force their young, yet extremely talented, QB to make plays and he had playmakers all over to help him do so.

2) We didn’t turn it over one time and had opportunities to turn them over (dropped 2 INTs in the first half🤦🏻‍♂️)

3) The run game looked good at times! CJ is a BEAST and we’ve got some depth there. Would love to see more 2 RB sets than 2 TE sets…

4) We didn’t have any stupid timeouts. PSU did though!😂 I read Franklin’s lips after they called a timeout off a kickoff and he screamed into his headset “That’s f^£|ing embarrassing…” felt good to NOT be us for a change

5) We threw passes to a big bodied TE on multiple occasions. I’d like to see that stay in the gameplan going forward

6) Any other positives to be added? These are my hazy Sunday AM thoughts so they’re incomplete to say the least…

Overall, this went about as expected with a “2014 Alabama” vibe. A competitive 1 possession game at the half, and then the depth of talent started to separate the game in the second half. We played a DEEPLY talented team with All Americans and future NFL players on the road on national TV, and now have the experience of being on THAT stage. This was going to be a learning experience any way you look at it and I’d like to think we’ll learn from it and improve. We have our tune up game next Saturday and then sPitt the week after. I’ll see y’all there!😎🤙🏻

Let the season play out

First off, no one is more disappointed than me over the past several years. The offense is boring, the secondary has been brutal and we haven’t had one player who people would come to see play. I get that, but for this season let’s see how the 1st 4 weeks play out before cancelling the season. Am I frustrated? Heck yeah. I spent 1000.00 for one day to go to the Penn State game. I will be at every home game win or lose , i honestly think this team will win 8 games. You might call me crazy but on the schedule do you mark as an automatic L? I had two before the season and that was Penn State and at Oklahoma. The other losses were UCF and TCU. Again, besides Duquesne there are no automatic wins either. I always said I didn’t want us to be BC, Syracuse, Ga Tech and etc. I know we’re trending in that direction, but let’s see the record after September. Just my two cebts

Trump is liable in the second E. Jean Carroll defamation case, judge rules

CNN Politics

“The finding is a significant blow to Trump, who is facing numerous criminal indictments and civil lawsuits -- many of them coming to a head as he embarks on a presidential campaign.

Judge Lewis Kaplan said that a federal jury's verdict earlier this year against Trump will carry over to the defamation case set to go to trial in January involving statements Trump made in 2019 about Carroll's sexual assault allegations.”

And Trump loses once again. Poor Don the Con!

WVU Release WVU Men's Soccer: Mountaineers Vault onto National Stage

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Sept. 6, 2023) With a 4-0 start to the 2023 campaign, the West Virginia University men’s soccer team has begun to garner national recognition, coming in at No. 16 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll.

Additionally, senior Yutaro Tsukada earned a spot on the College Soccer News Team of the Week while junior Carlos Hernando was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week.

In two games last week against Bucknell and Yale, Tsukada collected six points, tallying a goal and an assist in each contest. His penalty kick against the Bulldogs proved to be the game-winner.

Hernando is the only Mountaineer field player to play every minute this season through four games. Against Bucknell and Yale, his strong defensive play from his center back position contributed to two shutouts and just one shot on goal in two matches.

Sophomore Marcus Caldeira also has been on a tear to begin the season as he is tied for the NCAA lead with five goals, having scored in all four matches thus far.

The Mountaineers enter the rankings for the first time since Sept. 6, 2022, when they were slotted at No. 23.

The next two opponents for West Virginia feature a pair of top-10 teams as No. 3 Portland comes to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET, before the Mountaineers head to Orlando to take on No. 6 UCF and open Sun Belt play on Friday, Sept. 15.

Seemingly huge changes to accounting laws

I don't know all the specifics here but this is something I will be following closely

A bit delusional...

ON MISSED OPPORTUNITIES...

"We had a chance to win. We come out and get a three-and-out and it's 14-7 and we get a three-and-out and we get an explosive run and we got a procedure penalty... I thought we had a chance to win. I know we have a good football team. This is a tough place to play. All your preparation is really sped up because of dealing with the sound but i felt good coming in. I knew we would have to get some breaks -- they were going to have to turn it over, they were going to have to get some penalties. Here's the thing, we had some opportunities. I think we had two balls bounce off our chest and so those our plays, they're missed opportunities, you got to make those."

They would NEVER win in Happy Valley with those current respective rosters, game after game, with our current defensive secondary and lack of ability at QB and WR. We would lose 10 out of 10, unless we win the turnover battle by +3. Tying it up midway through the game would still not have equaled a win once PSU started to exert their will. The better talent (and being at home) allowed them to run a pretty vanilla, methodical game plan with zero anxiety or worry. At no point were they remotely concerned or flustered about much of anything we were doing. Did anyone inform him we lost by 23 and that was WITH their kicker missing 2 FG's?

Definitely seems like part coach speak and part job posturing.

Let's see how they do against more mediocre teams the rest of the way.

Neal Brown ranting about the schedule again

"I asked WVU HC Neal Brown if he would rather have the FCS game start the season. He then went into more of a scheduling rant: “My issue with our schedule isn’t when we play teams. My issue with our schedule is we’ve opened on the road three straight years. That’s not smart scheduling.” He then added about WVU playing 11 Power programs and how that’s not what other Power program are doing."

Stats after week 1…

For the stat heads. Can’t really tell much after one game at the #7 team in the country.

My take-

With the run game and using tempo, think we are going to definitely need ppg up to be somewhat competitive in league play..Rushing offense definitely needs to go up. Passing yards allowed piss poor. Getting really sick of that crap especially to a first year starter. Ridiculous..

Total defense 112
Total offense 75
First downs defense 110
First downs offense 108
Passing yards per reception 96
Passing yards allowed 114
Rushing offense 69
Rushing defense 89
Passing offense 101
Turnover margin 75
4th down percentage 50
Red zone defense 70
Ypp 75 at 4.4 (better than I actually thought)
Ppg 42 at 70 against PSU.
