WVU Release WVU Baseball - Mountaineers Falter at Charlotte in Series Finale

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb. 25, 2024) The West Virginia University baseball team dropped a 6-5 decision to Charlotte at Hayes Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Mountaineers fall to 4-4 while the 49ers improve to 4-4.



Sophomore Skylar King and junior Kyle West each had two hits and two RBI on the day for WVU. King also added three stolen bases for the Mountaineers.,



On the mound, sophomore Carson Estridge got the start and went 5.0 innings with three strikeouts while allowing just one run.



After a scoreless first, West got the Mountaineers on the board in the second with a two-run single.



Charlotte got a run back in the fourth, but the Mountaineers answered in the fifth on an RBI single from sophomore Logan Sauve. King extended the WVU lead in the seventh with a two-run single to take a 5-1 lead.



In the eighth, the 49ers got to the WVU bullpen for five runs with the big hit being a sun-aided bases loaded triple to put Charlotte out in front.



The Mountaineers could not respond in the ninth, going down in order to end the game.
