A text that I have sent multiple times to many group texts now….

There was no point in the game where Campbell did not have control of the tempo, the game, the balance of power, or the edge in poise.

There were some questionable calls, but again, I watch the game and just shake my head 🤦‍♂️...

And whisper...

"We just aren't good enough ..."

I can understand the frustration............BUT

Like everyone here I had high hopes for this year and I'm disappointed too, but let's look at some facts that most are ignoring.

According to the latest polls our three losses have been to #3 and 6-0 Penn State, #20 and 6-0 Pitt, and #9 (or #12) 6-0 Iowa State. Sagarin ranks our strength of schedule to date as 8th toughest in all of college football.

I'm not ready to throw the towel in just yet on this season. Like him or not Neal is our coach until we can afford his buyout, and we should hope that he is successful the rest of the year.

Why was the game plan to pass the ball on Saturday???

I get it you can’t run the ball 65 times like we did against OSU, but to go from 53 carries for running backs one week to 21 carries from rbs the next is mind boggling. Especially considering ISU’s strength was pass defense & their weakness was rush defense.

Brown cannot stick with anything that’s successful because he over analyzes everything. That’s his biggest issue. Unless we’re down big we should never be passing the ball 30+ times. I just don’t get it.

Man, that was a great game

It had all of the classic Neal Brown elements all wrapped up for you in the typical letdown. How about that Mountaineer Field night game magic? Some streak we have going against ranked teams under him. It’s like Nehlen bowl game level of awesome.

I’m the anti-fan until he’s fired. I so looked forward to logging on last night to read everyone lamenting getting their guts ripped out as he predictably shit down the back of his legs. Good stuff. We get a whole week discussing the logical outcome and nothing happening before we get throttled again by another mediocre team.

The best comments of my perusing the board were people in the know telegraphing his return because of that stupid fvcking extension we gave him thinking this year he’d turn it around. Vernon basically saying we can’t afford to fire him this year and his return is inevitable.

Enjoy the week fellas! It’s a great time to be a Mountaineer, wherever you may be!

WVSPORTS.COM West Virginia head coach Neal Brown press conference summary

--West Virginia head coach Neal Brown said the game came down to turnovers and penalties. It was disappointing and the table was set and in the second half they didn't win it. The guys fought and competed but they made a couple more plays than West Virginia did. In the second half, West Virginia played the run well. The Mountaineers had the ball on the fringe and they weren't able to convert the missed field goal and mistakes. Offensively they were hit or miss but they have a good defense but the Mountaineers struggled getting into a rhythm.

--Rodney Gallagher's catch the ball moved but he wants to see the view where they had beyond a doubt where he didn't have possession. That was big it was 7-0 and they would have had the ball at the 10-yard line, but they went out and missed the field goal after that.

--Brown said they kept trying to run the ball but they were able to fix things. The Mountaineers were close on some other ones but they ran the ball for 148 yards and the pass/run gets a little bit lopsided.

--The second interception was a bad decision and the first one he went to the first read and he got two hand pushed right in the back.

--West Virginia had a lot of snap issues in this game and three of them resulted in negative plays but there was 8-10 in the game. Yates had an hand issue, but they were considering changing centers but they didn't. Yates has been playing well but he's been the starting center and is the best option.

--One the long touchdown half of them got one call and half of them got the other on the 60-yard touchdown.

--The fourth down conversions where they hit the speed option was a big play.

--In the second half Brown felt that the defense competed.

--Brown felt that the defensive holding call the ball wasn't close and it was a give up throw. Coming into the game they were the least penalized team in the country and were penalized seven times and Iowa State was just once. Brown said they lost the game.

--Nicco Marchiol is going to be a really good player here but Garrett Greene is the starter. They didn't consider putting him in for a spark. He doesn't have a quick hook with quarterbacks and doesn't believe in that.

--Defensively they really hung in there and competed but they need to get off the field. It felt like they had a lot of short yardage and they have to do a better job understanding the down and distance.

--West Virginia had very few explosive plays but they're a good defense. They moved it well, but they didn't score points. They had three drives inside the 30 yard line that they scored just three points.
