Why do the Dems continue

GOP just had their first one last night ... and this morning the Dems are delaying theirs. LOL
The same article indicates Bernie Sanders expressed some concerns with the schedule:

The DNC’s plan drew criticism from Democratic presidential contender Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who urged Wasserman Schultz to accelerate the schedule and start debates during the summer, as well as to consider including Republican contenders. “I believe we need to go beyond the bounds of traditional party debates,” Sanders wrote in a letter.
It's understandable Sanders would want more debates given that national media exposure likely benefits him and any candidates not named Hillary Clinton. She already has worldwide name recognition, is a clear front-runner in the polls, and presumably has the most to lose by getting on the debate stage. Some Democrats have suggested the DNC is protecting Clinton by sanctioning only six debates.

In response to Sanders' request, a DNC spokeswoman reiterated on June 1 that the committee would continue with the six-debate framework and said more details would be provided "in the coming weeks.”

It's nearly the end of July, how many more weeks do we have to wait before we find out when our candidates are going to have their first debate? And how many of them will be eliminated based on the DNC's arbitrary threshold?
And what is this about "Some Democrats have suggested the DNC is protecting Clinton by sanctioning only six debates"?

That question led me to the article by Business Insider titled, Clinton rival accuses Democrats of rigging debate schedule to help Hillary A snippet from that article:

One Democratic 2016 campaign adviser who spoke to Business Insider said they believe the Democratic National Committee’s debate schedule was “worked out” to benefit Hillary Clinton and hurt her opponents.
The adviser, who requested anonymity in order to speak frankly about the party’s campaign arm, suggested the DNC is hosting a small number of debates in an attempt to give Clinton’s more low profile rivals “less screen time.” They also suggested the relatively late schedule of the debates will make it harder for Clinton’s lesser known rivals to introduce themselves to voters.

“I want to say right off the bat here to those in Washington who think they can limit the number of debates that we’re going to have before the Iowa caucuses, can circle the wagon and close off debates, I think they’re going to have another thing coming when they talk to the people of Iowa,” O’Malley said in the first minutes of his speech at the opening of his campaign office.

The number of unsanctioned debates has risen in recent election cycles, but the DNC this year has insisted on candidates signing an exclusivity clause. That means any candidate who participates in an unofficial debate would be barred from one that is party-sanctioned.

The former Maryland governor told reporters Wednesday that his campaign staff has been in conversations with DNC officials about concerns, “but it seems not to be heard,” he said.

“I think it’s outrageous frankly that anyone in the Democratic Party would think it’s their job to tell the people of Iowa or New Hampshire or any state that they’re not allowed to have presidential debates,” he said. “It runs counter to everything that we believe as a country … I’ll let other candidates decide whether they want to be part of that other approach, that exclusive approach to politics.”

to delay their debate?
Perhaps the reason the Republicans started their debates so early is that they have so many candidates and need to start (trying) to eliminate some of them though I'm not sure that is the intent at all. I doubt that I'll watch any by either party so it really doesn't make much difference to me how many either party have or when they start having them.

The election is 15 months away ... I don't see how anybody can consider the debates being purposefully delayed.

I have said over and over that I find Hilary utterly loathesome, but this idea that everything is being aligned by everybody to benefit her is getting tiresome.

I think having debates now would actually help her because it would make it harder for anybody else to enter the race.

At least two of the DNC's candidates feel that the debates are being delayed to protect Hillary. Are they idiots for thinking that way?

I actually think there is some merit to the protection of Hillary by DWS for obvious reasons. O'Malley and Sanders have both publicly expressed their frustrations.

Last night's debate was late in the game compared to the last Presidential election.

The Dems are delaying theirs to protect Hillary.

I think they are. I may be alone in that thinking, but the election is 15 MONTHS AWAY. The attention span of the populace is so short that hardly anybody will remember what was said now come election time anyway.

I certainly understand them being anxious to debate her because I think she will get crushed. However, I also question how much difference it will make anyway. I'd say that the vast majority of the people that are planning on voting for Hilary now won't be swayed by much of anything. The only difference it will make will be with those that haven't made up their minds yet and there's still PLENTY of time for that.

I'd say it's probably the same for the majority of the GOP candidates from last night. I'll be interested to see the next poll numbers and see how much difference this debate made.

Why does Hillary want to expose herself to debates? She has such substantial lead that she doesn't need the exposure, She would be totally satisfied to share an hour with the other candidates just making closing statements about themselves.

On the other hand, if Uncle Joe gets in and takes the lead, she would insist on at least one debate per month or preferably per week. Those in the lead would like to have the game called while they are leading. Not complicated.
