The person dropped the weapon and fled in an SUV, and was later taken into custody in a neighboring county, the officials said. The officials were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Authorities are treating the case as a potential assassination attempt, and arrested a suspect, a U.S. official told Fox News. The man, who was not immediately identified, was allegedly armed with a rifle when agents fired at him.
"This does not appear to be some random guy with an AK-47 walking outside Trump's club," the official added.

Read that secret service fired shots and those were the only ones reported. But again, nothing is confirmed so people probably shouldn't be spreading it. It just blurs and distorts the initial investigation.
I would hope that is always the case. I mean always the case that secret service is the one shooting. If they do their job well that should be the result but it is too early to believe anything right now.
He was trying to conduct an ambush. He got discovered before he could pull it off. The question that needs answered it how did he know Trump's specific schedule.
Someone at the golf club would be my first guess. Probably sent a text to someone that the former POTUS was there, then it spread? Of course there are other conspiracy theories out there that will be the most believed.
That's some fast moving gossip even in the internet age.
The guy was set up on the 5th hole waiting according to news reports. The answer to my question is important and something that needs a legitimate answer ASAP.
The POTUS team doesn't just "show up" at a golf course. I'd say it was a day or two (or longer) that the golf club was contacted to let the golf club know they were coming.
