Coming into the 2016 season, WVU ranks 3rd among Big 12 schools in all-time winning percentages in football. Only Oklahoma and Texas did better.

That's something to be proud of, because it covers, in WVU's case, 125 years of being above the pack -- 28th nationally.

Houston, besides beating Oklahoma, also has a long-time winning percentage that would rank 5th in the Big 12. I think Houston probably is at the front of the line if the Big 12 adds members.

5. Oklahoma 72%

7. Texas 71%

28. West Virginia 59.8%

53. Texas Tech 56%

67. Houston 54.1%

68. TCU 54%

81. Baylor 51.3%

83. Oklahoma State 51.1%

99. Kansas 48.8%

108. Iowa State 45.1%

110. Kansas State 44.9%

While we're at it, let's compare WVU coaches' winning percentages.

Dana is 47.9% coming into this season compared to WVU's 125-year winning percentage of 59.8%.

Of the last ELEVEN WVU coaches, only Cignetti has a worse winning percentage than Dana.

Again, I was impressed with Dana's job against Missouri, and I know the Big 12 is tougher than the Big East or all the other schedules Dana's predecessors played. And Dana went 10-3, but against the Big East that is slammed here repeatedly when coaching comparisons are made.

But these are the facts. Slant them all you want, not one W or L will change.

Holgorsen 35-28 47.9%

Stewart 28-12 70%

Rodriguez 60-26 69.8%

Nehlen 149-93-4 63.1%

Cignetti 17-27 38.6%

Bowden 42-26 61.8%

Carlen 25-13-3 65.8%

Corum 29-30-2 49.2%

Lewis 58-38-2 60.4%

DeGroot 13-9-1 59.1%

Kern 24-23-1 51.1%

All-time (125 years) 59.8%

Quoted to highlight the simple math inaccuracies on not one but TWO WVU websites that you couldn't help but post your idiocy on.....

You're going full-Furfari

Actually DH is 37-28 counting the bowl game and Saturday; 55.5%

Still 3rd in the 21st century, so no biggie.

Is this thread some kind of magnate for the numerically challenged?

37-28 = 56.9%.......or 57%

At the end of the day, Dana has averaged just over 7 wins a season at WVU, which is the exact same as our program's average over the last 50+ seasons........ He's on his way to 8+ again this year, but regardless............. the old guard will not stop at their attempts to tear him down and pretend that WVU was some prestigious program while also claiming long-time fanhood

Dana doesn't and hasn't gotten the benefit of playing schedules void of top 25 opponents during his tenure like Stewart did, and hasn't coached in a Charmin-soft league like Rod did either.............

OP loves to boast about his many decades as "a paid sports expert" ........... well, this thread proves one thing for sure........... you aren't anymore

and to be honest, I'd assume this is a great indicator that you never were that good anyways............... that attention to actual factual accuracy doesn't seem to be a priority.

Last 100 seasons of WVU football (1916-2015)

617 wins......... someone take a guess as to what that adds up to as far as our average wins/season.

Last 50 seasons of WVU football (1966-2015)

366 wins.............. 7.3 wins a season

Last 25 seasons of WVU football (1991-2015)

192 wins............... 7.6 wins a season

Right now - Dana Holgorsen is 36-28 (2011-2015) ....... 7.2 wins/season and growing during 2016

I apologize profusely. I got my numbers tangled up when I hit the calculator button.
The 55.5% puts Dana 8th among the last 11 WVU coaches. Not as bad as I made it out to be, but not exactly Nick Saban territory either.
And, if we're going to dismiss Rich's record against Big East teams, it's only fair to mention that Dana was 10-3 against Big East teams, too, puffing up his percentage but still putting him below Rodriguez, Stewart, Nehlen, Bowden, Carlen, Lewis and DeGroot.
In other words, 8th among the last 11 coaches, unless I screwed up my math again.
Again, I apologize for putting the numbers into the calculator in the wrong way.
Again again, I WANT Dana to do well. Hell, if he beats Doc Spears' 1922 performance I'll be dancing naked in the streets.
I just let the facts speak for themselves. All I have to do is get them right.
I don't have agendas. Only remorse when I get the facts wrong. That was a no-no for me in my career for 43 years.

By the way, thanks for correcting me. It's important to get it right.

Now, let's yank Youngstown around and then bash BYU!
