#9 Kansas’ 88-80 victory over #5 Texas tonight was another reminder of how dominant the Big 12 is over the other Power 5 conferences.
ALL TEN Big 12 teams are in the top 70 of the NET rankings which is, as the announcers said, “unheard of.” Because playing Big 12 conference games is tougher than March Madness, in some ways!
Texas made some really difficult, closely guarded shots to stay in the game.
But Kansas is the best passing team in the Big 12, and maybe the nation, and often makes 4 to 6 passes AFTER it crosses the 10-second half line before taking a shot.
Super Jayhawk passing resulted in a ton of layups and dunks.
Both Kansas and Texas look like they have a good shot at reaching the Elite Eight in March Madness.
That means #5 Texas and #11 Iowa State are the only Big 12 teams with 3 losses (for a FIRST PLACE team) but 4 other teams have only 4 losses -- #9 Kansas, #12 Kansas State, #14 Baylor and #17 TCU.
SIX TEAMS separated by ONE loss. And Oklahoma State, in the bottom 4, has crawled up to only 2 losses behind the 1st place team!
NO Big 12 team has a losing season record this late in the season because the Big 12 had by far the best non-conference winning percentage in the country! It will be the Big 12 against the rest of the field in March Madness.
Since SIX Big 12 teams are ranked in the Top 25 it’s not too much of a stretch to think that the Big 12 could have more teams in the Elite Eight than THE REST OF THE COUNTRY!
Besides the 6 ranked teams, Oklahoma State and West Virginia (both 14-9) have a good shot at being in the March Madness field which would give the Big 12 EIGHT teams. And, by rule, conference teams cannot be opponents in the first round and, if 1 of the 8 are in the each of the 8 quads it could, indeed, be the Big 12 against the nation!
The Big 12 tournament may be the most awesome conference dogfight in the country this season!
And some WVU fans act like the Mountaineers are a terrible team because they are in 8th place at 3-7, ignoring that in non-conference games WVU is 11-2, including a W over Top 25 Auburn with THE SEVENTH TOUGHEST SCHEDULE IN AMERICA! When you're trying to dribble through an elephant herd it's tough to survive!
