MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Sept. 20, 2023) – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team prepares to open its Big 12 Conference home slate against Iowa State on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. ET, inside Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown.



Thursday’s contest against the Cyclones is the Mountaineers Diversity and Inclusion Game, in conjunction with WVU’s Campus Diversity Week. Special t-shirts celebrating diversity and inclusion will be given out to the first 300 fans in attendance. It also is Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, with free admission granted to WVU faculty and staff with a WVU employee ID.

Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME. When purchasing online, tickets are $5 each. Any remaining tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors at the stadium ticket window on match day.

WVU student tickets also will be made available at the Mountaineer Ticket Office, located at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The office, as well as the stadium gates, opens at 6 p.m., on game day. WVU students are admitted for free with a valid WVU Student I.D.

Last time out, WVU suffered a 4-2 loss to league newcomer UCF in its Big 12 Conference opener in Orlando, Florida, on Sept. 14. Even though the Mountaineers scored the first goal with senior midfielder Isabel Loza’s first tally of the season, UCF score three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead. Fifth-year senior forward/defender Julianne Vallerand put WVU one score closer with a penalty kick goal in the 61st minute, but the Knights added a fourth score to solidify the win.



Sophomore forward Taylor White leads the team with four goals and 10 points, while junior forward Dilary Heredia-Beltran holds the team lead in assists (3) and shots (20).



Thursday’s match marks the 12th all-time meeting between West Virginia and Iowa State. The Mountaineers are undefeated in the series, going 11-0 over the Cyclones since their first match in 2012 when West Virginia joined the Big 12. In last season’s contest, Lauren Segalla recorded a brace to lift the Mountaineers to a 2-0 win in Ames on Sept. 25.



Matt Fannon is in his fourth season at the helm of the ISU women’s soccer team, leading the Cyclones to their first win over a ranked team since 2016 during the 2022 campaign. Iowa State arrives in Morgantown 3-5-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play after falling, 4-1, to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 opener on Sept. 14. Senior Mira Emma paces the Cyclone offensive attack, leading the squad in goals (4), assists (2), points (10) and shots (19). Goalkeeper Avery Gillihan has notched 21 saves on the year.

Big 12 Football: Ranking Four New Teams Readiness for 2023 Season​

On Wednesday night the 2024 SEC schedule was revealed, with Oklahoma and Texas both learning who they will face in their inaugural season in Southeastern Conference.

When their schedules were officially revealed, Twitter caught fire, talking about how they weren’t ready for the jump, and how the Sooners and Longhorns would struggle in their new conference. After scrolling mindlessly for a bit, I started to think about something: they won’t be the first teams to make a jump involving the Big 12.

No, in just a couple of weeks, the Big 12 will welcome BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF to the conference, and just a couple months later, they’ll start their first football season in the Big 12. So, who is ready to make the jump, and who might take some lumps in Year 1? Here’s how the incoming teams rank in readiness to compete in 2023.

1. UCF KNIGHTS​

The Knights enter the Big 12 with the best head coach (Gus Malzahn) and the best quarterback (John Rhys Plumlee) of any of the incoming teams, instantly vaulting them to the top of this list. Offensively, the Knights should be dangerous despite the departure of receiver Ryan O’Keefe. On the flipside of the ball, UCF returns six starters but has a new defensive coordinator in Addison Williams. Still, the Knights have a strong roster of Florida-grown talent and should be comfortably better than the other three teams on the list, barring a surprise.

2. CINCINNATI BEARCATS​

Offensively, Cincinnati might be a mess as they are replacing pretty much everyone after 2022, but Emory Jones might answer a lot of questions at quarterback in 2023. Scott Satterfield will enter Year 1 as a relative unknown in Big 12 country, but there are still good bones for this program. Cincinnati returns six starters on defense and should be better on that side of the ball in 2023. As the only new Big 12 team to make a College Football Playoff, Cincy should be a contender on a regular basis going forward, but 2023 will be challenging. Still, expect Cincinnati to be one of the better incoming teams.

3. BYU COUGARS​

Kalani Sitake probably doesn’t get enough credit for the success he’s had at BYU, but losing Jaren Hall and Puka Nacua on offense will be tough to overcome. Pitt transfer Kedon Slovis hopes he can bridge the gap in Provo, and the addition of Aidan Robbins in the backfield will help. However, a defense that disappointed in 2022 will need to improve under new coordinator Jay Hill. The Cougars are an especially difficult team to project, given their mission work, which many times, comes before football. Unfortunately, there are just too many questions for me to feel really confident about their chances in 2023.

4. HOUSTON COUGARS​

Dana Holgorsen will re-enter the Big 12 after spending eight seasons with West Virginia in the conference. The Cougars were hit extremely hard in the transfer portal, with 22 players heading out of the program and 20 coming in, including assumed starting QB Donovan Smith. Alton McCaskill was a huge loss for UH, as he was expected to be a main contributor offensively in 2023. The Cougars were a mess defensively in 2022, giving up over 32 points per game on the year. Just three starters return from that unit, but perhaps that’s a good thing. In short, Houston has a ton of questions, and I’m not real convinced that they’ve got the right answers to compete in 2023.

I apologize if I made any errors with this, I was getting a little lost in the dates and stats. Someone should also apologize for that Oklahoma prediction. 😅

An illegal immigrant from Peru has been charged with murder after being arrested by police in Texas, Fox News Digital has learned.



Maverick County Sheriff's Office confirmed that 64-year-old Roberto Emilio Vasquez-Santamaria was arrested in connection to a homicide that happened Monday in Eagle Pass.

According to multiple U.S. Customs and Border Protection sources, Fox News Digital has learned that Vasquez-Santamaria crossed illegally into Texas in May, and was released into the U.S. with a court date in 2025.

Sources said that the migrant was processed by Border Patrol after promising, in writing, to appear in court for upcoming proceedings. After signing the notice to appear on own recognizance (NTA/OR), Vasquez-Santamaria was transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE).

ICE allegedly released him to a non-government agency (NGO) in Eagle Pass.

Law enforcement has not released any information on the victim and whether he is a U.S. citizen.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital request for comment.

Bo nix was the dominant one man show for Oregon as he was the leading rusher 46 yds and threw for 44 times for 359 yds. TT stuffed the run. Leading rb 38 yds.

I don’t think wvu has the fire power to hang with TT. Our only hope is to run the ball and control clock. They stuffed our run game last year and we couldn't throw.

(Sept. 19, 2023) – After earning its highest ranking in program history earlier in the day, the No. 2 West Virginia men’s soccer team picked up a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Dayton on Tuesday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Mountaineers improve to 6-0-1 while the Flyers fall to 2-5-1.



The lone goal of the game from redshirt senior Sergio Ors Navarro off an assist from senior Thomas Decottignies. Senior Jackson Lee earned his fifth shutout of the season while making four saves.



Dayton came into the game fourth in the nation in shots per game and played that same aggressive style, outshooting WVU, 17-10, while shots on goal were even at four. Corner kicks were also even at six apiece.



The Mountaineers took the lead in the 18th minute when Decottignies dribbled through a couple of defenders to get into the box before finding Ors Navarro, who slotted the ball past a stunned keeper into the corner of the net.



In the second half, the Flyers controlled most of the possession and had their chances, but the Mountaineer defense stood tall with Lee making a couple of saves when called upon.



West Virginia nearly found a second goal in the 75th minute when junior Frederik Jorgensen’s shot was saved before settling in front of the goal. Sophomore Marcus Caldeira, who came into the game having scored in all six contests this season, raced toward the ball to knock it into the open net, but the Dayton defender got a foot on it, forcing the ball over the net.



The Mountaineers will remain home for a Sun Belt matchup with Georgia Southern on Friday. It will be the annual white out game with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
