Back in 2012 President Barrack Obama called Vladimir Putin to congratulate him on his election win. There was one article published about it in Foreign Policy magazine.

I struggle to grasp this love affair of all things DJT and the pure hatred of Obama. Considering the majority the the contempt of Obama comes from lightly educated white males, I have to assume of lot of it is just suppressed racism. As a moderate, I disliked a lot about Obama's policies but I never felt hate toward the man or his family nor did I ever think he was leading us down a dead end street. A little too liberal for me, but nothing that couldn't be dealt with.
Now we have a man who clearly is incompetent at best and likely psychotic leading our country. We have a core of Americans who literally worship the man and refuse to criticize even his most bizarre and angry behaviors. We have evangelicals forgiving a completely ungodly man. Childish behavior is applauded and encouraged. Shenanigans that would have been completely unacceptable by any other president are ignored or worse yet, accepted.
I consider myself fairly well educated and rational. I'm pretty moderate politically. Yet I struggle to understand how a man who stands for nothing, who has demonstrated immoral and unethical behavior his entire life, lacks the ability to reason through any issue, and cannot grasp the power of his position, is so beloved by such a large percentage of Americans. It is almost as if there is a large faction of Americans that want a pre-1964 United States where white men held commanding power over women and minorities. I don't know how else to explain this love affair with DJT.

I don’t read Breitbart. I loved one aspect of his Presidency and that was that he WAS black. I thought that was an extremely important milestone in our country's history and showed how far we’d grown as a nation.
I didn’t like Obama for a variety of reasons. His foreign policy was maybe the worst policy in modern history. From Western Africa to the Phillipines and everything in between went to shit under his leadership. He backtracked decades of foreign policy and it failed, it cost more American lives to retake ground we’d already secured against the advice of his military and IC advisors. He returned to the McNamara style of warfare management and crippled our ability to effectively fight and manage on the ground. He put policy before objective, I think this was probably Clinton driven because that’s the way Bill did it as well.
I didn’t like his economic policies. I felt they inhibited growth potential and unecessarily grew Govt and were overly regulatory.
I didn’t like the ACA though there were things within it I agreed with.
I didn’t like his divisive nature and his Chicago style politics straight out of the Mayor Daley playbook. His poor leadership is responsible for the chasm that exists today through his my way or the highway leadership. In this regard, he’s basically a better spoken Trump.
I didn’t like his divisive leadership on race. We backslid on race relations by decades under him. He undermined police through his words and actions.
I absolutely detest his trampling of the constitution through his use of EOs, DACA (even though I agree with what DACA is), FISA abuse, treaties that weren’t treaties, bulk surveillance violating the 4th amendment about 300 million times, legislation through the oval, attacking media and specific media personalities, weaponizing Govt agencies, etc. Trump is flowing these things back to Congress where they belong and you guys have the audacity to call him a dictator while ignoring Obama’s actions which should have seen him impeached at a minimum.
Should I go on because I can or is it just racism (even though I didn’t care he was black).
That was before Russia invaded Ukraine, became militarily involved in Syria, meddled in our 2016 presidential election, and used a chemical nerve agent in the UK.
Usually, such phone calls are an attempt to confront a foreign leader over such issues, as mentioned above, but Trump did not say one word about any of it.
They talked like beer-buddies, laughing as if all is right with the world.

Thanks for the well-written and thoughtful response. Actually I agree with most everything you wrote. I do disagree with the EO argument. Do you know Obama issued 276 EOs in 8 years. That is less than George W, Clinton, Reagan, Nixon, Johnson and even Carter. You have to go all the way back to Grover Cleveland before you find a president that issued fewer per year than Obama. Considering we were at "war" all 8 years of the Obama presidency, his number is very low. I guess one could argue he expanded the scope of the EOs......I would have no idea.
It wasn’t the number he issued. It was what he decreed. Nothing Trump has done via EOs is even remotely close. The Travel Ban is absolutely within his role of responsibility as CiC.
W’s use of EOs was a major issue I had with him as well. Separate from that, I hated the Patriot Act and NCLB.
It wasn't the number. It was the relatively few that crossed over into Constitutional areas, that the courts kept saying noone had cause to challenge. When they did, they ruled politically, and not by the law. They called a tax a fee a tax.
