MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Feb. 29, 2024) For the third straight weekend to begin the season, the West Virginia University baseball team hits the road, this time traveling to Western Kentucky to take on the Hilltoppers for a four-game series.



First pitch on Friday is set for 4 p.m. ET while Saturday will be a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. ET. The series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. The games will not have a live video stream but can be heard on the radio at TheVarsityNetwork.com.

LHP Tyler Switalski vs. LHP Jacob Bimbi

RHP Carson Estridge vs. RHP Dawson Hall



The Mountaineers are coming off a 10-3 win over Canisius in their home opener on Wednesday. Sophomore Ellis Garcia had two hits and two RBI for the Mountaineers. Senior Reed Chumley also knocked in a pair of runs while sophomore Logan Sauve walked twice and scored three runs.



On the mound, sophomore Gavin Van Kempen got the start and struck out four while allowing two runs. Sophomore Maxx Yehl had a strikeout in a scoreless inning to earn the win while freshmen Chase Meyer and Aidan Smith each had two strikeouts in their collegiate debuts.



The Mountaineers and Hilltoppers have met once before with WVU sweeping Western Kentucky in 2018.



Led by Head Coach Marc Rardin, Western Kentucky is 6-3 in 2024. The Hilltoppers have won series against Bradley and Purdue Fort Wayne while also defeating ASUN favorite Lipscomb in a midweek contest.



WKU was picked fifth in the C-USA Preseason Poll. Pitchers Lane Diuguid, Dawson Hall, and Mason Burns all earned spots on the C-USA All-Preseason Team.



Blake Cavill leads the team with a .500 batting average, two home runs, six doubles, and 13 RBI. Hall has yet to give up a run in 12.0 innings this season on the mound with 10 strikeouts.
