Buchanan Featured on Commemorative Canadian Stamp

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 29, 2015) – West Virginia University sophomore Kadeisha Buchanan is featured on a commemorative stamp in celebration of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

A native of Brampton, Ontario, Buchanan, a defender, is highlighted alongside Canadian teammate Christine Sinclair and Japanese goalkeeper Ayumi Kaihori.

Named to the Canadian World Cup roster Monday, Buchanan and WVU classmate Ashley Lawrence are the first active WVU women’s soccer players named to a national World Cup squad.

A fixture on the Canadian Women’s National Team for the last two years, Buchanan, the two-time reigning Canadian U-20 Player of the Year, has started all but three of her 34 matches with the team. She was a 2015 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy semifinalist. Additionally, Buchanan has collected NSCAA All-America honors in her first two seasons at WVU, including first-team accolades this past season, and has been named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year twice.

The stamp, issued across Canada on May 6, also is available for pre-orders online at CanadaPost.com.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada opens on June 6, with the championship match scheduled for July 5. The contests will be played throughout Canada, with the Canadians’ opening match against China PR set for Saturday, June 6, at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta. The team will continue Group A play against New Zealand on June 11, also at Commonwealth Stadium, before meeting The Netherlands on June 15 at Olympic Stadium, in Montreal, Quebec.

Thank you for posting V! [thumb2]...We are quite proud of Ms. Buchanan up here...as I know WVU is too! This is an amazing double whammy for this fella...the stamp is ordered....NOW...If only we can convince some of our football/basketball recruiters to push a bit harder north of the border( prep schools are opening up all over the place, a big one in St. Catherine's Ont now for football). Syracuse has been mining the Quebec pipeline,Baylor has found this Ontario pipeline over the last few years with several starting linemen, and top propect Gallimore commiting to the Sooners this year....
