WVU Release WVU Women's Basketball - West Virginia Closes Out Homestand Against UCF

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Jan. 29, 2024) – The West Virginia University women’s basketball team continues its homestand when they welcome UCF to Morgantown on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Tipoff inside the WVU Coliseum is set for 7 p.m. ET.



The competition will serve as the annual "I Belong" game to celebrate diversity and inclusion. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive an "I Belong" t-shirt. It's also Faculty/Staff Appreciation night and all WVU employees will be granted free admission with a valid employee ID.



The matchup with UCF will be broadcast live on the Mountaineer Sports Network, including 100.9 WSZT-FM, with Andrew Caridi on the call. Additionally, Tuesday’s game will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with Eric Little and Meg Bulger on the call. Live stats and game notes will be available on WVUsports.com.



Tickets for the contest can be purchased at WVUGAME.com or by visiting the Mountaineer Ticket Office, located inside the Gold Gate of the WVU Coliseum.



West Virginia and Central Florida meet for the second time this season to wrap up the season series. The Mountaineers claimed the first meeting in Orlando, 76-59, on Jan. 13. The Knights have never played inside the WVU Coliseum as the Mountaineers are a perfect 2-0 all-time in the series.



UCF comes into the contest after collecting its first Big 12 win of the season, 92-87, over Houston on Saturday. The Knights sit at 10-8 overall and 1-7 in the conference.



The Knights roster features two players who are averaging double-digit scoring this season in Kaitlyn Peterson (21.5) and Mya Burns (10.2). The pair each average 4.4 rebounds per game while Peterson’s points per game lead all players in the Big 12.



Last time out, West Virginia picked up its fourth straight win in conference play, defeating Iowa State, 84-78, on Saturday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers were led in scoring by junior guard JJ Quinerly, who tallied her 18th double-digit scoring game of the season with a career-high 31 points.



Quinerly (19.2), sophomore guard Jordan Harrison (14.2) and fifth-year guard Lauren Fields (10.5) pace WVU's offensive effort this season. Quinerly is the fourth-leading scorer in the conference.



The Mountaineers have the top four steal leaders in the Big 12 with Quinerly (3.4), Harrison (2.7), Fields (2.4) and junior Kyah Watson (2.2). Harrison has racked up 108 assists this season and is averaging 5.7 per contest which is the second-best in the conference. Watson paces WVU in rebounding, with 5.7 boards per game.



West Virginia averages 14.9 steals per contest and adds a 9.53 turnover margin which are the best marks in the nation. Additionally, WVU forces 24.9 turnovers per game, the second most in the country.



Former West Virginia head coach Mike Carey, now Central Florida assistant coach, returns to the WVU Coliseum for the first time since departing the program following the 2021-22 season. He is set to be recognized for his contributions to the program before tipoff of Tuesday's game.
