Pens/Bolts-Eastern Conference Finals

I know (or, at least I think I know) what Pierre was trying to say, but he certainly stuck his d*** into his own mouth with that ham-handed effort. Not sure if we'll be seeing Kessel talking to Pierre on camera too much in the future.

It just occurred to me (my hotel's cable does not carry NHLN, so perhaps this has been discussed publically on the tube) that the Bolts got two goals from the reorganized Triplets last night......plus two assists from Kucherov......and they still got whacked. Of course, they really didn't get going until the 3rd period when the game was already falling out of reach, but that's still an awful reality.

At this point, I don't see what the Bolts have to lose by throwing the kitchen sink (physically, that is) at the Pens in Game 4; they didn't do that as much last night as I expected. Hedman, Boyle, Callahan, and Coburn (after the turd he laid last night) are going to be throwing their weight around coming out of the locker room tomorrow night. Hope the Pens are ready; while they obviously have regained home ice, the line between momentum and retreat in the playoffs is really pretty fine.

But Cooper does initially sound a bit at a loss to understand what's happened to his team (and how to turn things around)......probably the most frustrating thing is that he can't blame his goaltending.

48 shots fired with 44 right into the keeper's jersey logo! Finally in the third we started making him work a little! Two things I saw last night that really made me happy. One was the continued dominance of the Bonino line. Talk about Chemistry right now....these guys are flying. That line was scary close to 5-6 goals and I don't think that is an exaggeration. Not only effective in the offensive zone but the are playing responsibly over 200 feet. The other thing is that the Pens are just tremendously faster and really pounded the Bolts into submission mentally. I enjoyed the fact that the Bolts just looked defeated (except for that brief moment after the Johnson goal) for most of the second and third period. Give Sully tons of credit for his creativity and his ability to get the team to play his way.

Just a few random thoughts. The official scorer was a little tough not handing out a few assists (Malkin) for the Kunitz goal. Hard to say the D ever had real possession of that puck. They were just trying to clear it from the slot. Malkin made a great play there. Sheary looked good. I was surprised to see just 7:30 of ice time. He stayed on his feet, used his speed, had a good chance or two. I thought Cole was sloppy. I know the TV guys were hard on Schultz but that crazy turnover in the third period was by Cole not Schultz as the NBC crew stated. Sid is officially back. Really engaged all over the ice. Let's get game 4 and close out in Pittsburgh!

Very likely he broke that hand but who would ever know??? I know it isn't unusual to call up a few guys to keep practicing just in case you need bodies but seems odd that Jarry was called up as the Pens seem to have three healthy goalies already

Hagelin's goal. I have watched that goal 6-7 times and I am amazed at the ability of Hagelin to avoid being checked. Watch that play, he darted inside of the defenseman. Then he went outside. When the D turned left to check him, he broke right and went in unchecked. Smarts, Desire, or Will to win but so often you see a guy skate a straight line and get checked off that rebound. Just a great play. Give Kessel credit for putting that shot off the pads for the rebound too.

No doubt Hagelin has the Sixth Sense working overtime; the Bolts (or even the Pens, for that matter) just never seem to know when he's going to break out on a given play. No question that when his turbo kicks in, the Bolts get nervous. And unlike Sid and Geno, he isn't getting hit that much; though his game isn't in the corners, and the Bolts haven't proven they can catch him to hit him anyway.

Probably the biggest question for me is will Cooper pull Vasilevskiy as soon as Bishop is ready to play (which may or may not be anytime soon), While I understand Bishop is considered better at handling/moving the puck, I just can't see what he delivers as a stopper of the puck that Vasilevskiy hasn't already done in spades. Frankly, I think he's been Tampa's best player by several dozen magnitudes.

Meanwhile, when was the last time you saw a veteran defenseman like Braydon Coburn flat give up on a play......I thought it hysterical when Anson Carter said he "went out for a skate"......as he did on Hagelin's goal ?? Then, he stupidly buries his elbow into Hagelin's temple leading to Sid's game winner on the PP.

And in his infinite wisdom, Cooper doubles down on the stupidity by blaming it all on Drouin......finally, I'm wondering if Cooper could end up sitting Coburn tomorrow night in favor of Koekkoek (though I seriously doubt it).

I have been watching some of the Sharks/Blues WC finals, but don't know who to root for. Not taking for granted the Pens will advance, but I need one of you hockey experts to tell me who the Pens would match up better with should they advance to SC Finals. SJ looks very fast. Thoughts?

I would honestly rather St Lou...for 2 reasons...I honestly think the Sharks have finally found that mojo...Backis and Pietrangelo are very good but imo a small step down from Burns and Vlasic....secondarily. ..I think Elliott is prone to more than one bad game in the cage...as he is pulled right in front of my eyes for Allen re: a 3-0 Sharks onslaught! ....just my take off top of head....

Guys. ...just for the record...in scrolling through all the postings for the series....I'm not sure I've seen so many well thought out posts in one thread...seriously. I suppose we are all upping our game too, the further the Pens go lol! I guess when the games mean so much it intensifies our view on what we're seeing....and in a good way...of course when our team is winning it makes the analysis all the more enjoyable!
And.....I'm already on pins/needles awaiting 8pm tomorrow lol!

I secretly want to see Koek's...but this is my Petes bias showing through lol....however...Koek's needs to lose....this last statement is IMPERATIVE!

Were you referring to Hornqvist ??

You probably know by now PH was said to be skating this morning with no apparent signs of discomfort, and is more or less cleared to go for Game 4. As for any injury he might actually have......though really, how many injuries are ever formally acknowledged in the NHL anymore (given those absurd LBI and UBI "designations")....this is virtually identical to the aftermath of the Ovechkin hack to Sid's hand in the second round.

Speaking of injuries.....beyond Tyler Johnson's being kneed by Chris Kunitz (and, of course, whatever it is/was that caused Ben Bishop to thrash around the CAC ice like a harpooned seal).......has a single Bolts player left the ice in the first 3 games with what could be thought of as any kind of possibly lingering injury ?? From my standpoint, that burst up the middle of the ice for the first Bolts goal in Game 3 certainly made if appear to me as though Johnson wasn't dealing with much trouble from the Kunitz knee.

Meanwhile, regarding Tristan Jarry, my impression is that he's probably doing little if anything beyond giving MM, Flower, and JZ some rest at practice (or possibly manning the nets with the non-dressed leftovers after practice). If you weren't aware, the kid largely fell off the side of the earth in the second half of season in WB/S; so much so that he was benched (for lousy play) well after Murray got called up to Pittsburgh, and was actually 2nd string during the AHL playoffs behind somebody named Casey DeYoung.

Up front, I myself would have picked San Jose.

While they're a kind-of typical (meaning big) Western team, I myself don't think their exact style would give the Penguins (all things being equal) quite as much trouble as the road-grader style of the Blues. Of course, the Pens proved (to at least some extent) they could survive that kind of style by beating the Craps.

It appears some folks think tough 1st and 2nd Rounds.....both of which went 7 games (against very good, but not very physical, opponents in Chicago and Dallas).....is catching up to the Blues. Given the way the Sharks seem to be systematically taking them apart, it seems pretty unlikely to me currently they can come back in that series unless the tide turns rather dramatically their direction.

So somebody from the East......hopefully the Pens, obviously......will likely be playing San Jose, no matter what we want (or how we feel today).

Bad to worse with this penalty...man alive...

That was a downright silly play by Fehr on the shorthand to while falling kick it back to the point...BURY IT IN THE CORNER ERIC!!!

Not sure if you fella's agree but one thing I'd LOVE to see more is this Vaselevsky handling the puck...cause he sucks at it. He's slow and lackadaisical with it imo...Murray is proving he's not the best at at it but certainly adequate...

Settling in now too...majority of play in THEIR zone now....let's get one here...

Damn some crappy defense there. Kessel and Hagelin just didn't work hard
And them too...lazy play from their blueline to C is really apparent...it's quite something when you control the play fairly well and then say...'here! Have it!'...

And ENOUGH with the stick work Kris! Don't need another penalty at this point!

Need to get a flurry of shots on him early in the 2nd I think.

Cherry had a good little analogy in the intermission...watch Murray after he makes a save (hopefully he makes plenty in the 2nd/3rd), a lot of the time he will kick it out of his glove with a quick shot like Cheevers and Roy always did...a sorta 'get this thing outta here ref!'...never really thought of it but he's right lol....I hope he looks like those 2 rest of this game cause we're gonna need it!

So far they don't look like the same two teams that played on Wednesday.

Boyle is a clown...and Kris almost as much for engaging him...

Not only that but Kris unraveling and we get the extra 2 with HIM in the box and Daley gone for the night....This Boyle incenses me...ass clown with his theatrics in the box.

And I would think that's it...damn...I honestly can't fault Murray on ANY of these goals either tonight...hung out to dry by a team that has made far too many costly errors...

Fridays have not been kind to Pens in this series.

Get Murray out of there before he gets hurt. His teammates are doing nothing to help him.

I would hope we see Flower in the 3rd just to get some action which is good...although....this also adds some controversy...MM not at fault tonight really...I liked the moment between MM and Flower when Marc-Andre patted him on the back end of period in order to say 'I know it's not your fault and I'll take it for the rest of the night'...and...maybe longer...

The first goal was a big one...then after it seemed some MOJO was there until.... the second one was crushing...downhill slide from there...get something...ANYTHING going in the 3rd to send a message that The Pen's aren't going to lie down...cause obviously the Bolts aren't....
