WVSPORTS.COM Postgame players press conference summary

QB Garrett Greene is up first.

-- Greene needed to get on page with the WRs, and he needs to focus on getting them ready faster. Felt like he's been throwing well and this was the first game where he was comfortable from the start in the pocket. The coaches kept them focused with the game plan during the long break.

-- Team didn't have the best start, but come out of the break guns blazing. it was good for everyone to reset so they could play their style of football.

-- Greene couldn't be happier Hudson Clement to make some plays tonight and he's a special ball player for Greene.

-- Moments like Clement getting on scholarship are some of the best moments on the team and Greene is really happy for Clement. Greene says he needs more focsu and attention to detail to "make his layups" and that's up to him

--Greene think it'll be a good one on Saturday as long as they plan like they have the last two weeks and he needs to get the guys going early.

-- It's important to Greene to stay after practice to build chemistry and watch more film to prepare the best. The coaches and players responded well to the adversity and now its onto next week.

-- There's more motivation next week for Pitt and Greene believes that he's grown up around here in West Virginia. We don't like them and they don't like us.

Postgame Neal Brown press conference summary

-- Thought the players handled the break well and these games are important to see a lot of guys play. Some showed they can play and some showed they're not ready. Duquesne was not intimidated tonight and they've got some good talent. Brown is proud of his guys and winning is hard.

-- Devin Carter got stepped on in practice, didn't look good in pregame so they decided to sit him out. Clement started in his place and stepped up with his newfound opportunity and he's on scholarship now following the game.

-- WVU needs to be better in the secondary, need to go back to the drawing board. Held some stuff back with Pitt coming up. WVU needs to make plays when its time to make plays, he's extremely frustrated with giving up big passing plays. Seems to accurate in the deep balls and wants to call more of them.

-- Coaching staff just left the players alone during the break and held a meeting with the coaches. The warm up process starts inside and moved to the field. The players were challenged in the locker room and were good at facing that adversity. There were frustrating moments but the adversity wasn't a bad thing. The hope that in the long term these guys can have that energy and learn from the adversity. The score ended up where it needed to be, but it wasn't pretty early.

-- Preston Fox lacked some urgency early, Garrett Greene threw the deep ball well today and Fox made a play on a ball that was meant for him. Brown was pleased that Fox bounced back in the game.

-- Brown believes that Greene made some good plays in last season's K-State game, but he still needs to hit his layups and he was better today. Threw the deep ball better today than he had in any game.

-- Jahiem White and DJ Oliver have a bright future and performed tonight. Justin Johnson Jr. was banged up and couldn't play tonight. Rodney Gallagher is getting better and getting playing time, he'll play good football here to Brown. Brown was pleased over with Gallagher.

--Traylon Ray was out tonight and was dealing with an injury in practice with minimal practice. They chose to shut him down and give him a break for today's game. Hopeful back on Monday. Straw also turned his ankle in today's game but they'll see tomorrow. TE Kole Taylor will get more involved and WVU plans to continue to use him and make plays for him.

-- Nicco Marchiol was juiced early and then calmed down. Made some great throws on the run and Brown thought he was locked in and ready to play. They haven't been consistent enough at WR but the talent is there. Carter has been good but he needs some help and have other guys step up too. Ray will play and Clement and Gallagher have earned playing time. Clement will get opportunities against other competition, and he's physically ready, he's usually made some mistakes but didn't tonight.
