Pens/Bolts-Eastern Conference Finals

Game2-Infogfx-TBL1.jpg

Drouin...really starting to sense this kid could be a big factor rest of this series if he continues to get significant minutes....with the puck, there's plenty of flash and dash in him...anyone else see a lot of Marty St. Louis in his game?....however without the disk he is prone to overcommiting and stupid penalties....Cooper may be pulling his hair out from time to time down the stretch here. I certainly see just why he was sent packing to Syracuse for awhile....hopefully we continue to see plenty of the stupid facet from him....

Besides delivering the OT game winner last night, Sid made a couple of crunching body checks. I thought he was really engaged throughout the game. I am optimistic his netting one will open the "floodgates."
Morning radio here agree with you on this Euell...said he delivered some solid checks and had a good number of chances which as we know finally hit paydirt!
Obviously the Bolts will be all over him at home, he needs to fight past it and avoid getting goaded into retaliation....
Also thought Kunitz had his fair share of opportunities....he needs to bury one soon or he'll deserve some time on the pine.....

I want them to be up 3-1 when Torontoeers and his beautiful wife make an appearance at CEC on Sunday and you guys get to see the clincher! That would be awesome! However, I will settle for 2-2 and you get to see the boys take a 3-2 lead. I'm not greedy!

I really liked Sid's game last night. He could have had 2 more goal. Only one stupid backhand, cross-ice pass to Letang in the 3rd period that was deflected into the crowd (he should have shot with Geno and Kris busting for the net.) By far the active he has been on the offensive end in a while. I thought Sheary was trying to do too much. He has one good aspect to his game....speed. he needs to use that and quit trying to be cute with the puck. Also, he may be the weakest player I have ever seen on skates. In the offseason, he needs to hit the weights hard and really improve his ability to stay upright. He could have a nice career if he does those two things.

Well, I fell asleep and missed most of the 3rd AND Sid's game winner......what a wimp I've become (actually, this isn't new) now that I'm officially up against 60 years of age :weary:

Anyway, NHLN Radio was pumping the good guys today; everyone said they deserved the win. Matt Barnaby said it's the fastest he's EVER seen the Pens, and opined it was NHL vs AHL in terms of speed and effort. I think he was trying intentionally to be controversial.

They (Steve Kouleas, I think) also mentioned how much Cooper shortened his bench versus the Pens (especially in the 3rd) onslaught, making me wonder if the Pens can keep the Bolts on the run and eventually wear them down. Of course, the Bolts will go back to their Game 1 philosophy of running at Letang and others tomorrow night, especially with Callahan back in the lineup.

About the only negative was the ass kicking Conor Sheary obviously took. He's clearly not built to match-up against a team as big as Tampa, and he might be wearing down anyway. The fact Rust continues to play effectively would seem to indicate he's much stronger physically (kind of an offshoot of the point OM was trying to make above). I find myself wondering if CS is in danger of being sat tomorrow night, possibly in favor of everyone's favorite China doll, Beau Bennett.

Finally, did anyone see anything negative enough from Justin Schultz last night to indicate.....outside injury.....we'll be seeing Olli Maatta again anytime soon ??

Josh Johe (on DK's website) said flatly that Kunitz has little left in the way of hands based on the number of routine passes he seemingly no longer can receive. But he also said CK's effort cannot be questioned based on his game high 9 hits. For the record, the DK site has consistently been hard on Kunitz this season.

One more thing, t......I found your comments about Drouin's play without the puck VERY intriguing. Certainly would lead one to believe that's been his problem with the TBL (and Cooper/Yzerman) all along, and is something worth watching to the extent that's possible on TV (though YOU can obviously see it). Just another example of how valuable your perspective always is around here [thumb2]

You would not believe how much we are looking forward to Euell...actually yes you would lol...but regardless the results I'm hoping for 2 but will be happy with one W down south, it's the playoff enviro...the elevated roar of the crowd which gets more and more amped with each series...the absolute best natural high anyone can get imo...when they take the ice...THAT is my favourite moment...the odd goal certainly helps too lol! Thank you for the kind words and I will do my best to be without voice by game end!

And thank you for the kind words CM! Remember I'm a bit of a hack on blades for a Canuck lol...I truly do hang on a lot of the words that you and OM1, Euell et al bring to the table...I am always eager to h'EER' the take you fellas have on what we've seen, When you can look at something and think 'well I didn't see / think of that...' well that gets us all involved more which is simply amazing imo...it is just a game as they say but a common vested interest amongst fans agree/disagree makes it all the better...and after last night well...we all agree lol!
The gent Johe I agree with whole heartedly...I have thought over the last half of season I'm not sure I've seen Kunitz hit so well and often in some time. And we NEED that...if he's not gonna show up on the score ledger I will at least take that aspect for now...I am hopeful he can pot one or 2 in this round to take the pressure off but as mentioned perhaps his hands have left him a bit. When Chris was announced for the Canadian Olympic team (from what I understand Sid's forceful request), many here were bemoaning his assignment. I defended it somewhat, to the fact that Sid felt comfortable with him out there. When Kunitz scored what was either the gane winner or third goal (can't remember), vs The Swedes for gold my smile was pretty large in my (Leaf/Kunitz doubting) buddies face at the 6 am Bailey's /Tim Hortons coffee party we had at our house lol!
One more thing...how do you guys feel bout the apparent 'be ready' caught on tv Sully said to MAF after the second goal by TB last night? I have no issue with it...he's pumping Flowers tires a bit and works for me...must be hard for Flower to sit...he wants in and I don't blame him...for the record MM looked shaky on the 2nd goal imo and then finally settled in to a bend don't break look from then on...a great save on Kilhorn to keep it knotted in the late 2nd....

Well said...very well said lol...the wife is a Letang fan...I think (KNOW) It has a lot to do with the looks lol...but she has two other faves now...Sheary and Especially Rust...if as you say Sheary can get just a bit stronger he is the perfect sparkplug imo...Rust appears to my eyes anyway to be a good thinker with speed out there...what a find...

Maybe I am overly optimistic but I think the Pens can win 3 in a row here. The team looked good in the third period as we saw a return of better offense including the tough forechecking. As the NHL Network folks were saying last night, both Geno and Sid were engaged and both had good games. If they stay that way, I will be hard to beat the Pens. I know the Bolts like to counter quickly but if there is a single complaint about the Pens play over the last 2 is the number of odd man rushes caused by poor decisions. The 2 on 1 for the Bolts late in game 2 was just not smart play as nobody covered for Letang. If you think about this, 2 of the Bolts game 1 goals were a breakaway and a 3 on 1. I believe the 1st bolt goal Monday was an odd man rush as well. Yhey had a breakaway in game 2 as well that Murray stopped. The Druoin goal was just a Murray whiff.

Anyway, I think we win this series now in 6.

Was thinking just that the other night OM1...not sure ive seen quite so many odd man rushes given up in some time...eliminate even half of them and the Pens take this sooner rather than later, and convincingly imo.
The Bolts will likely revert back to a bit of the goonery we saw in game 1 for tonight. ...don't get goaded into retaliation Sid/Geno et al....and chip that puck OVER the monstrous Tampa D reach!

It seemed like Friday night the Bolts were blocking a lot of shots at the point which can lead to odd man rushes the other way. Also the way the Pens are emphasizing the forecheck, which to me has been effective, and pinching in some you may give up the occasional odd man rush. Hopefully, MM can not give up any more soft goals like we have seen lately. LGP!

Just so everyone knows, the last time I watched the Pens away from home (meaning in a hotel) was last Tuesday night when they finished off the Craps. Let's hope that counts for something tonight, as I'm spending the next two nights in Columbus OH. As far as I can tell, pretty much everyone expects the Bolts to win tonight......if for no other reason the great o_O Ryan Callahan is back in the lineup.

Would be great to see the Pens head to the locker room after the 1st with a lead. Will be watching to see tonight if the Bolts......who have been badly out-shot thus far in the series.....get many more pucks on goal tonight than in the first two games. They need possession to do that, and the Pens have (from what I can tell) been dominating the puck possession stats thus far.

Guys...get a load of this if you haven't seen!

LMAO! I have 2 here already from first round...I think I might bronze one of them lol...I'll be swingin' my latest one loud and proud on Sunday! AND it makes me want to visit Bradenton next winter...people get their panties in a wad about the littlest most ridiculous things...I wonder if there is facebook faux outrage too?

Actually I have a 'Lets go Cocks' rag from a game in SC a few years back...what if it was made in Preston County???? Should I burn it? [laughing]

Lets Go Pens!!!!!!!!

Good point Indeed with the blocked shots Euell...

I'm seeing a lot of pinching on both sides again, Murray...soften up those pads! And Drouin with 2 giveaways one of them almost deadly...keep up the damn good work Pens!!! So many chances in that one flurry about 10 mins in...this is NOT the same Pens team that played the Bolts reg season....lets get some puck luck here in 2!!!

Yeah, the borderline amazing rebound control Murray showed against the Rangers has certainly gone missing.....and I honestly don;t have a clue why that is. But the Pens defense has done a fairly strong job preventing further opportunities. Bolts have the better of the play overall, but the Pens fought off the early push and evened things up fairly significantly.

They should come out for the 2nd feeling pretty decent. Hagelin in particular is flying out there tonight; I hope he gets rewarded. Also, keep an eye out for more of the extracurricular crap which Tyler Johnson seems to feel entitled tonight; hope the stripes reel him in.

Man, it'd have been sweet if Kessel could have buried that wrister in the slot through all that traffic.

Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pens get their first power play of the game as Callahan heads to the box for holding.
PIT is 27.8% on the PP.
16:03 left in the 2nd.

True or False: Malkin will actually have a legitimate SOG tonight (meaning not miss the goal altogether)

Oh man! And I wonder if Phil wasn't hit so hard just before he buries that! All over em now guys and just can't buy a goal...2ND backhand from Sid...damn! Oh man...I'll edit this again...ALL FREAKIN OVER THEM! And no paydirt....wow...gotta get one....We NEED Columbus road trip LUCK!!!! BTW CM...tell em all how dirty they play there...and remind them who's NOT golfing right now!!!
