It is becoming more and more obvious to me. The 2016 election was TOO GOOD for ratings. Profits must have been tremendous. CNN, MSNBC, ABC News loved Trump and sensationalized everything he did before it became obvious he was going to win the nomination and then fanned the anti-trump story. Fox, Breitbart, and other right leaning sites gashed Clinton and finally killed her chances. Everyone was winning. Everyone was cashing in. The election ended....how do they now keep the cash flowing? It is obvious. Both sides must sensationalize everything to maintain that rating number, revenue stream, and relevance.
Both sides do it. CNN and MSNBC spin and magnify everything Trump does. He is incompetent enough without the sensationalism. He will eventually kill his own presidency. Yet, CNN ran the same stories over and over basically claiming Trump supported the White Nationalist. Fox does the same from the other side. They can't slam the dems specifically so they are going after the far left. I am sitting here right now looking at CNN.com and Foxnews.com. On Fox there is an video linked from a Mark Steyn that says "The left want to tie all republicans to Nazis." Blatantly not true. This is opinion on the news page. Sensationalism on par with MSNBC (See Rachel Maddow). Most of my immediate family is republican and maybe one might be "alt-right." Many are evangelical Christians. All are hardworking mainstream Americans that just happen to be conservative in their values, and fiscally or socially conservative. Most dems would never link 95% of them to anything Nazi or anything evil.
Just to right of that video is one from the beautiful but talentless Tomi Lahren. Her video is titled "The left is normalizing police hatred." Sure some on the far-left or "hard-left" hate police, but mainstream democrats sure don't. Hell, most dems would tell you that they ought to lock up any bastard that attacks an officer and many, if not most, would favor the death penalty in capital murder convictions for cop killers. CNN has an opinion linked on their front page from a Fareed Zakaria about today's elites. Why is not labeled as opinion? Obviously these pieces are not news, yet the outlets parade them on their front page as if Tomi Lahren's voice is somehow linked to coherent thought, analysis, and real news.
So why the sensationalism? Profit pure and simple. Why do both sides accept this ridiculous reporting of opinion pieces as the "news"? Maybe Bannon is a genius because he tapped into the anger of the Alt-Right and provided the outlet that made him both wealthy and relevant. Maybe Soros realized that stirring radical liberalism was his ticket to global relevance? Nevertheless, we all need to push back on this irresponsible reporting and demand that the news be treated as the news with proper constraint shown when it comes to right and left bias. But we don't. We can't. People on both sides eat it up, click the bait, and make money for the real pot-stirrers in America, the media. Just this past week, Rush Limbaugh said we are headed for civil war.....as a child of the 60's, how quickly he forgets (he didn't) how much more volatile the 60's were than today. We have had a handful of violent demonstrations since Ferguson. In the 60's, they happened regularly whether related to Civil Rights, Vietnam, or other social causes. Blacks, hippies, draft protestors were beaten, jailed, Same for the violent labor riots, women's suffrage movement, and the KKK marches of the 20s and 30s. Damn you Rush Limbaugh and others for fanning discontent for the benefit of your ratings. The media understand sensationalism is good for business and therefore profits. The idiot monolithic thinkers can't get enough of it. The masses stay silent. We all pay.
