—Tough place to go into and win at TCU and he’s really proud of the staff and players for the response over the past two weeks. The keys to the win was turnover margin with three takeaways and they really were actual takeaways because they made it happen. Rushing was the second with how effectively they moved the ball on the ground and third was they ran 70 plays and had the ball for 35 minutes. They were able to convert on third and fourth downs to have more plays. On special teams, Brown was proud of Casey Legg. He was great on field goals and saved them with his field goals. On special teams they just weren’t very good overall outside Legg. It wasn’t a clean game there. Defensively they had a great plan. They were one of the top statistical teams in the conference on offense and the Mountaineers responded. The two running backs are special and the tackling and communication was at a much higher level. Offensively it was the best rhythm they’ve had. One sack and only a few TFLs but the interior three linemen played their best game. Mathis gave them a big lift off the bench and they had zero three and outs. They have to get better at scoring touchdowns though.

—Casey Legg was special teams player of the week. Defensive player was Charles Woods. Leddie Brown was the offensive player of the week. Offensive lineman was Zach Frazier and has just played really well. Blue collar award was Mike O’Laughlin and defensively was Josh Chandler. Scout team were Markquan Rucker, Quay Mosby and Caleb Coleman.

—Iowa State is playing their best football of the year. It was a big win for them Saturday against Oklahoma State. They are sound in every phase of the game and on special teams. Offensively they do a nice job with their scheme and have a lot of two tight ends and a fullback. It’s a veteran group. They have eight seniors and four juniors on offense in key spots. Offensive line is physical and do a good job as a unit on what they’re asked to do. On defense it‘a a unique scheme and the whole premise is to get eight sets of eyes that can see you at all times. 7 seniors, 2 juniors and 2 sophomores on the defensive side. What makes them great on defense is their defensive line. They have two NFL players up there. Mike Rose is special at linebacker for them. It’s a defense deal that is playing well. Hopefully fans will show up in big numbers and there are plenty of reasons to be here.

—Brown said that they had the intention to run the football and did a good job not getting in bad down and distances. They had an intentional measure to go and run the football. They had good counters off their counters. Streamlining the play calling wasn’t much different than it has been but the players played with a lot of confidence.

—Brown has a group of offensive people that he talks to a lot that he leans on. During the bye week he talked to those people more because some are retired and some are out but they also have good resources in the building. They were more centered on the schemes that they were going to go into it with. Gerad Parker and Sean Reagan were in the press box and had a great feel and they had more input.

—Woods has been playing and stepped up the level of competition and is getting more comfortable in the scheme. You could see him getting better and they played him more. He made the most of his opportunities.

—Akheem Mesidor will be fine and practiced yesterday but they’ll go down to Saturday on Nicktroy Fortune. They’ll cross train guys in the secondary and if he can’t go they’ll make it work.

—This age group they dealt with they don’t remember years ago. At times they don’t remember last week. He can give excuses for the performance last year but it was what it was. West Virginia just didn’t play very well they had a bunch of issues going into that game but they physically dominated both lines of scrimmage.

—James Gmiter is older and mature so he remembers the score last year.

—They have two channels the interior on one channel and Gerad Parker and him on the other.

—Brown doesn’t think his team will be surprised. The schemes aren’t unique but it’s how they get to them that proves to be problematic with the shifts and motions to create extra gaps.

—Defensively they flew around and played with a lot of energy. They played a complete game. Brown would love to tell you that pre game and halftime speeches matter but it comes down to execution.

—The plan was to play those five offensive linemen unless something happened. Wyatt Milum played well and is still a true freshman but it was the best game he’s played. A really positive experience for him.

—When things are going good there is less communication. When they aren’t you’re searching. Sean looks at the pass game, Gerad looks at it as a play caller and others handle their roles.

—Brown has practiced well. That was his best game running the football and he didn’t press. Tony Mathis gave him some quality snaps too.

—Against them you have to eliminate the negative plays. When they get you in second and third and long they make it really difficult. They pressure or they drop eight which makes it tough. They slam the big defensive ends inside but they can get four in the box really fast. You have to do a really good job on first and second down.
