WVU Release WVU Baseball - Mountaineers Welcome Kansas State for Final Home Series

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 9, 2024) The West Virginia University baseball team returns this weekend for the final Big 12 home games of the season as Kansas State visits Kendrick Family Ballpark. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m., Saturday for 4 p.m., and Sunday for 1 p.m.



All three games will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Mountaineers Sports Network on all radio affiliates as well as the Varsity Network, WVU Gameday App, and WVUSports.com.



Saturday will be Senior Day as the Mountaineers will honor Reed Chumley, Derek Clark, Hayden Cooper, and Hambleton Oliver. Sunday will be a celebration of Coach Randy Mazey’s career with festivities planned pregame, during the game, and postgame.



With large crowds expected for the series with this weekend, additional free parking will be available at the Wal-Mart in University Town Centre. Fans may utilize the parking spots on the exterior of the lot, which are striped with white paint. Interior parking spots striped with yellow paint are for Wal-Mart customer parking only.



West Virginia enters the weekend with a 29-18 overall record after defeating Penn State, 18-7, on Wednesday. In the Big 12, the Mountaineers sit in second place at 15-9 alongside Oklahoma State and Texas, all of whom are three games behind Oklahoma with six games remaining.



Junior JJ Wetherholt leads WVU with a .368 batting average while Chumley has a team-high 13 home runs and 38 RBI. Junior Brodie Kresser is coming off a four-hit game against the Nittany Lions and currently leads the team with 11 stolen bases.



Clark leads qualified Mountaineer pitchers with a 3.48 ERA while striking out 57 in 64.1 innings pitched. Freshman Joseph Fredericks has a 1.50 ERA in 14 appearances out of the bullpen while Oliver and sophomores Gavin Van Kempen, Carson Estridge, and Maxx Yehl all have ERAs under four.



Led by Head Coach Pete Hughes in his 6th season, Kansas State is 28-19 in 2024. In the Big 12, the Wildcats sit in seventh place at 12-12.



Brady Day leads the team with a .343 batting average and 43 RBI while Chuck Ingram has a team-high nine home runs.



On the mound, Jackson Wentworth has a 3.83 ERA and 82 strikeouts in just 56.1 innings. He has six saves on the year but will get a start this weekend.
