Questions

@Vernon and anybody else……

Will every scholarship football player be compensated through revenue sharing?

For NIL, will we mostly do annual “contracts” for NIL? If it is an annual one and we spend all $7M we project this year, that would mean we’d have to spend $14M next year to keep the same players and add new?

There is so much that goes into this! It seems it would be better money spent to hit the portal and pay for players with one year remaining if you can find them. Otherwise, if we are paying year over year for multiple year players you either have to increase the total NIL each season or lose players.

Any ideas on how we are approaching this?

Vernon or Keenan in Regard to The Transfer Portal

Not sure if it is possible or not but could we get a list of Transfer Portal Targets that WVU has offered or has shown interest in. I think one of the biggest problem the wait and see faction of the fan base is having is what we are seeing is only G5 Talent being looked at. I'll use Pribula from PSU as an example if the fans knew that RR offered or was in on him that would at lease calm them of their worries that RR/WVU are going on the cheap for talent. I as many other fans know that we aren't rich enough or the reputation of blue bloods to take all P4 athletes but not knowing who the staff is looking at makes. the difference on how they are seeing recruiting this cycle. Like you said we aren't going to win many bidding wars with the SEC or Big 10, but it would at least be good to know we are trying for that talent

How many of the guys that have gone into the portal were going to go to chase the money regardless of Neal Brown staying or going? I feel like about half were gone no matter what, and I’m talking the half we didn’t want to lose.

AI's approach to the Portal for WVU.

I thought I would see what AI thought of the situation for WVU and the portal. I set parameters for $5 million and needs for 15 players.

With $5M for 15 players, that's an average of $333,333 per player, but we'd want to allocate this strategically rather than evenly. Here's how I'd approach it:
  1. Quarterback Priority: Allocate ~$800,000-1M for a high-impact QB from the portal. A strong QB is essential in modern college football and typically commands the highest NIL values.
  2. Premium Positions (~$400-500k each, ~$1.5M total for 3-4 players):
  • Elite Edge Rusher
  • Left Tackle
  • Top Wide Receiver
  • Cornerback
  1. Core Starters (~$250-300k each, ~$1.5M total for 5-6 players):
  • Interior Offensive Linemen
  • Linebackers
  • Safety
  • Running Back
  • Defensive Tackle
  1. Depth/Development Players (~$150-200k each, remaining budget for 4-5 players):
  • Backup skill positions
  • Rotational defensive players
  • Special teams contributors

Strategic considerations:
  • Focus on immediate impact positions first (QB, Edge, OT)
  • Consider position groups where WVU has the greatest needs
  • Factor in the Big 12 conference style of play (high-scoring, pass-heavy)
  • Reserve some budget (~10%) for potential adjustments or unexpected opportunities
  • Consider multi-year commitments for key positions to build stability
