Per CBS. Lincoln Riley was first and Matt Campbell fourth.

10. Neal Brown (41), West Virginia

11-11 (.500) in two seasons: Coming off his first winning season as a Power Five coach (4-2 including a Liberty Bowl win), Brown still has tons of upside. He is still averaging almost eight wins per season and has won at Nebraska and LSU in his career. The scoring defense (20.5) was the best in a decade at West Virginia. 2020 ranking: 10

Pretty impressive for a .500 coach to be #10 in the country among newcomers. Sure hope he lives up to the billing. I'm hopeful. But I always am once they wear the blue and gold. Jury still is out for me, mainly because 2 years isn't enough to prove good or bad. By 4th year there's pretty much a pattern and the new coach has recruited pretty much everyone on the team so that he has the type of player he wants. As always, I look forward to my 2 season ticket seats in Mountaineer Field for my 31st year. Damn pandemic ended my streak of 30 straight seasons with only 2 absences, one an ice storm that wrecked about 50 cars on I-79 and my Rivesville sister called me to turn back and go home. My daughter and I were near Youngstown at the time. It's a 3.5-hour drive each way between Tallmadge, Ohio and Morgantown. Usually eats up 13 hours every time I go to a game in Mountaineer Field. I love it! Best sports bargain in my life!

You two bicker like an old married couple.
Keep it in private. None of us want to hear it.
Only thing we want to hear is Who wear's the pants and Who wear's the panties?

Congratulations coach Brown. Let's keep the improvement growing.

All haters root, buck, eers and vault may now reply with their hate post.

For any idiot this applies to...I want to see Brown succeed because that means the Mountaineers did as well. I support the whole program not the coach du jour. Results...as in mediocre on field performance...mass exodus of players...racial turbulence between players and staff...and a general failure of wrestling control from AD and worse...the university's rising Woke culture...doesn't give myself or a hell of a lot of folks around the program a lot of hope. Refuse to continue pretending that almost is good enough. If a C grade made you proud...then that's your problem. Annual hope and giddiness for 7-5 season is for losers in life.

Rootmaster is a racist and a problem for any coach at WVU trying to recruit. Instead of worrying about players having the same rights as everyone else in society you should worry about people like him trying to choke off rights of everyone but himself.

Brown is living off lots of wins in a lower G5 conference. Has not shown he can deliver success at WVU. Two five win regular seasons does not indicate coaching greatness.

Holgorsen just praying he can make it through another 4-8 season at the G5 level. Until then STFU.

Holgorsen coaches Houston. Brown coaches WVU.

I'm a WVU fan, so I'm concerned with how the coach at WVU is doing.

When Holgorsen was at WVU, he was the second best coach in the history of the program.

Brown to date is the second worst ever.

You are no WVU fan. You are nothing but a hating troll seeking attention. Holgorsen 2nd best. You're a dumbass. Brown to date is superior to your lover.

You can also add that he is a delirious, small-minded individual who gets his kicks out of throwing turds in the punch bowl while building up his elitist, I,m right and your wrong ego. I,m done with bucky.

We saw the delirious, small minded individuals that chased away the second best coach in WVU history. But hey, Brown moved up after the bowl from second worst ever to fourth worst ever, so that's something for you to thump your chest about. (I think they added a coach or two to the list).

Still wondering where that "anyone" is that can "walk in and immediately do better" than the previous staff?

How good was your lover after 2 years in Big 12? Nobody chased off former staff. He was also second in most losses by a WVU head coach.

What makes you think anyone can walk in after current staff and do better.

DH went 4-8 in his 3rd year. The year after he lost the INHERITED Trifecta of Geno, Steady Stedman, & Austin, also the year after he lost to Syracuse in a bowl game(the first time) only scoring 14 points.

He also has 7 wins in his first Two years in Houston, where he inherited a Heisman caliber Dual Threat QB that he ran off..

FACT: DH had 2 10 win seasons in 8 years. 1 of which with players he actually recruited. That was his ceiling, once in every 5 years we may be better then average. DH sacrificed long term & consistent program growth to "Go win some games, by grabbing every decent JUCO player he could. That is chopping off your face to spite your nose. Its a short term strategy and destined for mediocrity.

When you account for the two likely wins that COVID removed from Neal Brown's record, not to mention the two games played that was lost due to missed goalline PI & a Sam James fumble... Even if you just look at the 2 wins COVID removed Brown is ahead of Matt Campbell which is uniformly considered one of the best coaches in D1. NB is also uniformly considered one of the better coaches under 45 and in all of D1. Does his current win/loss record reflect his quality or the direction of the program??? HELL NO...

The overall talent levels in the 2020 & 2021 classes are just the first two classes and already have higher upside then the last 3-4 classes under DH... In fact, NB in just his second year, recruited the highest rated class, per player average rating basis in WVU history.

WVU was statistically the most improved team in all of D1 last year. Wins/Losses are far from the only data points that measure a coaches quality in the 1st qtr of a build game.

Why is he allowed here? Is this not a WVU board, for WVU fans? Pitt or Marshall Trolls WVU has a far better coach or possibly Logan jealous WVU traded up, or DH's cocaine dealer mad he lost his golden goose.

DH is a quality OC, when he has a certain type of Heisman Caliber QB. He's not HC material, he's not a "Program & Culture Builder". He had 8 years...... 8 YEARS... Move on Bruh.. Trying to compare NB to DH is like comparing Army Offense Concepts to Pro Schemes... When you look at factors, aside from wins/losses, esp considering COVID reduced NB's record by 2 wins.... As a data scientist you analyze every possible variable & data point to determine outcomes/probabilities/quality. This is the first time since RichRod we are united behind our HC, and some BS a bitter Troll living in his mom's basement working at 7/11 is not going to sway our support for our current staff.

If you notice, he never responds with regard to DH's record in Houston, he never responds to getting smacked by Syracuse in every bowl game, esp the last one which was the team NB inherited - David Sills, Kenny Robinson, Marcus Simms, and a couple other players who transferred or was caught cheating..

Considering the state of the program, I can argue DH left it in far worse condition then what he inherited, from a talent perspective. NB did not inherit Will Grier, Gary Jennings, David Sills, David Long, Kenny Robinson, Marcus Simms, Yodney Cajuste, Trevon Wesco, etc... DH threw all his chips on that year and due to inept coaching in November(as always), he lost his chance to win that big one... Which is a shame, because I feel that 2018 team when they was on, could have beaten OU in the Big12 Championship game. That said, im thankful everything happened as it did, because now we have a coach who is building for long term & consistent success and not a mediocre program with maybe a chance every 5 years.

3-4 years from now, when NB has played and/or won a Big12 Championship, they'll still be on here saying he should be fired. These Trolls will do & say anything to try to incite negativity & division, they probably watch CNN & MSNBC all day.. It would not surprise me at all.. Tactics the CIA deployed for the logically challenged foreign population... Haha, CNN still deploys it for our own logically challenged population..

IT REQUIRES 5 YEARS...... 5 YEARS before you really begin to see major improvements / steps forward. That said, we should see improvement yr to yr, which we have absolutely seen. NB has already beaten a ranked team, as a unranked opponent, already has a bowl win, already has recruited the highest ranked class in WVU history, already recruited an Elite11 QB out of HS(Something the previous staff never did). The one issue I had with DH, to be such an offensive guru, he never recruited a Blue Chip HS QB, one that actually was decent anyway... His talent evals at QB was miserable... William Crest, Ford Childress, He can really spin it, etc...

Its hysterically hilarious this troll thinks anyone believes anything he says... There is nothing he says rooted in logic & reality. Its so hilarious, I actually think he is a rivals employee that intentionally trolls forums to keep the users engaged as it helps site revenues...

Why don't you try winning percentage and see if he stays 'second best'?

And who are small minded individuals that chased him away? Love to know the answer to that.

Not a chance in hell DH was worth a 5 year, 20 million dollar guaranteed contract. Hence, no one ran him off. He would've been stupid not to take the Houston job as no sane AD would guarantee that much to a guy with his track record.

Poorly coached football team. Watch Houston.
They were even better than BYU. Should have won that game as well.

Do you understand a team that isn't living up to the talent.

Losing games that you had the better of play consistently.

Way too many mistakes and errors.

They have to cut down their turnovers. Research the # of TOs by 2020 Houston Cougars Football

Compare that to Neal Brown

He is winning games he should for the most part. Losing games he should.

So the question becomes about talent

Watch the spring game.
Look at the players who just entered the program and ones that have been in here for a couple of years

The question becomes can Neal Brown improve the talent.
So far I say he can

EXactly TVZ... If DH left the program with such an amazing abundance of talent to deploy, why has Neal Brown been forced to play largely True Freshmen, Redshirt Freshman, & Sophomores the first couple of years??

That tells me the players Brown is recruiting have far superior upside, and the possible difference in player productivity is not worth the price of getting the young players experienced. Which further increases their upside when they are Juniors & Seniors. Its a long term strategy, maybe you have to sacrifice a little now, by not filling every possible spot with a JUCO kid, but actually developing a player in our system, culture, & program for far higher Dividend$...

WVU was LITERALLY one of the youngest teams in all of D1 in 2019... Such extreme youth & inpexerience does not magically resolve itself in just 1-2 years.

Again, there is no way these trolls are WVU fans, Im seriously considering they are Rivals employees that have fake accounts with the explicit purpose of inciting program fanbases to increase website traffic. That or, they seriously live in their moms basement after failing out of Marshall or Pitt, and dont have a life but to seek to antagonize for the sake of attempting to stoke division. Its blatantly obvious, they have some agenda here, and its not to discuss or support WVU football.
