If I was WV I would play hardball with him because I doubt the other schools will open up the checkbook this off season
Jeff Long......
Horrible AD. Bad hires at Pitt and at Arkansas.
Was fired at Arkansas for his horrible football hire.
If Les Miles is given complete control over the football program I feel for KU fans.
High hopes that won't be rewarded.
Someone needs to make sure he doesn't bring his right hand man Cam Cameron.
Kansas needs an OC that can develop a QB. Miles could not develop a QB at LSU and in the Big XII like the NFL you win and lose with QB play.
Most felt his program would start to decline and that he was winning on talent alone. I'm not convinced he's a great coach but it's tough to argue with his success. As a casual fan, I never understood why LSU wanted so badly to remove a HC with a national championship under his belt? Must have been some major personality conflicts within the athletic department.

Larry Coker has a NC
Winning a NC doesn't prove you are an elite coach.
Being able to consistently coach at or above your talent level does and Les
Miles did not.
He left 2-3 NC on the table for LSU
He was ultimately fired because of loyalty.
A true "Michigan Man".
LSU boosters wanted Cam Cameron gone and Miles refused so they both end up going.
But he had already worn out his welcome in BR.
Well they botched the hire. Firing Miles to hire an assistant like Orgeron when the goal is to compete with Saban, is flat dumb.
Before that season started if you asked to see a the AD's list of potential replacements, Orgeron wouldnt have been in the top 20.
You are talking about maybe the best recruiter at the head coach position in the country.
LSU recruiting under Les Miles was falling off.
LSU gets hit from all sides.
Saban and early Les Miles had LSU recruiting strong outside of their state and in their state.
At the very worse Ed Orgeron will get them back to that level.
LSU was on an upward trajectory when Miles took over .
He took them even higher but....
At the end of the day his conservative nature and his hiring of Cam Cameron did him in.
He was an emergency back up plan when Jimbo Fisher rebuffed their advances and the situation was toxified.
Lets not act like this was planned or preferred.
Thing with Jimbo Fisher is that he had everything in the world at Florida State.
Meyer left Florida and the program was a shitshow
Nevin Shapiro had Miami boosters keeping their wallets in their pockets.
A few schools believed Jimbo was an elite coach but by 2016 the shine of Jimbo went away.
Mark Richt out recruited Jimbo at the end.
Jimbo jumped but when he did he made sure he got a 75 million dollar buyout.
No one in BR would rather have Jimbo right now.
Lol, yes they would....thats just sour grapes talking.
All you need to know about Jimbo is 2016
Loss to Louisville 62-20....
Ed Orgeron and LSU killed Louisville in the bowl game
Tom Herman with less talent beat Louisville by 30 points as well.
Jimbo can get be given credit for Winston but if you look at his record with Winston compared to without Winston you see who deserves credit for the NC.
Jimbo never had FSU in the NC talk without Winston.
This was in the ACC.
Dabo is showing what an elite coach should be doing in the ACC
Good argument....take away a teams best player and say they wouldnt be so good without them. Brillant.
Florida St had the best roster in the ACC every year...
Even when Clemson started to get good after 2010.
So Jimbo is losing on average 3 games a year against teams with lesser talent.
In the SEC he will be playing teams with rosters comparable to his almost every week.
So why would LSU want another coach who at his best will be 9-3...
Well thats who LSU wanted to hire. He was their target.
Is that worse than having a coach who cant score a single point against their rival?
Orgeron was not a candidate. He was an emergency fall back plan who was offered the job after the administration botched both the termination and new hire.
It doesnt really matter who they get, until Saban retires they are road meat and playing for 2nd place in the West.
In 2016....
LSU went after Tom Herman. There was even a report on the Monday after Thanksgiving that year that Herman agreed to a contract with LSU.
Herman was desired because of what he did against Alabama while OC at Ohio St.
LSU pulled out when it became known that Texas would be willing to have a spending war.
Ultimately Herman and his agent was trying to get LSU, Texas and even A&M to go after them.
aggy kept Sumlin though.
As soon as Herman was announced to be head coach at Texas LSU took the interim name off of Orgeron.
Only time Jimbo was a legit candidate for the LSU job was when Saban jumped to the NFL.
Jimbo was the OC at the time.
A&M boosters are throwing money like drunken sailors.
They are even buying tickets to home games to make it look like they have a sell out.
A&M's actual turn out for home games this year is only 75%. Meaning only 75% of the tickets bought are actually scanned.
But...
Anyone that has an idea on what is going on knows that both LSU and Texas made the best choices.
aggy is stuck with Jimbo. He may get them in a NYD bowl but he will never have them winning NC.
They pretty much drained the piggy bank since 2011.
For what...
A 9-3 coach.
Both LSU and Texas are going to win at least 9 games this year without Jimbo.
Winning a NC doesn't prove you are an elite coach.
I agree LSU is getting a good value with Orgeron. No one wants to be a sacrificial lamb for Alabama....probably wont get better when Saban retires and Dabo keeps them rolling.
The Jimbo deal from the Aggies was criminal. No public institutions should pay that for a coach.

Pfffft!
Dude you got to quit making stuff up and get your own thread. 75% actual capacity, yeah that means 1/4 of the seats are empty. That's not the case. I've watched them play. Maybe Only in the 4th qtr when the game is over vs a tomato can opponent.
This thread was about Les Miles and you've tried to turn it into a historical referendum on Jimbo who is probably the best play caller in college and is better than Miles or Orgeron.
I didn't bring Jimbo into this....
But LSU didn't miss out on Jimbo.
He is definitely not the best offensive playcaller in CFB.
His gameplan only works if his D can stop the opponent.
If not Jimbo's offense cannot put up the points to compete.
Even the great Jameis Winston couldn't when they played.
Oregon jumped on the gas and Jimbo and FSU turned the ball over.
Much better to have an offensive coach who can be conservative when needed but can be explosive as well.
This goes back to Les Miles..
This is why Miles will not win more than 6 games a year at KU.
At least Bill Snyder has his playbook with about one thousand plays to fall back to.
