We know next year is about finding the right head coach.

WV has a good coach. How can a man making $60,000 a week not be good at his game? I support Holgs and WVU sports in general but I do realize where the game is being played. I will give you a hint. It's somewhere off the field.

this may well be the most stupid thread in the history of this board if for no other reason than so many KNOW WHATS GOING ON BEHIND THE SCENES. I reckon some folks here are the true high rollers who determine the direction of WVU sports. Whod have thunk it. right here on the free board the deep pockets congregate. And I come here to just to see a little surface thought. Boy am I stupid not knowing the real inside scoop is right here.

I'm going to give everyone a quick piece of advice. the same folks pretending to know whats going on with Dana and Shane and ANY booster who has real weight are the same numbnuts who KNEW THE SEC WAS READY TO OFFER WVU 7 OR 8 YEARS AGO. I CAN about guarantee you the people in WV and elsewhere who might help make decisions at WVU are not on this board trying to tell you what they know. They just aint.

So save yourselves some aggravation and ignore the trolls who try and tell you how important they are at WVU. Its bullshit. And honestly, hatred of Dana or anyone else associated with our football team, is the worst way of going about determining our future. Dana may stay. Dana may go. But nobody here knows which or even knows somebody that might know. But if youre looking for mindless entertainment and rasslin ain't on channel 4, this aint a bad choice.

Pbody is wise beyond his yEERS. I am giving Pbody a seat at the head of the class and I allow Mr. Pbody to pass Go and collect $200. He gets it.

During the Bill Stewart emergency 3 AM alcohol infused coaching hire we had 4 guys on the short list; Jimbo Fisher, Butch Jones, Rick Trickett and Terry Bowden. Jimbo was the guy we wanted but his 2 million dollar buyout to cut his HIC contract seemed a steep price to pay, especially since Rich was renegging on his nearly 4 million buyout he owed WVU at the same time. Odd, 2 million dollars is a deal these days - oh what could have been.

Terry Bowden thought he had the job in the bag and we were getting him for peanuts. Butch Jones was still something of an untested product and I don't think Trickett ever got much traction.

When the process started to hire Dana, it was an odd arrangement that involved coming in the door as the OC and marking time for Bill Stewart to exit the program. Not many coaches worth their salary are going to want to sign onto that setup and while a few names were on the short list as alternatives, Luck really had focused on Dana from the very start of the process. This was very much how WVU was targeting Jimbo Fisher even though other names came and went in the process, even Saban's.

WVU does not do much of a coaching search, they pick a target based often on things that have more to do with economics than they do results on the field or finding someone that will walk into a quagmire before he gets the job. Both hires were botched and by different people yet both took place at WVU. I see no reason the next hire wont be handled as badly and the next coach is probably no better than what we have or have had as a result.

I am hoping Lyons knows his job better than his predecessors. Luck was king in many areas but his greatest test was to hire a superb coach and he let emotions over how to handled Bill get in the way and that limited him to hiring an OC and then promoting through all of the off field drama. Blind squirrels could find a nut faster than all of that.

Of those guys we occasionally hear about Terry Bowden has done ok at his current position but he is not a box of fireworks. He is out of the running. Butch Jones is an excuse machine at Tennessee, we have had enough of excuses and we don't need him. The SS Jimbo Fisher has sailed never to be seen again; he is out. Rick Trickett was never in the serious mix. He is not a contender. Doc Holiday, is a Bill Stewart 2, no thank you.

We can't really be tabbing names for a short list just yet. In February 2016 that process can and probably will begin.

I drove past a cattle feedlot last week, but there is more BS in your post than on that feedlot.

You pat yourself on the back and pump your own self image so hard that you are forced to smile at your own wit. Having an opinion does that to one's self, but never forget, that is all it is, one man's opinion. Your problem is the same problem a great deal of those 50 and older have, you simply fail to understand the social communications of the world in which we live and how those facets change the way people communicate. Like Don and Bill, your way of thinking is outdated. It is great to have an opinion and to express it but only a foolish man bashes others for their yours while claiming their own is gospel. Your post made you look very foolish.

That is one way to look at it but committee negotiations are much more complex than that. Many variables played into Dana being retained another year such as the plethora of coaching changes this season or the inherent desire to make a good decision our 3rd time at the selection box since Rich left. Donors and the AD are always at odds on various issues, but they work them out. Seldom do you get the donor that takes his marbles and goes home and that is not happening right now, so the assertion by you that there is some sort of internal strife between is fabrication.

Dana has a year to plan his post-WVU future. There is nothing he can do to retain his job now except winning the Big-12 next season.

So a 10-2 season with a Jan. 1 bowl doesn't get him an extension?? I agree with everything you have said in this and previous posts...but if he wins 9+ regular season games WVU looks stupid firing Holgerson. My opinion Dana needs to win 8 in the regular season and show the fan base he has a qb for the next 3 years.

In the eyes of WVU 10-2 and a bowl win would be a gleeful outcome and as good businessmen they would extend his contract. But, it is not all in the hands of the AD any longer. For Dana to get an extension or even keep his current contract valid, he has to win back the fans that think he has no upside.

A good year in their eyes is a blip, because Dana has done so many other things wrong. Hired and retained bad assistants, had off-field shenanigans that put WVU reputation in the press in a negative way, obviously is lost in determining talent and just as lost in developing that talent and has a cavalier manner in regards to WVU in his presentation and concern over the outcomes of games. Those things will not change if WVU has a successful season as you postulated.
