so the Big Tortoise Conference, formerly known as the Big 12-2=10, waits to see what happens instead of making something happen. Look for PAC12 remnants to stay together and with advice from media partners bring on San Diego State to reaffirm southern California presence. They then move into the recruiting state they always wanted by grabbing Dallas through SMU. Meanwhile northwest members clamor for more and the league boldly adds Boise and another major market in UNLV. The Big 12 watches the PAC grow to 14 with more market penetration. Announces Tulsa, Tulane, Memphis and Usf are being looked at. Whoopie.

How do you know that they haven't tried to make something happen? Its pretty hard to make something happen when you don't have much to offer.

B10 will finish off the PAC with 4 more invites and B12 will sweep up the scraps.

B12 has more to offer at this time than PAC.

Usually fall back options are not utilized until options A,B.C ext ext ext are off the table

If that were the case then the powers that be would be raiding the Big 12 instead of targeting Pac schools.
Normally yes, but the BIG 12 is the only conference that can end both the ACC and PAC 12. Essentially we survive and 2 die. Will the SEC and Big 10 then come at the B12? It depends.

If everyone is smart then no. Have the 60 remaining teams from the SEC, BIG 10 and Big 12 leave the NCAA in lockstep. Have our own FB playoff and BBall Tournament. Do some mild reshuffling to get geography aligned better and call it a day. 60 is more than enough schools to look more inclusionary which should reduce the chances of being charged with collusion. It would also keep the vast majority of Americans invested instead of just the Rust Belt and Southeast.

If the SEC and Big 10 get greedy then they will attack. If I were the Big 12 I'd make it so that the entire conference would have to vote "yes" to dissolve and that would lock down the GOR. Require the networks to review the financials every 5 years and adjust for market shifts with The SEC and B10 packages so that we don't get left behind financially. A decent corp lawyer could write this up so that there are no windows for escape. Simply do a 20 year contract with market adjustments every 5 years. Then the SEC/Big 10 would either have to leave the NCAA on their own or deal with the Big 12 on expanding the playoffs and frankly anything else they would want, which we would block just for shits and giggles.

No one would look at a Big 10/ SEC basketball tournament as a National Championship. Ever.

Not certain schools but the conference as an entity, the SEC and B1G don't want anything to do with the Big12, so there won't be a "3" but only a 2.

The Sec and Big 10 run the show. They can have any teams they want. Any team in the Big 12 would jump at the opportunity to join. Teams in the Pac and Acc don't want to join the Big 12. The only way they end up as members if its there last option.

The ACC and the Big 12 have solid foundations even if they don’t have the same media rights bargaining position as the SEC and Big Ten. The Pac-12 looks like the conference that is on the flimsiest foundation with the Big Ten and Big 12 lurking.

New Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark has been open about the conference’s desire to expand. Not long after the USC-UCLA announcement, it was reported the Big 12 was looking to add Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah. Reports have slowed since as the Pac-12 entered a 30-day window to open negotiations on its media right deal, but the interest from the Big 12 is still there.

And if it was able to, the conference would be interested in adding Oregon and Washington, though the Big 12 will have to contend with the Big Ten for those northwestern powers.

Unless they leave the NCAA they can suck it. We would all have equal seats at The High Table.
I'll also guarantee you that if a group of 20 teams (SEC/Big 10) left everyone else high and dry the lawsuits would be insane.

It's becoming obvious that many are out of options. If the Big 12 gets to 20 teams and has 1-2 teams in the top 10 every year then any "National Championship" with just the Big 10 and SEC teams would always be carrying as asterisk.

The Big 10 and SEC can have anyone they want, but how many teams will they take on? 24 each would be the most. 60 teams offers way more scheduling options and would more likely to keep the National interest in football going.

I admire your optimism; but those lawsuits probably wouldn’t happen, that would be like WVU suing the ACC to get in their league. And far as for an asterisk on a champion, they won’t care. The Big12 had made a few bad decisions. Only WVU, OSU, and Baylor to a certain extent has a national appeal and worth in the Big12. K-State, Iowa St. and Texas Tech can reach that though.

Since when did WVU gain a national appeal? Or, in your alternative reality, is that why the B1G and the SEC are in a bidding war to add the Mountaineers? You guys who never leave Slag Hollow WV are so cute lol.

Obviously you must be stuck in your little area, as I see WV fans all over the country. The best thing for you is to put the majority of this board on ignore. You might get happy.

And tell me what P5 team doesn't have "fans all over the country "? Lol. WVU is a small alumni base university...small population...small corporate footprint...no urban centers... low education and income...state. That with the fact that there is no history of sustained athletic achievement ...and only in the minds of Slag Hollow types like you Tylerlight does WVU smell an invite from the B1G and/or SEC.

You probably live in a crappy area which is of the Carolinas

You beat me to it. That's exactly what will happen. The PAC is stronger than the B12 today but as a result they're the one that's going to get further raided by the Big Ten and after that happens, the B12 will be stronger than whatever that PAC is at that point and thus the B12 will take the leftover scraps.

Gives the Big 10 coast to coast and the ability to go 4 pods of 5. Plus that leaves a chance to add teams from ACC at least 3 and Notre Dame when their contract is done. Thus giving them 24.

Just a wild guess.

Facts
1) The SEC and Big10 will have to deal with the Big 12 unless they leave the NCAA.
2) If they leave, the remaining schools and states will use all available legal and political efforts to either get their team in or obstruct said move. It might not work, but if hard evidence can be found that ESPN worked with the SEC and Big 10 to guide moves to eliminate certain teams from a level playing field then you have a case.

Sorry but those are opinions not facts.

Look at the big picture. Not individual schools. B12 media contract is significantly higher. Even with losing OUT B12 is a solid conference after adding 4. .... AND PAC is going to lose a couple more to B1G. PAC as a conference is fragile. AZ, AZSt, Utah, Colo, Ore, Wash are looking to get out.

Schools maybe looking to get out of the Pac but there not looking to go to the Big 12. The schools in the Big 12 would love to get out as well. The new big 12 additions are G5 schools who won't move the needle that much. No one knows what the next Big 12 media contract will be but they're not going to hit the jack pot with what they added.
