Should be in

i

West Virginia Mountaineers (83%)

It was not as comfortable as it could have been with a 22-point lead at the half, but the Mountaineers nonetheless closed the regular season with a win against UCF on Saturday, perhaps building momentum for the Big 12 tournament. After the win, the ESPN Analytics model elevates WVU's probability to 83%, placing it firmly within "should be in" territory. It's worth noting, however, that other models are somewhat less optimistic, and the Mountaineers entered the day ninth in NET in a conference that Bracketology projects for eight tourney teams. WVU has faced a difficult schedule, though, and ranks top 40 in both SOR and WAB, with six wins versus top-50 opponents and 12 against the top 100. The Mountaineers might need a good run in the conference tourney to feel safer, but they are in solid shape if the committee respects their schedule strength. (Updated March 9 at 8:45 a.m.)
Next game: Wednesday vs. TBD, Big 12 tournament, 3 p.m. (ESPN+)

Our resume is a strange one. We should be safely in at this point but it could get dicey depending on what the committee decides to weight this year.

It’s always based on what way the wind blows on the committee. You don’t know what it is year to year or even day to day with what happens in conference tourneys.

We have no chance of beating Houston (awful match up for us) so we aren’t going on a run in KC. Need to win the next one & hope that’s enough.

FWIW Baylor was ahead of us in this piece until this morning.

That column used to be awesome when Eamonn Brennan used to write it. It’s just a shell of what it used to be now.

I suspect they'd rather see a player like Small and discuss DeVries going to Iowa for a round or two, so that may get us in LOL.

…so we (not ESPN) are speculating what happens after a loss in the Big 12 tournament?

WVU fans have a ‘tell’. Freudian used long paragraphs with lots of words to explain the same phenomenon.

Note to self.: …as if a long paragraph could be written without lots of words.

That goes for most of ESPN's writers. Their TV stuff has been down for at least a couple decades but the website had some of the best in the business. They've bled talent the last few years though. Brennan, Gasaway, and Keating were all at ESPN at the same time and their college basketball coverage was top notch.

ESPN takes are actually garbage now. There’s only one reason to watch ESPN… that is Pat McAfee.

This is not a loaded question…

If not a WVU fan, would you consider ESPN worth watching because of the one reason..Pat McAfee? I get he’s getting lots of money most likely because of ratings….but personally I ONLY catch his show because he supports WVU. In my opinion, his show is like a blog mixed with a podcast. Amazingly unprofessional for TV.

Stephen Smith just signed a record deal with ESPN…total tool (too).

I think it is because an analytic decided there would only be eight BXII teams, so it is based on that rather than WVUs resume.

If this 8 determination is gospel as ESPN is taking it, then someone's out, and Baylor beat us head to head, albeit barely on the road.

Safe bet the committee will favor and set up the sec, so WVU should just go ahead and take care of one more W Wednesday.

I stick with his podcast
I personally wish he wasn’t tied to ESPN but the structure of his contract is so heavily favored towards him so it was a no brainer to sign, he has full control of his show.

Not to mention… anytime he mentions us on college gameday is a win for us, or really anytime on his show.

I’ve mentioned this before.. ESPN needs him way more than he needs ESPN, well he doesn’t need ESPN at all.

He’s important to us. Some of the older folks may not like his style but he’s only going to gain followers in the future.

I hope he has his show in Morgantown the Friday before the Pitt game like he did for Penn State.

Solidly a 10 seed on Bracket Matrix

St. John’s just moved into a 2 seed. Give me that match up over the other 2 seeds if we get a 10 & find a way to win that first game.

Not saying St John’s is terrible but they are a notch below the other teams on the 2 line.
With St. John's defense and streaky offense that game may rival all time under totals lol.

I don't know if ESPN hates us per se, but their love affair with the SEC is over the top.
I'm sure the rise of SEC basketball is making them deliriously happy.

Who cares what ESPN said anyways I don’t
Yes, in effing deed.

I feel like, other than updating the UCF win, ESPN didn’t change any of the language related to WVU from earlier in the week.

Just lazy….

The SEC got such a huge boost when it went 14-2 versus the ACC in their "challenge." The boost to the conference's SOS has only fed on itself.

Maybe it's deserved, but maybe the ACC is a train wreck after Duke, Clemson and Louisville. The Big Dance will sort it out soon enough.
