In wondering where/how WVU lands – the question is about our worth to a conference. Zach Miller did an interesting thing where he tried to calculate each school’s worth – by averaging together 5 things:

1 attendance, 2 market size/share, 3 valuation, 4 social media following, 5 TV viewership.

Averaging those stats, WVU ranked #29. Our peers (27 to 32) were Washington, Va Tech, Miss St, Okla St.

The current number of B1G & SEC teams are 32… so we know we are actually more valuable than teams who ‘have a seat at the big table.’

Below us are (in SEC) 30 Miss St, 32 Kentucky, 39 Missouri, 70 Vandy -- and (in B1G) 34 Minn, 46 Indiana, 51 Purdue, 53 Northwestern, 54 Illinois, 58 Rutgers.

Miller’s article ranked the top 10 university teams with the most value who are currently outside the SEC and B1G:
1 Notre Dame, 2 Clemson, 3, Fl St, 4, Oregon, 5 Miami, 6 Wash, 7 Va Tech, 8 WVU, 9 Ok St, 10 Texas Tech.

We are 8th most valuable remaining team. Not sure how this all shakes out – but on paper the 29th most valuable team should have a seat at the table.

But if all the B1G and SEC bottom-dwellers are kept by their conferences, we are probably going to be in the new “Division 1-AA” – unless the SEC and B1G expand to 22 or 24 teams each. Honestly, not sure I want to be in the arms race with B1G and SEC schools where it will take million-dollar NIL deals to get players to WVU.

The article that statistically calculates each of the universities’ worth.

Forgot the most important thing

Recruiting

Rest of the things are not singular meaning TV ratings and attendance is based on both schools. Recruiting isn't.

That is based upon WVU still being in a spot to compete for a real title. If WVU is relegated to a "must go undefeated and pray for a committee gift spot in the playoff just to get trucked by an Alabama type" situation you will see fan and recruit interest go down. Make no mistake. The consolidation of money/power into the B1G and SEC sees destroying other teams' value as equivalent to adding value to themselves.
