@Vernon maybe there has been enough distance now that you could address this but what led to the hiring of Shane Lyons?
This seems like another case of us hiring someone just because they are from West Virginia.
Fundraising was not a strength
Relationship building was not a strength
Communication was weak and poorly handled at times.
MAC was almost run into the ground.
Couldn’t/Wouldn’t evolve with NIL
Extended Dana
Hired Neal
Extended Neal with a .500 record
Led a bunch of national committees that lacked any vision for college athletics and put the sport into a condition where coaches like Saban are walking away
And I was under the impression that his “strength” was finance and operations but he put us in position where our program has been hogtied for 2-3 years because he signed a contract that we can’t afford to get out off. That is not good management.
And all our “connected” AD had to do is pick up the phone and call the USC AD and ask, “Are you trying to poach our coach?” And he could have avoided it all.
You can go back and write a list of all of our ADs for the past 50 years and write a heck of a list of their accomplishments. But I am really struggling with what positive Lyons contributed to this Athletic Department.
