After the 2nd half sleepwalk against Texas Tech by the WVU offense, Grier dropped in national statistics.

In passing yardage PER GAME, Grier’s 1,487 yards in FOUR games (damn Hurricane Florence for the North Carolina State game) is equivalent to 1,859 for 5 games.

Hawaii QB Cole McDonald has 2,100 yards and Washington State’s Gardner Minshew has 1,992 so that makes Grier #3 in that category.

But Grier’s quarterback rating of 200.7, which is not affected by the hurricane cancellation, is 2nd only to 230.9 by Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray, which should set up a fantastic matchup November 23 in Mountaineer Field. That late in the season Kyler's Flutie-like size may be a hindrance if WVU can whack him often enough.

Grier has 17 TD passes to 3 interceptions in 4 games. McDonald has 24 and Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins has 19. That would make Grier #2 in per game averages.

WVU has no one ranked high in pass receptions or defense, which is understandable since Grier has thrown to 11 or 12 receivers and not just Sills all the time and Gibby rotates his guys constantly throughout the game, thus not giving one guy a chance to build up statistics.

Winning the game is far more important than being high in statistical rankings. Hell, more important than winning the Heisman. I would rather have WVU win the Big 12 and be in the Football Final Four and Grier NOT win the Heisman than to have Grier win the Heisman and WVU not win the Big 12 or play in the Football Final Four. So would Grier, based on his comments so far.
